    afternoon all!

snow oh snow where art thou snow?!

i'm doing the slimming world diet but it is hard to do, especially as i can't eat wholemeal bread, whole meals pasta as i'm allergic to it :(

ever since i had ds1 i'm struggled with my weight, it just goes up and down constantly. When i'm on a diet i put weight on, when i'm not i lose some. Just a nightmare.

Haven't got a clue about today, might see about going for a walk somewhere. the wind keeps putting me off.

The house is starting to return to normal, lucy tabby cat is back to tormenting shadow. tommy eating loads, no change there and the kittens have settled right in :)
ds2 has constantly being caring for 5 of them, feeding, making sure water is topped up. Giving them goats milk when needed. Filling biscuit tray up. Really good, so proud of him.

Better make a start on lunch, need to hang some washing out, in the hope it doesn't rain today and have another load in.

my OH and boys tv shows tends to be top gear, computing, marvel and dc cartoons, sci fi, science. But when i get hold of the remote downton abbey (tricked OH into it and now he's addicted muhahahahaha). I do like sci fi though and ds2 watches all the nature programs with me.

To get the leftover candle out just stick it in the freezer or fridge ice box and leave it about an hour. Give the wax a little push and it should move it enough to tip it out.

Fuddle, Pinkdebs et al: It isn't only men, you know. The Rev adores all those sorts of programmes - except sport, she can't abide sport. If someone made a film called ,"Mutant Aliens Invade the Earth and Using Unbelievable Vehicles and Guns and Incredible, Magic Machines, After Much Fighting Succeed in Ruling the World", she'd be first in the queue.

Also I am perfectly sure that every Sunday morning men and women of the cloth get up early and spend time in holy reading and meditation to prepare themselves for the services ahead of them. This one gets up early on a Sunday morning to watch American Wrestling.

Well, my voice has gone again. When herself is out and I have to answer the phone some interesting one sided conversations have taken place, mostly consisting of ,"Is there anyone there? Hello? Hello?"

The weather report for tomorrow doesn't look too promising which may mean another day indoors. I've started knitting Easter Chicks - well, if the supermarkets can sell Easter Eggs I'm not going to be left behind.

Errr.... the only recipe I know of for deep fried cabbage is the one to make chinese seaweed - is there really another one?

I fry (a-la stirfry) cabbage quite often, some about a tbsp) oil in the pan, toss through the cabbage, a tiny bit of water to create steam, and cook through till just done.

Stir fried cabbage is lovely, with the addition of chestnuts at Christmas time. Or bits of bacon.

stir fried cabbage with celeriac is just so yum! Start the celeriac first. Small cubes work best, then when it's starting to go golden add the cabbage
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Sheila deep fried spring greens in olive oil is lovely! I'm not sure about a recipe but all I did was dip the shredded cabbage into the hot oil for about 30 seconds, maybe more - instinct will tell you when to take out. Drain on kitchen paper and serve :) thank you. Another quick, cheap, easy, healthy and yummy string to my bow. Doing it again tonight with sausages and mash to use up more and make use of the oil I used.

About to go make a batch of porridge. We haven't had it in a while and dreaming of my honey swirl while I type with a grumbly tummy. Such a slow, late, lazy start this morning but it's been a long time coming!

Toughies how do you feel about so called 'pyjama days' with adults and children staying all day in PJ's? It's all I see on Facebook and I think I'm very much in the minority by needing to be washed and dressed even if we're all staying in.

I've had the discussion with the sewerage company re: direct debit. Really quite forceful that they expect £30 per month just for sewerage. It got my goat up but I kept calm and insisted that I shall be putting aside that amount every month in order to pay for what I use when te bill comes in.

I'm tired of service providers dictating what I must do and how much before I've even used a service. My direct debit list is shrinking and with the aid of my calendar (Keith Lemon - pressy from DH thinking its very funny that I must have him sprawled over my kitchen for the whole year!) I will pay my dues when they're due.

Just a little housework today because I want to spend time on planning what we're going to do with the garden, try to pre-empt the sun/shade issue to work out what might work fruit and veg wise. I fancy a raised bed ;)

    Morning All!

Flooding averted by the skin of our teeth, but a very soggy morning spent wading about in wellies shifting sandbags!

Fuddle - glad the cabbage worked out ok, but would say, even though it is olive oil, the cabbage will be quite calorific (I was horrified when I saw how many caloories there are in Chinese seaweed, which is deep fried cabbage with seasoning), which may be fine for your little one that needs to put on weight, but might not be so good for anyone wanting to lose ;). Stir frying with just a bit of oil and some water works really well, and might be worth keeping in mind if you want to reduce the calories.

I do delicious 'fried' mushrooms in a similar way - put them in a saucepan with just a tiny bit of water and bung on the lid. They will give off loads of liquid, once they do that, take the lid off and cook on high until the liquid evaporates - lots of concentrated flavour here. Once at that point I chuck in a small knob of butter and stir them all around and keep cooking on high till they go golden - delicious flavoursome 'fried mushrooms' for very few calories. A glug of soy or worcester sauce is also good.
