They are supposed to check your usage/cost, but have just increased my DD from £87 to £152 ?? apparently ive got too far behind. Yes I know they & all the others have increased prices, but surely they should have intervened earlier. (Yes I do know you have to pay it in the end)

Sorry to say your at fault. Check your bills online every month simple as that. If you had kept on top of your bills you would have spotted it sooner and been able to amend your direct debit a lot sooner. The £152 will be some of the cash you owe and some for your new charges it will catch you up eventually.

Hello roddydogs: my dd with Co-op has been £37 now for dual-fuel since I started with them a couple of years back. They've never increased the dd (hope this doesn't jinx this) even though I've owed just under £500 at one stage (I popped in my Winter Fuel Allowance to help reduce it).

It's unacceptable, though, for them to just increase your dd without warning, definitely.

If it's too much, give them a call and ask if they could reduce the dd a bit.

    How much do you owe?

If you input your monthly meter readings online you get points; I have just received £11.84 as part of my Co-op partnership points (Jan-Dec 2012). I also input the meter readings onto my own Excel spreadsheet and graph which checks my usage/ statements over the years.

Your first part contradicts your second part. They checked your usage and thus have adjusted the debit. They explicitly state they carry out this every six months. It will be checked again in six months.

Debit instalments can easily increase by one hundred percent or more. It is up to you to monitor your usage more frequently and plan how to react if you notice a discrepancy.

Exactly I fully agree with you. People have to take responsibility for there own bills. Its not the providers fault this was not done if the money is owed pay it simple as that really energy used has to be paid for.

Don't forget that when a payment is adjusted the difference can easily by three times what the real increase is - you have to repay the underpayment, you have to pay that underpayment for ongoing usage, and this may also coincide with a price increase.
  • Look on the bright side - it's an interest free loan for those who can't be arrissed to check their own usage and tell their supplier.
  • does anyone know if co op do pre payment if they do you could always ask them to put what you owe on to a pre payment meter if the direct debit amount would be a struggle

Yes they offer prepayment meters - with double the standing charges of credit meters (more than £300:eek:)

I've been with co-op about 4 months and have been giving them meter readings, but my online co-op account is not yet showing any points.

Can someone tell me when the points credited? Is it every month or with each bill, or yearly? I asked co-op by email but they failed to answer the question tell me points are shown on the next bill.
