We moved in 2 weeks ago and the place was very clean. they left us a bottle of bubbly, a card and a folder with manuals, warranties and other useful bits of info. we have only had minor surprises so far including;
the toilet rocks when you get up form doing your business. It seems that it was plumbed in but not tied to anything or the wall/floor?
The power shower does not have hot water (so why have it in the 1st place?). The rest of the taps work find though and I particularly like the one in the kitchen.
The ceilings are a lot lower than we thought. All our wardrobes have had to be ebayed as they are too tall for the house!
The local fox population use our garden as a hangout spot! And all the back neighbours cats and dogs seem to use our garden (in turns ofcourse) to catch the sun rays. In fact we do get a lot more animals here. We put out bird food and the squirrels took it, then we put out nuts for the squirrels and the cats fought over it. I have spent many hours sitting in the conswervatory waiting to see what the animals are up to next. lol
We tried to jet wash the conservatory roof last week ad we found 2 leaks. IT does not leak when it rains but the due to the huge amounts of water we were using it could cope. we shall have to address this at some point.
The cooker was so fancy we did not understand the instructions at all. We have now managed to get the oven working on the different settings so hopefully no more burnt chips/sausages/etc. One of our friends pointed out yesterday that it has a touch screen! We have been using it for the last 2 weeks and we did not know that.
Vendor left us a nice garden table and a a big bbq. The bbq was not cleaned the last time it was used (looks like 5yrs ago). I am going to give a scrub but im not too hopeful so it might end up on the tip.0 -

A stack of 1990's motorbike magazines on the toilet cistern.
Three boxes of 1980's porno magazines in the attic.
Oh, and a massive moth infestation in all the carpets. An infestation so bad, 10's of larvae had even crawled inside the mains electric sockets. (I found out when investigating a duff socket).Back off man, I'm a scientist.
Daily Mail readers?
Can you make sense of the Daily Mail’s effort to classify every inanimate object into those that cause cancer and those that prevent it ?0 -
Some interesting and horrific things there.
My first rented flat still had what seemed like a kitchen full of stuff, glasses, pots, pans, tins (fortunately) of food, washing powder etc etc. Binned everything apart from a few bits of glassware I liked.
The previous tenant had died suddenly0 -
Barrats left champagne and chocolates and a card which was nice on top of wrapping our front door in big green bow and three toilets.
Then upon return from holiday found from mortgage provider some shortbread screws wine screwdriver set picture hooks etc in a ftb care package.
probably standard but felt nice after spending all that money.
love the house!0 -
When I viewed my house, the vendor had a big bottle of Moet champagne sitting in the kitchen. I subtly hinted that I'd like to have a glass of it upon completion and was hoping he'd leave it but no such luck. We’ve had to remove your signature. I've just thought of another one......bit silly really, but here goes -
The buyer of our last-but-one house was someone infamous - google *girl murdered tent peg* and you'll see who I mean- and it was only after we'd completed on the sale that I realised when clearing the garden I inadvertently left stuck in the lawn some tent pegs that we'd used to hold down a cover over some garden furniture.
I spent a few sleepless hours that night wondering if he'd think we'd left them deliberately to show we knew who he was as we'd never had the discussion (obviously!) and even our EA and solicitor hadn't twigged his ID :eek:Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

I don't need to Google, it was Jake the Peg.
