The OS Doorstep - a helpful and supportive thread in these tough times

I hope we're not cliquey on this particular little corner of OS Style life, I certainly always try to welcome in any new friends as they start posting and it always makes me as a person very happy when new friends become regular posters and join in with us on a regular basis. We all support each other to the same degree and that's just how it should be. I find it distasteful in the extreme when one of us is singled out for less than kind comment, I don't always agree 100% with every post and there are folks I find it easier to empathise with than others, but my manners would be lacking and my humanity would be less if I just posted without thinking whatever comment first came to mind. I think that life in this day and age is difficult for each and every one of us to a degree, no one is exempt from the bad and vexing occurences that crop up all too often but what we do best is to hold each other up by kind words, kind thoughts and general cheerfulness, it costs nothing and gives much and I know from personal experience that it makes my world a much warmer and nicer place. So, please could we all just get back on an even keel, stop being caustic just because we can and get on with the day to day natter that is the delight of the Doorstep Thread? Thank you, Lyn xxx.0

SWEET PEA COTTAGE is it you that had just got the little rescue Podenga dog when you joined in with us for the first time last summer? I met then at Crufts a couple of years ago and was utterly enchanted with them as a breed, how are you both getting on? I'll bet you're having doggy fun, Lyn xxx.0

Ginny and anyone else who had brilliant news this week:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
For anyone else :grouphug: even if you didn't need it.
I bought another computer yesterday after Alibobsy's OH pronounced ours dead. It was advertised locally for £99 but because the man recognised me having bought bits and pieces before he knocked it down to £85 and I also got a keyboard which should have been £5.99 and he Knocked £1 off that too
I can't believe how much faster it is. I have to wait ages for each email to load sometimes on this one (we had two) I could even make a coffee while waiting. I also could only read and run on here most of the time as it all took too long.
I have made up my mind to go and get another soon as the grandchildren all like to play on them too.0 -
Well DH's little threesome of accidents has now cost us £240...
- He scraped his company car down a trolley-park thing in B&Q - £160 for the repair (but less than £400 for the insurance excess).
- That evening he broke his key in the lock trying to get it out after coming home - £60 for a locksmith.
- Then he managed to dislodge the glass soap dish by the bathroom basin from its holder (quite difficult as they are weighty & quite a snug fit) and knock it out, so it smashed onto the slate floor - £30 (if they are in stock as the manufacturer went out of business last year)
Oh well, it's only money!0 -
FLOSS all these things are sent to try us...........it's just that some try harder than others!!!!! Lyn xxx.0

Just a very quick hello as I am in the middle of the madness that is Christmas - where have all me smilies gone?
I think we are in agreement that everyone is welcome to post here and all entitled to our opinions. We know we do not agree with all posts 100% - would be weird if we did!
I have a suggestion folks...... Rather than add weight to any posts that are clearly singling people out in a negative way - as crops up regularly here - can we (all those that want to that is) just agree to completely ignore any mean spirited posters and just carry on with the rest of the thread like a "normal" day ? We have lost several nice folk both newbies and oldies along the way some due to being commented on in an thoughtful way and I am very sad about this.
hugs all round

I agree 100% MrsL but I have reported this postRosy_Bottom wrote: »Anyway I wouldn't be too smug about your finances love. How long did your last job last?
as I find it shockingly spiteful, and unprovoked.
I'll ignore them both now... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I love the term 'salad dodger'!
OK I have lost a xmas present. I bought a perfume set for my niece and it's gone. Someone tell me what I've done with it.
Re: dogs. I know very well I should just forget about this other little lady. But I look at her sad eyes and I read how she couldn't even walk on a lead 3 months ago (presumably as she'd been used as a breeder only) and she just melts my heart. I think I'm going to take Lottie to meet her and we'll see. If I can't get her on a trial basis to make sure she and Lottie get on, I won't get her.0 -
I totally ignore that sort of thing too SQ and I think these posters would be shocked if they knew how much it reveals about them as a person. like a wormy apple lol
I have a question for you all... not an easy one! Is there anybody here who honestly, truly, really is having an old-fashioned xmas ?? With not one high-tech high-price item at all? With no bought anythings? It's not a judgemental thing or a competition thing...is just me wondering if it is possible
I so hate xmas, wish I could make it different.0
