Good idea that Sheila. When DH and I were expecting eldest we rented part of a farmhouse. The green carpet was black believe it or not. We took up the living room carpet, DH hired a floor sander from work and we varnished it. It's was incredibly homely. That house had a real fire too. Good memories of first getting together and having eldest
Do you think that's something you could do Princess?
I agree Shiela. We are going to have to do some work in the kitchen if I'm to truly settle here. That's the plan so some new vinyl kitchen flooring and some replacement cupboard doors will be saved for later in the year.
The amount of money we spent on our mortgaged house thinking it was ours...0 -

Some of you may rember when we moved into DH house 3 years ago we fell out with his adult daughter when we asked her to move out or pay rent well after 3 years of not talking she has been round for tea 2x this year . Dh is back to his normal self it's so nice to see . I knew it was affecting him more than he was letting on. .I have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
We would happily rip the carpets up and replace them throughout the house, However the LL has refused this point blank. Stating that only he can do that & he isn’t repaired to do so.
Plus, A year ago the kitchen had lino and it split because of them replacing a new cooker. I ended up reporting this continuously and eventually I fell over it and managed to injure my back & arm. So OH being a ceramic tiler offered to re-tile the kitchen at our expense. Which they was never happy about, But cheaper than me reporting it.
I am going to try a mix of bicarb / washing powder mix tonight before going to bed. I also have a made up bottle of “fresh-water” as my brothers call it which I spray on the curtains and sofa, bed, Ect daily.
Under the carpets….Who knows.
Worried about the smell of dogs? Me too. I have two… Thanks for the advice. xFuture goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0 -
Thanks everyone for your good wishes. They have obviously worked as I feel marginally better today although have no energy at all.
People are so kind. My friend who has a farmhouse near here, the one where her beautiful homely kitchen is full of stuff she has had all her married life (just celebrated her golden wedding), came by today, took one look at me and announced that the two of us were going to spend Monday sitting in front of her woodburner being waited on hand and foot and she wouldn't let us leave until the evening. I didn't argue.
I do feel sorry for those of you with smelly carpets. I remember having this problem some years ago when we had an old incontinent cat. I also spent hours sprinkling and scrubbing. I think Neutrogena was the most effective but a bit expensive.
When we looked round the manse here the carpet in what was to be my bedroom was the most yucky shade of green you can imagine. When they asked if there was anything we needed to be changed I mentioned this carpet. The women in the group nodded understandingly but the men were adament that there were years of wear left in this carpet. Sadly, they were right. Anyway, the Rev said that we would probably rather have floorboards and the men promptly said, "but what about the carpet?" The Rev said helpfully that they could put it in the shed, meaning that if they were so attached to it they could put it back after we'd gone.
They LAID it in the shed. We must have the only shed in Ryde with a fitted carpet.
Somewhere I have a good recipe for Mincemeat Cake. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow. I made loads of it last year as I found some s'market selling large jars of mincemeat for a ridiculous price and went a bit mad. I think I still have a jar of it somewhere.
Well, me for an early night.
x
PS Glad your DH's daughter is trying to mend fences Jem. However much you are in the right it's always uncomfortable when there is friction in families. It would be nice if we could all get along. xI believe that friends are quiet angels

Hello toughies,
Had a great, mad afternoon at my friends yesterday. Boys' friend has 2 cousins, similar ages over and the 5 of them played really well together whilst my friend and I kept the food and snacks flowing. We were there for hours, didn't get home til about 7.30pm.
Today is the last day before school starts so I set my clock to wake up earlier than I have been and got the kids up. They were grumpy until they realised it was Sunday, great for today but not for tomorrow when it's for real! Making banana pancakes in a mo to use up some ripe nanas. Then bath and heading out to Sansberries to use a voucher expiring today and seeing if any YS and other bargainous bits.
For dinner trying a new dead easy recipe with pork and grapes. I hate chucking out grapes when they start to go a bit manky so hoping this recipe is a hit. Early baths, winddown and sensible bedtimes tonight (and that's just for me ha ha!)
catch you later, be good toughies.....
