Hi KolaKube, just read through your diary and wanted to wish you lots of luck for your move and your op plans.

Thanks Smlsave!
Well if I ever needed inspiration to be a mfw its logging into my internet bank this morning to check my accounts and stuck on the bottom is the mortgage!
- £101160.59 is the start balance....
Can OP by 10% annually without charge.
I'm already tempted to send over the £60.59 to tidy it up lol but we'll wait and see what happens with that first big mortgage payment...! No idea when that'll be?
Nationwide mortgage people - how do you make you overpayments? Do you just transfer them online? Do you need to ring them to warn them first / tell them to reduce the term rather than the repayments?
Excited!!!
I overpay them over the counter and we did warm them first and the man on phone made sure we were decreasing term of mortgage by over paying and not amounts each month if that makes sense. XXX0 -
Thanks for the info and good wishes guys
Well, we are in possession of the keys! Got over for a snoop around there but the wee man got grouchy for his nap so we had to bring him back home.
The house in some respects isn't as bad as I thought work wise, but there is definitely a LOT that needs doing to bring it up to our standard... baby steps. Feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. Mum is coming to sit with LO later so we can get back over for a bit.
Does anyone else have a house that's a work in progress? How did you prioritise?
I'm actually thinking of starting with the outside, seeing as winter is coming...? Garage windows and side door need stripped and re-painted, garage itself could do with a good clean out, there's a huge garden which the vendor has let get overgrown, fencing all needs weatherproofing, yard needs power hosing down etc
WYOO removing a grave stone (for a long deceased family pet) from the back garden...?
Glass of wine to steady the nerves tonight methinks :rotfl:MFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

I OP online, just set up an online payment, you would be best to check with them what sort code and A/c no to use, then you just use your mortgage a/c no as a reference. So far any OP I have made has not reduced the repayment, from memory it will only reduce your payment if its over a certain amount (£500 rings a bell),
hope this helps

exciting stuff. We recently remortgaged for similar amount. I pay the money into my flex account then into the mortgage - shows up the next day. There is a bit online to tell them if you want to reduce term or payments.
We had kept some money back to do some essential work - mainly radiators - were lucky and didn't need new boiler so that cash went on redecorating. To be honest the garden will be my last job - nothing much will grow now over winter, so we just gave it a quick tidy and will leave it till next year now. There is so much little jobs that we have had to do and it was these that took up most of our time and budget. Good luck.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

Who knew moving could be such a faff with a 7 month old baby lol... :rotfl:
Need to wait in over there today so they can deliver my freezer and tumble dryer (Shhh not very MSE) so I'm going to get on with giving LOs room a freshen up with new paint if I can (carpet, curtains etc there are fine and it has built in furniture which will do fine for now until we can afford to replace them)... unfortunately LO, who was teething at the start of the week now has a tummy bug - timing!

Thanks Gemdoll
Well we didn't get very far today in the end. Appliances delivered and waiting for OH to set them up later. LO has been very clingy and I'm knackered so I did a little cleaning up but otherwise we've come back to the flat for today... will box a few things up later.
Called the rates company (NI version of council tax) and got that organised at least lol
I found the bit on internet bank about overpayments (thanks guys for the advice) and note they have to be over £500 to make a difference to the term... I had sent over a test tenner this morning just to see what happened but will aim to OP in blocks of £500 from now on.

I have set up a monthly standing order to the mortgage account, and it just adds to my normal monthly payment. I asked in branch how to overpay, and this was their suggestion.Mortgage Free November 2018

Good idea Staffordia - not sure it would work for us though as I imagine we won't be in a position to OP the same every month :eek:MFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years
