Can you convince your OH to make double his healthy meals so you can enjoy them the next day? :) If he wants to cook, I'd let him as long as possible! :D

Good idea! Problem is he doesnt get home until 8pm then doesnt bother with the actual cooking part of the plan... last night he made a toasted sandwich in the end! xx

    Evening all!

I'm settling down for a browse and a bit of catch up TV after an evening painting the utility room roof (first coat, sigh, that means theres another coat to go...). I've decided painting a roof is the single most tedious DIY job going lol. Had my new light fitting put up today though, and its looking lovely - goodbye fluorescent strip light!

We spent the morning car booting and got some great bargains, including a brand new end panel needed for my utility worktop, in the style in which we are doing the doors... for a fiver :rotfl:

Lunch out then with the in laws was a lovely treat ;)

Anyway, not exactly a NSD but £2.24 tidied over to the mortgage.

OH and I had a chat about mortgage OPs in the car today, I explained how much interest each OP saves and he himself suggested we go at it full force when I'm back at work :T yay!

Edit: £226 sat in the oil / electric account so I've tidied the £6 over too lol
    xx

    £4.30 tidy up :)

OH and his Dad got on fitting my new worktop and end panel in the utility room today, and the roof is finished... starting to look lovely in there, I'm chuffed!

    Downton and wine time xx

It's so satisfying when the room comes together. :)

Got to say I have never watched Downton, but did watch Grease last night. Gosh, I do love that film.

Lol isnt it just bluemoo, but its a slow process getting the doors all done - once they are finished its a blind, a door curtain and some sort of wall art - et voila!

    Bit of a !!!!!! day here -

It turns out our attic conversion flat roof is leaking (directly into LOs bed, as we discovered at 6am!) - somebody coming to look at it tomorrow hopefully, in the meantime hes bunking with us.

OHs car still isnt back from the garage 3 weeks on - OH nearly had a heart attack earlier when he rang up to enquire and they said 'such and such a part is broken, it'll cost £1200 to fix'... luckily they were talking about the wrong car :rotfl:

LO cried so much at my spag bol he threw up and mine slipped off the plate onto the table lol. I'm officially ready for him to decide he likes tomato based stuff as I really dont want to get into cooking separate meals, but its been 3 months of trying and he doesnt seem to be budging on this one... :(

Hes learning to crawl (well, bum shuffle really) and proceeded to scoot forward quickly, fall and smack his head off the corner of the unit while we were both watching but he was too quick and we couldnt save him - cue a huge bruise and discussion about baby proofing. We have an absolutely ginormous awful 1970s fireplace and I suspect we haven't a hope of getting a guard big enough to surround it - its nearly the length of the room. Its probably going to have to get the chop sooner than anticipated as theres such a risk of LO falling onto it. Was planning to leave the sitting room until next year but I think it's gonna have to go this weekend  That, or we inhibit LO somehow from shuffling about, but I don't think that would be very fair as hes just learning.

Having a nice glass of wine and a calm down just now... I know it sounds this way but I'm not a daily drinker, honest! :A

Tomorrow is a new day :) fingers crossed it doesnt rain too heavily overnight! xx

  • blimey, your diary moves quick - glad you got the answer about overpayments from Nw. I overpaid more than 500 last month so got the letter saying our monthly repayment has gone down by 20 quid, but will just repay that every payday as not reducing our term again. It was satisfying seeing the date reduce, but if something goes wrong at least i can go back to small monthly payments if need be.

Sorry to hear about the bruise - i remember my son having a similar one and i had to keep him indoors until it healed cos i felt so guilty! Don't go too mad on babyproofing, in a years time it will not be needed.
    mortgage 1 33,000. paid nov 2012 :D. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

My FMiL using cushions all over the fireplace to stop any accident.

Let us know though how the living room goes. We recently got our floors done, and it has made such a difference!

Do you have a council run MOT centre/garage near you? They legally do not have an attached 'fixing garage', so don't have the incentive to find problems. Maybe they might be worth going to for a check up? You can even get them to quote you for parts so you can ensure you are not being ripped off.

Thanks bluemoo - we used to do that when we lived in England, but as far as I can see in NI all MOTs are done in big MOT testing centres - theres no facility to take it to one for a check up, you just get your car sorted in a garage and present it for MOT, if it fails it fails - annoying thing is, theres not even much wrong with OHs car! They fixed the part which was causing trouble, an exhaust valve. Its a central locking part they're now faffing about with - not something MOT failable but we're just having trouble getting the car back off them, fixed or not... I bet we get a huge bill. I know the exhaust part was nearly £200 alone.

Good idea with the cushions, but LO has already sussed protective cushions out and chucks them around the room, I cant see them staying put on the mega fireplace :(

    Our living room needs:
Huge fireplace removing, either a stove or an open fire putting back in its place
Skirting board radiators changed to two double radiators, which might be a bigger job than we think as the pipes need burying in the concrete floor
    New Flooring
plastering behind where the massive fireplace is
a new window pane as the large one has lost its seal (although we'd like a bay window fitting)
    New light fittings x3

... which is why we were planning to leave it until I'm back at work, I think we need to budget about £2k for the work.

Kirsty I think you have it right about doing the OPs that way, thats how we're planning to do it so we dont end up stuck with huge payments down the line if things go financially wrong - thanks for the tip, I would have been reducing away at the term in blissful ignorance :rotfl:

Waiting for a chap coming this morning to diagnose the flat roof... best case just the flashing needs fixing and we can plan to do the roof next spring, worst case it needs entirely replacing now, which would be an !!!! with the NI weather but on a positive note would allow insulation to be fitted above the conversion ceilings as its a bit chilly up there without :/

Its not a huge issue as we can just delay doing the bathroom if needed. Hey ho, that's life - we might not have a modern bathroom, but at least we have our little family, our health, food in our cupboards and a roof over our heads, however leaky in places :rotfl: xx
