kez-sorry you had crap time of it.

I do think age plays a part in it.

I think to my mum as kid skinny eating biscuits but as soon as she hot older hormonal problems, thyroid shes never been skinny again and moans loads and her sisters are similar but they see to have struggled more so than mum di and always seem to be on diet of some sort.

I also found it easier when younger to lose or maintain a weight.

My husband has never seen me superskinny hes seen pics.

Shortly after we got together went on injection and piles on weight.
since then struggled with various diets over last 10years.

Lost the most after baby no 1 when went back to work.

Think its easier to eat at home and winter people comfort eat more i go from one extreme to other.

just managed one crumpet, had 2ginger biscuits and a satsuma today so todays a good day

I wouldent advise anyone with eating disorders to diet as its too risky.

I do think crash diet work but people tend to put more weight back on.
As whenever you see anything about diets someone mentions starvation mode.

I also read really intresting post on current departent of health guidelines is 2000 calories per day for a women. Im sure this has gone up by 500calories. People posted and said everyone has their own specific calorie amount that they need and some would put on weight eating 2000calories so i guess must be down to metabolisms.
I did read eating little and often can increase metabolic rate but then then could lose the same or more than not eating if that was the case.

Its all very sciency and complicated and im not great at science.

What I do worry about is my girls. when i was growing up i dont think there was pressures that have now with whole zize 0 thing super models were bigger than they are now and these days image seems to count more than talent or hard work.

There are a few naturally skinny people but many need to work hard to maintain it. Seeing 30-40year old women with bodies like late teens early 20s think behind the glossy hair, fake tan they probably unhealthy unless they take vitamins to counteract the lack of food.

I also have crap tv tastes and watch obse year to save their life with very good looking jesse fella and most of them are in some way emotionally linked to food. An addict can give up drugs but a person cannot give up food temtations everywhere.Sae with biggest loser they some weeks lose extreme aounts of weight ainly due to being very large to start off with.

I never reached my target in sw as just got fed up gaining 1/2lb losing 1lb and its having the patiance .

sw once cracked can do cheaper as its all about the superfree which could be frozen or tinned its the snack products like alpen lite bars and fruit that bumped by foodbill up.Plus most stuff had to be cooked from scratch where as weighwatchers had readymeals. The people i used to go with not many kept it off or kept going was more of social thing for many in club I went too.

So much to catch up on and I know I will miss some that I wanted to mention. Re eating/not eating, a cautionary tale from me...

In the summer, I was trying to lose weight for health reasons and not eating much or wanting to eat much, due to the warm weather.

Long story short, I went for a routine health check and was picked up on an irregular heartbeat. I must admit I had felt a bit weird, extremities tingling, difficulty in sleeping.
The senior nurse looked at me and said 'HAVE YOU BEEN SKIPPING MEALS???'

Since then, I've made myself eat a small meal even when not hungry. I gained a little weight then lost it and some more.
I am going to exercise sessions soon after a chat with my doc last week about maintaining a sensible weight, but the difficulties of exercising with severe arthritis & cerebral palsy - hemiplegia - on top. He's given me a referral to an exercise programme run from the local leisure centre.
My trike is the only real exercise I get and it isn't possible to ride that for miles each day.
Currently my weight is stable, I'm eating quite small amounts but burning it off, though hopefully I will lose more fat once I start building a bit more muscle with gym sessions.

    Gailey,

Please don't take this as nagging but I'm kind of concerned. Is that all you've eaten today following a small supper of soup last night?

Even if you only need 1500 cals a day to keep a stable weight, a crumpet and butter is maybe 150 cals, satsuma 20 cals and 2 ginger biscuits is 70 cals -ish. This is only a sixth of what your body needs in terms of calories, maybe even less.

You really need to eat to keep your strength and stamina up. It's incredibly easy for women to start getting anaemic and it makes sense to avoid that happening by eating the right kind of varied diet with enough iron rich foods in sufficient quantity. Anaemia creeps up quietly, you just get used to being constantly tired and miserable and think it's normal but it isn't.

But the reduced numbers of staff added to the increased numbers of people in the system equals an imbalance, and those trying to manage the system are under extreme pressure to perform with reducing resources, which can create problems in itself.

