We moved into a house years ago and discovered a full size 1 bedroom static caravan hidden behind the bottom garden fence! The fence, trees and bushes completely hid it. We were gobsmacked. We'd viewed the house in the dark and not noticed the garden was a bit shorter than the neighbours! Nobody mentioned it and surveys didn't pick it up either.

I redecorated it and we used it for guests!

    Wow! I'd have loved that!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

We have now spent the last 5 weeks trying to encourage the LL to get us a new boiler (no hot water or central heating with young kids is not fun) get skips ordered, joiners hired, new carpets, locks changed, plumbers................ we are living in a freezing dump while the LL scrapes enough money together (no she didn't have insurance and them not paying rent skinted her completely). Oh and she has had a major falling out with LA and has sacked them as they treated her like crap too. It's like being stuck in the middle of 2 divorcing parents.

OMG I so feel for you guys, would just like to give you hugs and a week in a luxury hotel! Sounds like you've coped in a most admirably stoic way. Keep going, you'll get to cleanliness, peace, warmth and relaxation eventually!!
  • We viewed our house a few times before eventually buying it. Each time it seemed clean, neat and tidy. The day we moved in we noticed that the previous owners had left a t-towel on the kitchen side next to the sink/drainer. When we moved it we discovered a massive hole in the worktop - i.e the sink/drainer was around 6 inches smaller than the whole!!!!!! b'stards!
