oh, and another one... in the mortgage calculator, do I put in the fixed interest rate for the fixed rate period, or the lower 'overall cost for comparison' interest rate (which I think takes into account it falling to SVR after the fixed rate period?)... help!MFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

Just a quick call in tonight - we are at a good friends wedding this weekend over in England. Making the most of the hotel hot baths etc as we fly home tomorrow and should get keys this week to our new house (yay!) which doesnt yet have a bath (boo! but probably yay from an mse perspective). Been a lovely weekend and the wedding was great fun
back to frugaldom from tomorrow though especially as we've really overspent...
Hope you are all well xxMFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

Hi KolaKube
Love your name! I have recently started my own MF diary but your story is similar to ours in that we committed to being MF free just a few months after our first child was born. I was 30 at the time and we managed to pay off our first mortgage by the time I turned 32 (we did this by cancelling endowment plans, compensation payment lumps sums, selling my DH's car) and stripping spend right back to the bare minimum to OP whilst on maternity leave and then when I returned to work). But a MF life at that time wasn't to be for us...we moved to a bigger home and are back on the MF train again.
I have found committing to being a MFW actually much easier with young children. Although we have suffered through the dreaded childcare costs and I have been part time on and off for the last 8 years, our outgoings on entertertainment, holidays and expensive treats have reduced dramatically.
Good luck with the house move and your plans to overpay.0 -
Hi helendavekids and newgirly
both names I recognise and thanks for the good wishes!
HappierMe, well done you on paying off your 1st mortgage, its nice to know it can be done! LO is 7 mths now and I agree, day to day 'fun' spends definitely go down eg cinema trips etc.... costing a fortune in baby equipment etc though! Plan to start ebaying a few bits next week hopefully if I get a chance. We're flying home today cant wait to see himGood luck with your new MFW journey I'll hvto get a wee nosy at your diary xx

It's freezing in NI today! Our heating is now officially on, earlier than I would have liked to but I went in to get LO this morning and he was ice cold to touch and shivering, I brought him into our bed for a warm up and his morning milk and he cuddled down for a nice warm sleep to himself under our 15tog duvet like he'd been up half the night shivering...
Currently hes in for a nap and I'm working out our meal plan / shopping list again - I had it all typed out on here last night and lost the page grr...
We're trying to use up what we have in the freezer (very little compared to normal but I'm sure we can stretch a week out of it!), so this week Mon-Fri we will be having:
Roast chicken legs, veg & potatoes
Lemon & herb salmon fillets, veg, potatoes and parsley sauce
HM Quiche & salad / HM chips
HM Falafel, pitta & salad
Vegeburgers, HM chips & beans
Other things to make: potato & spinach soup, HM bread, have a nosy through the baking things to see what can be rustled up, I have a glut of carrots so I might have a wee nosy at some carrot cake recipes...
Going to try and get most of what we need for the week (lunchbox stuff, yoghurts for LO, pittas, salad, bleach) for the change in my purse (around £6 or so) to save drawing any more money out as we really overspent this weekend... will report back! xxMFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

Got everything we needed for £5.60 including a bag of cooking apples from which I made a nice apple pie... did use a lot of the milk making custard and have discovered we're out of dishwasher tabs, but other than those we should be good until the end of the week.
Poor LO had to go out with a teeny tiny wooly hat on earlier, a 'thinking ahead' present from when he was born in feb but unfortunately he's a little on the big side (in his 12-18 month stuff at 7 months) the size was underestimated and the poor hat wouldn't come down over his ears lol... time to get the crochet hooks and wool out and hook him up a selection of hats for winter, does anyone else crochet / use ravelry much? I love it lol xxMFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

Hi KolaKube
I've noticed you have posted in my diary recently so thought I would pop in to yours, say hello and a thank you for supporting a Newbie!
To be planning to overpay before you even move into your house is brilliant, it took me around 7 years after I bought my first house to catch onto this mortgage free business. From the dates in your diary it looks like you will be in your new home this weekend so good luck with the house move.0 -
Hiya Happier Me! Thanks for the good wishes
Bad news today, completion put back to the 30th due to an issue with the house the vendor is buying (despite assuring us when we bid initially that they were moving in with family and no chain!). Anyway mustnt grumble as it wont achieve anything
Today we spent a lovely morning at a friends house and had coffees and lunch there. Then went to mothercare and exchanged a gift LO was bought for 2 sizes up as it was 9-12 and hes already in 12-18 and has plenty of it so I shall stash them for a few months time. We bought £6.40 worth of toiletries with boots points so that was good. Went to MILs for coffee and LO ate there for dinner... OH and I were sorely tempted by a takeaway but he was strong and we made the vegeburgers as plannedMIL had a gift that her friend left round for LO and it was not only a lovely outfit in 18-24, but bibs too and a lovely coat which is 6-9 mths but looks plenty big so we appreciated that. Did have to buy milk and dishwasher tabs but not a bad day spends wise
If only we were this focussed every day!MFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years
