Wow! I guess some of you completely ignored the 'newbie' and 'be nice' notices! OK to those of you who have been constructive and nice - thank you! To those who feel the need to give my life a post mortem and be unhelpful - get a life! If you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing! I'm not about to itemise my shopping - it's irrelevant. Stress should be avoided in pregnancy which is why I mentioned it, particularly when you've already been through a stillbirth and two miscarriages (not even sure why I'm feeling the need to justify my reasons!) I am always polite and reasonable when dealing with people - I used to work in retail many moons ago and know how to communicate effectively. I was in no way offensive, threatening or pushy - the staffs attitude from the word go was ignorant - perhaps due to it being 7:15pm on a Saturday?! I'm not rich and it was my last £10, the change from which was needed to get my bus home. An 8 mile walk home would have been necessary if the error hadn't been rectified. What help was I expecting on this forum? If you've read my initial post in full and you understand English, it's right at the end! I'm sorry I even posted in this forum now - not sure I'll bother again if it's full of judgmental idiots with nothing constructive to say0

I'm pretty sure the OP is aware she's pregnant since she told us that herself. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Now, you see, your first post (below) contradicts what you said in your later post (above):Tescophobic wrote: »By this point I was getting irate and felt I was being accused of lying. She said they would need to check something first and said the boss would be along soon.0 -

Why don't you write them a nice little letter explaining how it made you feel. They'll probably be really apologetic and send you a gift card.0

So you want us to be nice to newbies but are happy to call everyone else idiots? It works both ways here OP.Pants0 -
Always carry a payment card with you as backup or spare cash as backup. Just going out with a £10 note for the day so far from home is daft especially if you are pregnant.
Don't put yourself if that stressful position again.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
Oh for heavens sake - this is ridiculous now! It is possible to feel irate without displaying this fact, I do it all the time with my in- laws! Yes I'm new and obviously want people to be nice when I'm a complete forum newbie - I had done nothing wrong to warrant negative comments but if you choose to post comments which are derogatory then you obviously are an idiot. Being a forum expert doesn't give you the right to be obnoxious. Lastly, I did not leave the house with just £10. This was my last port of call before heading home and my cash had been well budgeted for up to this point. I can't afford to take extra cash out with me for any unexpected eventualities - I just don't have this luxury.0

depending on the size of the store, it would be very unlikly for them to be able to check the tills straight away.
At the store i used to worked at, there was usually no one in the cash office on sunday, and they would have finished by saturday afternoon, so there would be no one to actually check the till until monday
and cashing up the self scan tills is not a simple job, and does take abit of time, more so than it does for the normal tills.
Unfortunately you get people all the time trying it on to get some money which is why they will never just hand over the money without checking. If your looking for someone to blame, blame the ones that keep trying to con the stores out of money0
