Mardatha - that is so right, I remember the year DS15 got everything on his list (he didnt ask for much that year) and then on Christmas morning he says - see I told you Santa doesnt care if I dont go to bed I still got all my gifts. After that my kids never get everything they ask for and usually get a few potatoes thrown in as well for good measure - Santa removes gifts for bad behaviour and replaces them with a potato!!0

Aftrnoon Toughies, what a day!!! I had intended to go into town on the bus this morning and got to the bus stop for 9.15 for the 9.22 bus, allegedly!!! It didn't come so we waited and waited and then the 10.22 didn't come either!!! so being stubborn 4 of us waited and waited and waited and then the 11.22 didn't come but by then 6 busses had passed us going in the other direction. At 11.55 one bus came back into the village, unfortunately not the one going where I wanted to go, 2 and 1/2 hours late and the driver said all the others were stuck unable to move in the city centre. At 12 o clock we all gave in and went home. The local radio has just said it's grid lock in the city due apparently to a lorry incident and several sets of road works in the area but, what a way to run a transport system eh? I wouldn't have minded but I was trying to go in the opposite direction to a nearby town, oh well, I'll try again in the morning.
GAILEY your little ones won't remember what they didn't have when they grow up but what they will remember is doing things WITH you and having time to share with you having fun. Ask my girls what they remember from thier early childhood and they will instantly say making things with you, cooking with you, walks in the woods finding interesting things and seeing the wildlife and being able to identify what we were looking at. They'll say all those pictures we drew that you stuck on the fridge door, going to the allottment with you and Pa and being able to get muddy, picking fruit and veg and then taking it home for supper and helping prepare and cook it and eat it. Ask them what they had for christmas and they can't remember, ask them what we didn't have that other people had and they'll say 'but we had you and Pa and we had fun, I don't remember ever wanting things!!!' What children value way over posessions is the time and interaction of thier parents, doing things with them and that you can't put a price on!!!
I'm off to walk the lurcha in a minute, it's a lovely sunny day out there and I'm going up the lanes and then down to the river and then back home for a cuppa, look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.0 -
Stiltwalker - brilliant news
Mrs LW - I think its time someone looked at buses in general - cancelling buses for good reason is fine, but there should be a way of communicating cancellations to people stood cold at bus stops.0 -
KIDCAT He Who Knows phoned the bus depot from home and they said 40 minutes delay, but wouldn't say why, thank heavens for mobile phones, and hubbys at home!!! In honesty we were in a sheltered sunny spot and nattering away so it wasn't dire, just long!!!0

Oi Mar, hands off my jelly babies!
Stilty - well done!!!
Gailey - small daughter really need 4 coats??? Mine only ever had one each plus a zip up fleece top that could be worn underneath on really cold days (the fleece also worked for those times when it's to warm for a coat but to cold for shirtsleeves). A sponge down in the evenings if it was mucky and it would get shoved in the wash every couple of weeks when we came in from school, out the machine and on the airer overnight and dry in the morning.
Having 4 coats just leads to 4 times as much clutter, especially when you have lots of littlies.
Just had a wander around a couple of local CS, 2 balls of wool for 50p (100gms in each) and a really pretty vintage table cloth for £1. That's me happy
Roasting a chicken for tea, feels like a roast potato night too - its nippy out there."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

I think some of my favourite parts of my character are a result of growing up poor.
Hello again -
I think this is a fantastic thing to say - I wish i'd thought of it
I grew up poor, too, it makes me appreciate every single thing I have. But actually I am not overly into "things" as such. My OH and my kids don't know what it's like to go without - but they know it hurts me if they waste stuff or spend money unnecessarily.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
My kids range from 26 to 36, they all think they had a fantastic childhood, what they remember is the time I spent with them, that I listened to them, played with them & cuddled them.

pooky - I assumed the coats were due to getting wet and not dry in time, I know when we were in the last house coats could stay wet for days, it depends on the house. The last house was so damp nothing dried very well at all, which meant our kids had lots more coats than ever before.
Am exhausted today and feel like I am walking through treacle, I think not having the rest at the weekend which I have had the previous weeks is making a huge difference.0 -
evening all,
congratulations stiltwalker!!!!!

Kidcat (((hugs)))
Its true about chirstmas, but have to admit i still get caught up in, with two children you can't help it. Its what they hear in school and see on the adverts
This year will be very low key for us, Christmas meal with prob gammon for the carnivores of the house. About the 14 / 15th we'll go and pick our tree. We get a real one every year.
DS2 keeps looking at the Christmas films, roll on the 1st and it will all start. Still not sure how we can afford everything, so going to cut back on everything,we have to. We'll still have a good time though and laugh and joke with each other. From making christmas scrummy biscuits things to collecting things to decorate.
DS2 has been off and i've had a stern telling off by a friend who going through the same thing as me. I've been kicked up the backside and told people today i'm dropping out of a lot of things. My health is going down the pan. I haven't slept in over 72 hours because ds2 keeps choking on his own vomit. So far so good, no sick, but ds2 cough has gotten and has a totally blocked up nose.0