Gailey, sorry for shouting but THAT ISN'T ENOUGH FOR AN EXTREMELY BUSY ADULT!! Have a think about buying some digestive biscuits for your snacks, as the wheatgerm is full of Vitamin B which is one of the mental health vitamins. Yes it's biscuits, but they are better for you (even the choccy ones! ;)). Also, do you eat Marmite, for the same Vit B help, or wheat-biscuit cereal like own-brand Weetabix? If you can't/don't do milk on cereal, one of those spread with butter/spread/jam is better for you both calorie-wise and vitamin-wise than a crumpet, honest!

As an aside, why is "calorie" not "calory"? Just wondered! :o

    Ah, a literacy question!
Exceptions to every rule I guess, Floss, including the "Consonant then y at the end of a word in singular changes to -ies in plural" rule!
My first thought was that the word was rarely used as a singular previously (one calorie foods being a recent thing,) so the technically incorrect spelling stuck.
However the word 'calorie' is of French origin so the French spelling was probably adopted for both singular and plural.

Well today has been a long one so far. I had to call the hospital as DD is still being sick, even with just water. The local doctors surgery in the village have been brilliant, I called and asked for some anti sickness medication. The doctor rang back personally within 5 mins and had the prescription sorted straight away. If these don't work by this evening were going back into hospital. Fingers crossed.....

I know I am really lucky with our doctors, we have 3 and the practice is in the village, along with a pub, hairdressers, post office and general store. We also have a farm shop. To see a doctor you add your name to the list in the morning and sit and wait. The afternoons are appointment only. We have nurses that do astmah, diabeties and children services.

Gailey, I wouldn't survive on that amount of food. I have shreddies for breakfast, and a sandwich for lunch. Tea is usually veg n meat.

Fuddle, me and OH often share bath water, I know this is probably tmi, but I get the tap end and he has the other and we sit n chat - both in the bath at the same time!!!! Sometimes its the only chance we get to talk, you know ships that pass in the night.......

Eldest DD has called she is having a blood blister type mole removed in hospital, its changed shape. See that's why the nhs is busy, my 2 are there.

So I have an eldest DD with a sore bum and youngest DD with a sore nose.

    take care x

    Afternoon all

Nutty - hope both DDs are on the mend soon.

Fuddle - great news on the FF, hope the move goes smoothly.

I finished my Christmas shopping this morning and I've wrapped it all! (Aside from the homemade presents which I've yet to start making!). It's nice to have got it done so early. Sore back now though from sitting at the table for so long with the sellotape (I did manage to watch some Christmas films whilst doing it though).

MIL called round after a hospital visit, she needs 2 new knees and has been told the wont do it until she's lost 3 stone, she's in agony bless her and isn't mobile enough to do any exercise. I don't want to be in that position in 30 years time, I need to start being a little bit more frugal with my portion sizes.

Really chilly here this morning, was 2 degrees when we took DD2 to school and it's down to the same now but really windy and boy is that wind cold! Heatings been on low this afternoon but will get a fire going in a mo.

    Evening toughies.

Nutty hope things settle for dd.

Gailey I am not adding to the food thing as my food habits are way worse than yours. And yes I have the problems associated.

Fuddle great news on moving things forward.

Didn't get to doctor. Dd is not helping at all so I am doing the roles of three people. Spoke to OH on phone he is trying to get late start tomorrow to get me free to go.

nuttyp sounds extremely sore, at least she's home with you now xx

well i have two more forms done oh yessssss
two more to go and were done, just in time for the end of course ones :rotfl:

well they came, i had words with them, i didn;t accept any of theys. Apparently they thought i was being snobby and the message was read as though it was for them. So i sked what part they had read, they said hello and went straight to the mentor bit, so in other words not all of it. I asked what name did they written, they reply none of our names were mentioned. I said exactly so how did you it was for you? They replied oh only by the end part and wanted me to show them the group whom the email was supposed to go to. So in other words they causing crap for nothing, said i had over stepped mark by phoning about and asking questions anyway I asked how when one of my other groups has nothing to do with them and i can't speak about the people involved as it is completely confidential. I said if you wish to take it further by all means i will provide you with the lead co-ordinators number who can verify the message but i would not allow them to see official papers.

they stepped back at that one. One of them said well i guess but still i had overstepped the mark, i relied no you are making a mountain out of a molehole. I also said i didn't appreciate dirty looks or made to feel guilty. I also said i would be stepping back and i would not be carrying the load, instead i said they going to have to pull they finger out and stop being megalomaniacs.

They were very shocked, i think i scared them. Then another said, we still want to be friends, i said fine but any nonsense and i will be leaving.

Well i'm finally in a nice warm house ahhhh heaven
