  • Morning Toughies, horrid morning here earlier on with very heavy rain and thunder so the lurcha is in a bit of a state now, poor old fella. I had the gift of a lifetime yesterday when He Who Knows came back from DD1. They'd been emptying her loft of the stuff that the previous tenants had left there and came across a beautiful very heavy real sheepskin jacket which is perfect except it is missing some buttons. She'd been in touch with the people concerned who said just throw it all away so she sent it home for me, WOW!!! It's something I've always dreamed of but the price has never been affordable and it will fit me perfectly when I've lost another half a stone of weight, it does up but is 'snug'. I've sourced the proper leather buttons at £.2 69 each and it'll need a dry clean but oh my goodness, I'm a lucky, lucky me!!! Next winter I'll be snug as a bug as I have a sheepskin hat and gloves already and they are toasty warm, life does throw some surprises doesn't it? and this is a very nice one, Lyn xxx.

Oooh that IS lucky Mrs LW - get it sorted as soon as you can! (snug or not this is the weather to be wearing it!)
    Must use my stash up!
  • I don't mind sheepskin JEM as it's a by product from the growing sheep for food industry, I know some people shudder at the thought of fur and I don't like the idea of killing something purely for its pelt, but if it has been bred for the food industry I like to see every part of the animal used that it's possible to use. I envy you the warmth of those fur coats though, to inherit one is a very different case to having one made new now so enjoy wearing them and be warm, Lyn xxx.
  • Argh. Well, I've managed to utterly fail already!

I've lost the spread sheet I made, and the receipts I kept, and spent way too much at the shops after promising myself I wouldn't, because we had people over for dinner... so bought nice food and more drinks than we should have. I've also got a fairly big house party coming up on the 18th for my thirtieth, which means MORE spending. The house is a mess again, my diet's not improved one iota and I feel like a slug :/

I think I might just have to give this month up budget wise and start again in February *annoyed*

Sorry for the moan, I'm just so very annoyed at how rubbish we've managed to be in one blasted week!

  • Wow Lyn, lucky you. I've always longed for a proper sheepskin jacket but never been able to afford on and, to be honest, could not wear one now because of the weight. Enjoy getting good use of it.

Sheila I hope the trip to the hospital goes well for you. It's such a pain having to go backwards and forwards so much I know. Well done on getting the diabetes stabilised. I have my annual check tomorrow and am not looking forward to it as know there will be hard words. Can't seem to cope when I'm not well or stressed and has been a lot of that recently.

Jem glad you had such a good sleep. As you say, you must have needed it.

Well I had better go and stir the lentil soup on the hob and while am in kitchen think another cuppa would be nice.

    Keep well everyone.
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.
  • Hi all.

Glad to see things are getting better for many & for those who is still facing tough times, Stick with it. It will get better. Hugs all round. X

I’m trying to source whether its cheaper and easier for our shopping to be done at a local market monthly. (Fruit, veg & meat of course). I have sourced a butcher at the market who is online. I know the fruit & veg gang are extremely cheap anyway.

    What’s bothering me is:

    1) the upfront cost. Its keeping the money behind to allow it to build up.
    2) I know the fruit and veg will not last long, and its such a trek to the market to go weekly.
    3) The amount of room that will be taken up in the freezer, Less for top up items / quick meals.

Maybe I’m just being silly, Might have to chat to OH about it. But I fear its falling on deaf ears atm. He seems to have lost all his motivation to become OS / MS.

He just cant seem to appreciate how far we have come so far. Killing off nearly 5 debts in six months isn’t something to be sniffed at, But he just says, They’ll keep coming. Very down & depressed OH atm.

Onthecatbus. Don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m still fairly new to changing my living style, It takes work. And many times we all fall of the wagon, Just try and get back on.
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy

Lyn what a lovely find and jem I am drooling at the thought of those beaded bags etc, a great incentive to loose weight to wear those dresses. I would love to see a couple of pics if you have the time to put them on (says she who never does!) I am totally against wearing fur unless it is vintage or as a genuine byproduct as Mrs LW says. I had a rabbitfur hat as a child (handme down from someone else) and as soon as I realised what it was I refused to wear it. We had a pet rabbit with the same colour fur who sadly died one Christmas and I hated the hat after then.

Hope your appointment goes well today Shegar, a long journey for you but hopefully worth going for.

welcome to onthecatbus, don't try and do too much at once. be kind to yourself and start off slowly and gradually build up.

Princess you are doing brilliantly. Don't worry about OH, being OS/MSE 80% say of the time is miles better than 0%. Keep on jumping right back on that wagon and give yourself a massive pat on the back.

Well our old faithful car passed his MOT -a boy car not a girl ;) - 3rd year in a row unbelievably. Though it has had bits and pieces done in the year like a new tyre etc and has been serviced regularly. Do have a couple of advisories for later on so will start savifng for those plus a service later in the year. Counselling form handed in and am going to do my 1st chili in the slowcooker then pop into town for some errands before school run. The time goes by so quickly til I have to pick up my boys.

take care and stay dry. weather is very wet and damp here, sitting in my overlarge (mens small) dressing gown, the one I wear on top of clothes around the house. it was cold sitting in the MOT waiting area though the men there treated me like a princess, making me coffee and even discretely turning round a screen with scantily clad ladies on hmmmmm (and obviously not that discrete as I noticed... I am a nosey woman ha ha!)
  • PX87 would it make sense and save freezer space in the long run to go and buy your less expensive meat, fruit and veg as normal and to spend the next day making all the dishes you'd planned to in one big cooking session then freezing them in 2 person portions so they are ready to use and will only need to be pulled out of the freezer and popped into the fridge to defrost the evening before you're going to eat them? This would also save you some fuel as you could use the oven full of dishes and not have to heat it up every time you needed to cook a meal. The freezer would be full, but not of ingredients to store them, it would be ready to go meals, hope that helps, Lyn xxx.
