I've had my 24 month 3 contract since 23rd October 2011 and is due to end October 2013. Currently paying £30 a month.
Anyone know the earliest you can downgrade tariff with 3?
I've read different things, some saying you can't, some saying you used to be able to half way through, and some saying 110 days before the expiry.
I want to reduce it at the earliest opportunity. I'm not bothered about a new phone as mine is currently fine.

best off just ringing up and asking them and see what they can offer.
most networks did used to allow you to downgrade but many no longer do0 -
24 months from opening - and your contract is not due to do anything, it will continue as before, but you reach he end of you minimum term.
You can then ask to drop to a SIM only tariff closer to your use, or go PAYG.0 -
Yes I know it will continue beyond the fixed term date. What I mean is I want to reduce it at the earliest opportunity.
I will ring them up later and see what they say. I wan't to either reduce it, or go onto monthly rolling sim at end of the contract period. Don't want PAYG.
If they don't allow downgrades until the 24th month is over then that is fine too.0 -
AFAIK - 3 don't allow contract downgrades during the minimum term. IIRC they stopped doing this a couple of years ago. Always worth a quick call though0

No such thing as a 'rolling SIM'. If you do nothing, all contracts become 30 days minimum term once the lock-in ends.0

orange still let you downgrade halfway through a contract dont know about the othersWhat goes around-comes around0

I think he gets it mate.
You don't have to tell people who aren't even asking about their contract ending that they have to cancel it themselves. From reading the OP's post's it's clear he knows all this already.
But nope, three stopped downgrading a while ago i think. Worth a call to customer services just to make sure though.0 -

I upgraded in the middle of a contract to get increased data allowance. When I realised I wasn't using the additional minutes / texts I phoned and asked to downgrade the tarrif and get an all you can eat data add-on. They initially refused outright but when I persisted because I had taken out the contract on a lower tarrif, and got a cheaper phone associated with that, they relented.
I'd imagine a sizeable chunk of your £30 per month goes to paying for the shiny phone which you got in 2011 so you mightn't have much luck but don't take the first no for an answer.0 -
The phone was indeed shiny in 2011, and still is in excellent condition, but it certainly wasn't 'free' on this tariff.0
