Poundland regularly stock Agfa Vista 200 film, which is a great all rounder and produces vibrant colours. The film is well within date and so far I have had perfect results from it.

I buy a lot of camera film and £1 a roll is by far the cheapest available these days. The next cheapest I've ever found is online at £1.88 per film, but there is then a postage charge.

Believe me they are not just pieces of wire! There is a massive difference between a good quality interconnect and a cheap one.
Hi-Fi and audio visual eqippment is only as good as the cables connecting it.

What difference(s) would the average person notice between a £1 HDMI cable and a £13 one?

(Assuming for a moment that the £13 one isn't just the £1 one with a fancier box).
  • Be aware that Poundland has a big scam going on with food. The packs they have are SMALLER than the usual ones in shops.

I'd forgotten this and just bought some Polo mints - the pack is ALMOST the same size as usual but the tubes inside are MUCH smaller. Very annoying as that is not a bargain IMO, it's a rip-off.

Also be aware that Poundland takes part in the Workfare scheme where people who are unemployed have to go and work for no pay for SIX WEEKS. On the whole this scheme may sound a good idea but most people ARE NOT offered a job at the end of it. Many employers are seeing this as a way of getting something for nothing, Asda are doing the same and laying off their staff in the process. It's something this government are deliberately doing as they get big donations from the big money makers.

Your life could depend on your smoke alarm one day and so could that of your children. Buy the best battery you can. The Tesco battery at £3.50 will not be the CHEAPEST one, I guarantee that, but it will be an Alkaline one which will protect your life, and that of your children, more reliably and longer than the two for a pound jobs. Even better buy a Lithium battery for £7 or better still chuck out your smoke alarm when the battery goes and buy a sealed 10 year one. If you are completely strapped for cash the fire service will come and fit you a new alarm for free.

Also, in case you didn't know, smoke alarms themselves should be replaced at 10 years maximum, preferably 7 years. The detector in them deteriorates and is past its best after that time.

PLEASE do not use cheap batteries in smoke alarms.

    Ian.

Thanks Ian, I probably should have clarified. I'd be dubious about using cheapo batteries as the main power source, but in our flat we have 2 smoke alarms and a heat alarm. They are good quality, around 5 years old, mains powered and all connected together, with individual battery backups. When one goes off, the others quickly follow.

I check them every month by pressing the button, and when the battery levels get low they let out periodic (very loud) beeps, prompting replacement.

I always thought that as long as they tested ok and beeped at you when they should, they were fine. But after your comment I think I'll go out and buy better batteries, even though they're just backups.

    Thanks

I have found halogen bulbs to be useless from pound shops! I fitted a bout 4 and all went within days of them being put in :( Ok, they are cheap enough but, I could have bought a bar of chocolate with that money :(

A HDMI cable is transferring a digital signal. It is ones and zeros. It will either work or not. It was worthwhile getting a decent, sheilded scart cable as they are analogue and subject to degradation of the signal, i.e. it's not just a case of a scart either working or not. There is no point in spending silly money on expensive digital cables.

Condoms can be very good value, e.g 18 plain, ribbed or flavoured ones at the 99p Shop. However, the catch is that they are all very narrow, probably because they are aimed at the Far East market. :(
