Cheapest source of thermal mugs is TK Maximus, they usually have a good selection in there at reasonable prices, My own choice however would be a food flask, preferably a double skin stainless steel one which would be unbreakable and better insulated than a thermal mug. Again T K Maximus is the cheapest source of those and usually has a choice of brands available. We've got both mugs and food flasks and the food flasks definately keep soup etc. much warmer for much longer, Lyn xxx.0

Evening all.
I understand I’m being a pain in the rump here, But this whole new start has got me completing all the jobs I’ve been putting off.
I’ve got a question, However, Its slightly embarrassing but here goes.
We rent our property from a private LL. Through a estate agent. Since moving here we have noticed that all the carpets (Even have a carpeted bathroom) smells musty. So does the entire house.
I have the windows open everyday without fail, However, Everything I have tried, Including buying a carpet cleaner isn’t shifting this smell. I’m cleaning the entire carpets at least twice a month with nothing working.
Also, No amount of cleaner / air freshener / scented candles are working. Its got to the point we’re we dread opening the door incase other people thinks we’re untidy and smelly people.
I have asked on other Frugal sites and have been told that I need to remove the carpets, But that isn’t an option open to us?
Mon, Hope you start getting back on your feet soon my lovely, Take it slow xFuture goals:

PX have you tried sprinkling bicarb on the carpets before bed and vacuuming it up in the morning?Must use my stash up!0
-
Bicarb worked for the cats pee smell on ours princess. We also use neutrodol shake and vac type stuff and leave it over night. We also sprinkled bio washing powder on but that didn't work as good as the bicarb and I wouldn't use it overnight incase of colour problems.
Good luck - replacing carpets isn't an option open to us either so I know how awful it is to deal with0 -
Princess, the carpet in our lounge is similarly musty to what you describe. We use a three pronged approach.
1. Sprinkle with bicarb and let set as long as possible.
2. Put a few drops of essential oil on the vac bag--not sure how this would work if you have a bagless.
3. Burn candles.
This will usually shift the smell for a few days but we always make sure to do it right before anyone comes 'round. It must be awful if it is in more than just one room.:(0 -
PRIN87........The only option you really have to rid those terrible smells is take them up, which I understand isnt possible for you..........
I do understand not wanting to put new flooring into someone elses home and if you should move its "lost money".......
Ive had this predicament a few times in rental , beings im abit house proud , id put new carpets and paint in rentals only to find the LL liked what id done , then put the bloody rent up.....!!..........
Just make sure you do what you have been doing and thats air the rooms 24/7..............I dont think you can ever get the smell of dogs and cats out of carpets at all, by the way , whats under the carpets,?, floorboards would be nice ...:D........Sheila0 -
I could never get rid of the musty smell princess. But what used to help lessen it was shake and vac. Leave for a few minutes then hoover up.
I also would burn candles and incense sticks.
We're at the mil at the, oh the joy.
already told fil off for being nasty.
Monna hope your feeling better soon xx0 -
