Right as the title..... says my sons school sports day is on Wednesday:) Ive heard via the grapevine... another teacher at the school..... that they will be selling beers at the sports day AGAIN this year...... I'm assuming that this is the leftover stock from the the summer fete they had not to long ago......... now my issue is not the selling of the beers as such altho I'm itching to find out whether they have a liquor licence for the day? anyway long story short the reason I had an issue with the selling of beers last year is that they(the school) did not provide any refreshments, drinks, lollies or anything for the kids, as I can remember it was one of the hottest days of the year too and the poor kids were sweltering in the heat:mad: all the while the head and deputy head were sat under a gazebo selling beers:eek: Personally thought that this was disgusting.
I obviously provided my LO with cold drinks etc but it really made my blood boil that they could sit there selling ALCOHOL of all things and not even a thought for the Kids ........ so I'm just really interested to know what your reaction would be I honestly dont think I'm over reacting but offcourse that is just my opinion!

I wouldn't like my children's schools to have alcohol for sale at any time. As to whether they have a licence, you can ring your local council and ask. You don't have to leave your name, just say you would prefer to remain anonymous as your children are pupils at the school. If they want to ring you back after checking, you can always arrange to ring them the following day.0

I don't think a school event is the time/place for alcohol.0

At the school where I work and at the one where my sons attend they don't provide refreshments for the children on sports day. A polite reminder is sent home a few days in advance to parents advising them to provide water bottles (which can be refilled from water fountains at school), sun hats and sun screen. So as to prevent children getting dehydrated or suffering negative effects from the sun. I think this is pretty much standard practice to be honest.
As for the selling of alcohol at such an event, I don't think it is wholly appropriate to be honest. I would hope the Head has looked into the implications of doing this and made a considered decision before going ahead. Few would choose to do anything illegal or that could give the school they run a bad reputation. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -

I certainly agree with the latter part marisco as regards providing refreshments this particular school have done so in the past so it was a bit of a surprise that they did not do this last year!LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT0 -
If I were a student at that school and my parents were drinking beer at sports day I would be mortified.0
