Fuddle, cut circles out of pastry, little spoon of mincemeat on one side dampen edges and fold in half, crimp the edges and you have little mincemeat pasties. Brush with egg wash sprinkle with sugar and Bobs your auntie!
That was my plan for mincemeat tarts this year. Has anyone ever put Drambuie into ready made mincemeat. I got a huge jar of Robertsons for under $7. The Cross and Blackwell with rum and brandy was nearly 15CDN and I refuse to pay that much when there is alcohol in the house.
It's still freezing but it's warmed up enough to snow.
Number two son has started a new job today and I'm worried. it's on a snow removal crew. So off he went with extra clothes, sock, flasks of hot drinks and lots of good wishes. He had a seasonal job with a very large American based toy shop in the shipping department but was told when he was hired he could be let go for any reason within the first 90 days. He was at day 81 and suddenly found out he was only going to get two days a week down from five and started looking for something else.
I'm just worried about frost bite and him hurting his back because snow is heavy.0 -
wondercollie,
Don't worry about him too much, he got out there and got a new job quick enough. He's clearly resourceful and that usually goes with being sensible.
You may find his calorie consumption increases though, I would worry more about that!0 -
Thanks bluebag. I'm his Mum and will always worry.
He looks like a younger Johnny Depp. Same build and colouring. He's actually had people tell him that he looks like JD and always gets very embarrassed and blushes a lot. I think he's better looking than JD and has better dress sense.
He's waiting to find out if his application for the military will be accepted. He knows he really doesn't want to go to university. He say's he has a few things under consideration. His uncle wants him to apply to the RCMP (he's biased because that's what he does for a living). My son said that he's saving his wages towards trade school fees if the military doesn't pan out. If he does enlist he's going to take a trip somewhere warm before basic training!0 -
Good morning all, woken up this morning still with a headache and feeling so tired. I have a day off from work so I can rest at some point.
Mums scan yesterday, we think went ok. The findings are sent to the consultant. They were running late, so I only just made it to work on time.
I have 2 spare tickets for aaalldddiii if anyone would like them. There is also some of the % coupons too. I have a lovely man who works in a paper shop and always brings me the coupons from 2 papers everytime they are in. I wont get to use them, so wanted to pass them on.
Today I am getting my haircut, its a bargain dry cut with the trainee.
Loving the stories about stockings and crackers, we use to leave a pillowcase with a few bits in. We didn't buy selection boxes as they were too expensive, we just bought a couple of treats for them. The same with easter eggs, we use to go on the Monday after and buy our girls their easter eggs half price from woolworths.
Well time to get ready and go to do the grocery shop. take care everyone xBSC member 137

DH is paid today so you know what that means... Christmas can begin here now
I've a list, it's all costed, sourced and bugetted for. All I need do now is gather. Only an OSer can do Christmas in one pay and no access to credit
I have to admit that there will be no savings, clothing, my car upkeep or cleaning and toiletry pots added to this month though.
I'm wondering about 2 litre bottles of Asd* water for 17p (I think) compared to the cost of a water filter because of the hard water here. Tea drinking is awful (sorry Southerners!) out of the tap so have been using basics water (absolutely fine) for our cuppa's and drinking water. It's cheap and accessible but I've got umpteen plastic bottles in recycling. Feel guilty even though it will be recycled. Is filter cartridges cheaper in the long run than 17p nearly every day?
My nose is telling me the carpet smell is back so bicarb-ing again later and then a dose of bio washing powder too. DH is able to get a carpet cleaner after Christmas so looks like another pro-clean. Oh, the cat! She has been taken in by an elderly lady on the estate somewhere. My neighbour tells me it's been gone about a year now. Is it in a cat's nature to just quit a home or would there have been a reason why it's left the previous tenant.0 -
Fuddle, just a thought but has the cat pee soaked through the carpet to the underlay, if so you may have a job to get rid of the smell."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0

Fuddle southern water is yuk. I had a filter jug when we lived in the south. I think the filters did last a while but I can't remember how long as we have been back in the north nearly twenty years now. Look around for a deal.
I buy the 17p bottles for my store in case the water goes off.
Cats often have more than one home. It may have decided the treats it was getting elsewhere were better or it may have had access to a nice warm fireplace and decided to stayI don't think anyone really knows why they upsticks and move. They are not as loyal as dogs.

You'll get used to the water eventually, honestly.
As for the cat pee smell, try your local pet shop, theres a spray you can for cat smells, it breaks down the structure of the urine which gets rid of the smell. We used it in our old rental place as we had a Tom come to visit a couple of times. I shall try and find a link to the stuff we used."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. I think it has gone through bigjenny. We'll just have to keep trying to draw it out with the machines and mask in between cleans. The carpet is 2 year old so no where near ready for replacing. Landlord isn't likely to foot the bill and the agent is friends with previous business woman tenant. I think she's trusted her and not done the spot checks and now protecting the tenant while protecting herself with the LL. The house was disgusting. My agent is lovely so very difficult to get cross with her but things are moving so slowly, if at all because she's not reporting properly to the LL. We just keep telling ourselves we are so lucky to have the house and try to not let it bother us.
We're paying about £5 per month for the cheapy water so if filters are less per month it would seem sensible. Will check it out. Should have worked it out myself in the first place!0 -

That's the one we used. It works so its worth the £4.
Water filters last longer than a month, we used to make them last at least 2 months, you can taste when they need changing."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
