The Great 'What to buy/not to buy in pound shops' Hunt

Best deals I have seen were
4 bottles of Lucozade Sport (500ml)
Dettol shower cream (1L)
Vanish Liquid pre-wash (1L)
All them were available in the 99p shop sometime back.
Admittedly the Dettol and Vanish appeared to have been made for Malaysia and Poland respectively (English language label of ingredients etc had been pasted over original wording) but at this price I am not complaining.
Best I have come across in Home Bargains was - 25p for Maggie Coconut Milk Powder. I remember this as when I actually wanted this stuff, I had to pay £2.15 in Tesco's!
Poundland ripoff - bottles of multivitamins - 70p elsewhere.My reality check bounced.0 -

get them from tesco - their value camping pillows are 90p and flocked top. decent size too0 -
Should be okay then but even for backup batteries I would use Alkaline as a minimum. Not worth cutting corners on any life saving device.
Ian.
Even alkaline can be dubious when v. cheap. I had some from 99p shop that failed in a few months in smoke alarms. I checked the stock that I'd bought at the same time and around half of them were about 7V but still well in date.
Got some Kodak Extralife (one in a pack) from Poundland (saw them recommended in a forum), dated 2019(!) but don't yet know how good/bad they are.0 -
Pardon my ignorance on this matter (I am usually 'up to speed' on most other things
) Reference to cheap batteries in smoke alarms, surely if the battery is about to fail then the smoke alarm bleeps, and you know it is time to replace it.
Am I missing something?Thank you for reading this message.0 -

If the battery is poor, it could fail every few weeks. If your stock of PP3s is going flat within date you then have no replacement.
There could even be a chance of the battery losing voltage, the alarm bleeping and the battery running too low for the bleeper during a day. If you're out for a day you wouldn't know unless you test the alarm.
Some of these products are so poor that they could be directly or indirectly dangerous.0 -
anyone tried the microfibre towels - the ones that supposedly soak up more water than a normal towel, or the waxing strips from the 99p stores?0

These towels are great for golf.0
