    Your landlord is the owner. Whoever you were talking to was not your landlord. I thought you said you had the postal address of your landlord?

    That sort of response sounds like it came from a letting agent, and is really all a letting agent can ever say until instructed otherwise. Contact the owner directly yourself. You are wasting time and increasing arrears not doing this.

    What I think is that you are wasting a lot of time typing stuff on here that people have already advised you is totally irrelevant to your situation, when you could be spending the time doing things that people here have advised you will actually help.

    i know i just wanted to know what people thought of the woman next door having to live in such terrible circumstances.

    Meanwhile 60+ posts in and instead of doing what has been repeatedly advised, you're telling us about your neighbours. Get a blog, they are free! On here it is counter-productive because people will start to lose interest.

    If they were that terrible Environmental Health would have got involved.

    Have you established yet whether your rent increase demand was administered correctly? You are in arrears and could face eviction if not.

    I am sorry. Having been there myself I know how hard it is but you either stay there and cough up the rent increase, and what you feel is an unfair situation or you move. Building up rent arrears if you are short of money is really not a good idea. I get the feeling that because u feel it is unfair, you have been hiding your head in the sand for a while. Say they notified you in December.., its at least 6 months or 26 weeks, 26x£6 is £156. If you can't afford £6 extra rent, how are you going to pay this back. How are you going to afford to move if you decide to.

    You need to seriously consider your options.

    I'm sorry to sound so blunt but just because you have been in a property for a long time it doesn't change the fact the the LL wants to make a profit from it, and also has to deal with rising costs just like a tenant.

    no i dont think it should have stayed the same as 1950. They did nothing to the house for her though its shameful to leave an old woman like they did.

    As said it was so bad the new people have had to start from scratch and spend alot of money modernising the house and getting it liveable in. Its about time landlords and agencies changed abit. How would they like to live in those conditions.
