iammumtoone , your laptop will have either an HDMI or VGA output - get the correct cable to input to the appropriate port on your TV. HDMI carries both sound and piccie,VGA only carries piccie so you would also need to output sound via standard RCA type connector.

The http://www.catchuptv.com/ website transmits TV as it is broadcast live (barring a minor delay due to technical reasons) so you DO need a licence to use it.

From their website (a page explaining that students may not need to have a TV licence):
Whilst this website does not retain records that could identify any individual users or their access to content, all other users are reminded that they are otherwise required to be covered by a valid TV licence or risk legal action.

You mention watching FOX through your XBOX. If this is being streamed 'live' as the channel is broadcast, then you need a TV licence for that, whether or not it's your aunt's subscription.

If you're truly just watching 'Catch Up' / 'On-Demand' services then you don't need a licence.

Via the XBOX(which isnt my subscription), catch up on family guy, american dad etc

Doesn't matter if it's your subscription or not, you're still watching a live broadcast. If you want to stop paying for a TV licence then you need to give up watching any live broadcasts completely.

I explained again how all i watch is on demand etc over the net, she returned with "As long as you dont stream live TV online, then theres no need for a licence"

I have to fill in a refund form and someone might come round the property to inspect it.

Do not do their forms. You are under no obligation to fill them in and BBC TV Licensing has a habit of falsifying the forms once signed as their goons make commission!

They also use the information against you. All you have to do is ignore them, trust me these people at BBC TV Licensing are 100% (censored)

That isn't Catchup, they just kept the name from when it was, before the BBC got them shut down

Completing the refund form is fine. It's the record of interview form (TVL178) that has a bad habit of being mucked about with.

If you don't watch/record live TV broadcasts, you don't need a licence.

If you don't need a licence, cancel it if you have one, and collect the refund.

From then on, you're under no obligation to deal with TVL, and are best advised not to.

With an indoor aerial you could easily watch live TV, you also say you have equipment capable of receiving live TV.
I suspect indoor ariels don't work these days do they?

If you're not watching live tv you don't need a licence. If you only watch things on catch up services like iPlayer, you don't need a tv licence.
  • Of course indoor ariels work. You can plug them into a freeview box in a strong signal area & get freeview perfectly well.

Yes, if they had suddenly ceased functioning, they wouldn't be still available in the shops!

Surely regardless of the reason for the delay, it is no longer live. My catchuptv reception is delayed by 3 or 4 seconds, so it is no longer live.
