This is my 1st post - even though I have been a lurker on these wonderful boards for ages now.
So, we're doing a big conversion on our house starting Monday and at the moment I'm trying to pick a fridge and wondered if anyone could recommend some brands/models/best places to purchase - its like a minefield!
I would like to spend under £1,000 - must have a water and ice dispenser and have double opening.

Have a look on https://www.trade-appliances.co.uk
They do a huge range of American-style fridge freezers. Samsung and LG do quite a few for under £1,000. When you've decided on the one you want put the code into kelkoo for the cheapest price as sometimes trade appliances can be beaten on price.
You will have LESS room in an American side-by-side than if you had a separate fridge and freezer, which most people don't realise; and if you keep foods that have a strong smell e.g. garlic in the fridge it can turn the taste of the water and ice in the dispenser. Having said this, lots of people love 'em.

I have just changed over to one of these, and have found that while I have much more fridge space (it always looks empty), I have less freezer space.
Still think its great tho, we opted for a samsung which cost about £800 came with ice/water dispenser, you can also opt for one with a quick grab section.
Keep an eye out at B&Q when they have discounts on the kitchens & appliances they sell a range there and you can get about 15-20% off at times. hth£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -

Hi we just got an American style Samsung last week, can I ask you a question Tigertiger, is your freezer really noisy? much more noisy than the fridge when its on? Ours is really loud, and seems to be on most of the time, to begin with I assumed it was "breaking in" but a week later and it still sound louder than the washing machine on spin
Thanks MrsB.
Oh re the smell transfer to ice/freezer - ours has a filter system (in reality 2 carbon filled bags which the air flows through:rolleyes: ) which we were asssured would stop the smell from the fridge going into the freezer bit - dunno if it works, but might be a feature worth looking at.
It's only a game

I have this one too if you decide to go for this option bear in mind the filters are very expensive but i have a website for compatibles that work just fine and are a fraction of the cost.

I think you should get it checked out, ours does make a noise .(no louder than any other appliance) certainly not like a machine on spin. I can't recall it making a noise when it was first installed which was about 2 months ago, hth
Also Quillion thanks for the tip£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -
You'll find other Moneysavers complaining about their Samsung being noisey - do a search on here - we didn't have this problem with ours though. Wish we still had it, but it stayed at our old house when we moved!
Agree the Pozzani as filter suppliers, mentioned & also the idea that freezer space is less than it should be - guess they think we should have more fresh, but chilled foods & another BIG freezer in the garage!!
Samsumg WERE offering 3years warranty, not sure if this is still true.
Do get ice/water dispenser, it's not a gimik, it's really good idea!
Watch Comet/Currys/Dixons all trying to out price themselves, with the lowest 'special' deal on their particular models. BUT check the capacity & which fridge they're offering, they're NOT all the same size!
& do check how low the Whirlpool models are being priced at now, but make sure you're happy with the way the ice dispenser is on their ones - looks fidly to me!!
Now we'll just have to find a new house, so we can have one again!!

A very important thing to think about is space.
Don't just look at your kitchen and say that there is enough space in there, look at the route into the kitchen and make sure that there is plenty of room to manoeuvre. You would be amazed how many times I turn up to deliver a yankee and have to take it away as it just won't go through the angles into the kitchen :mad:0 -

we have an american style samsung but, after originally wanting the water dispenser type, went instead for the one without the dispenser. The reason for this was that there is much more room in the freezer if you do not go for that particular model. It is amazing how much the dispenser unit cuts into your actual freezer space. Also, our is pretty quiet. overall, we are extremely pleased with it.0 -
Remember fridges with water and ice dispensers require a cold water supply plumbing in....quite costly depending on where you position it.0
