  • Kidcat and Pooky: I have a spare bedroom (only a single bed) and know two Mounties. One is married with two children and a very happy woman. The other is in his 50s, single, and a lovely if very fussy man (my son's godfather/adopted uncle). Unfortunately, he's in another province. We've been trying to find him a woman for years. He just says I broke his heart when I married and had kids.

Husband is home and napping in his recliner chair. He's glad it's done. Son is still away and he said not to expect him back until around 9pm.

Ever had a day that just got scuttled? Huge swing in the barometric pressure today and down I went. I get a sinus headache that turns into a migraine complete with vomiting. So I wound up spending four hours in a dark room with the Collie sleeping beside me. Still have the sinus headache but I can at least stand upright without wanting to vomit.

On a more cheerful note, it hasn't snowed and my son's gf has a job interview tomorrow.

We've had a talk with him about her but love is blind and we never listened at his age either. She's a nice girl but the wrong girl if you know what I mean?

Guess i'm not the only one!

I always liked what my aunties husband used, at the stroke of midnight he would grab a bottle and singing at the top of his voice, its my party and i'll shout if want to! now lets get lashed. Lets just say new year turned into a two day thing ahem :o
If we were all night he would gets free drinks for the rest of the night, one of the perks of having a new year birthday!

    £48 for a turkey :eek::eek::eek::eek:
Crikey that more than my xmas food budget

We will probably get a morrrions turkey leg, bit of gammon, but have to admit i prefer the trimmings.

The meats the sideshow, but then i'm weird. Give ds2 and myself lots of veg, mash, yorkies and roasties. Oh and not forgetting the gravy, ds2 can't stand gravy.

wondercollie i don't mind sleeping on the floor, bagsy the fire!

HI everyone, wow ive exceeded myself this morning already. Took DD to the bus stop on the edge of the village and then returned and started the housework. Washing in machine, all sorted again. Cleaned all the kitchen worktops, hovered and then quick wipe over of the bathroom. All sorted yay!!
We nipped to mr t to pick up the hot water dispenser last night, it arrived a day earlier than it was listed as. So well done mr t for a speedy delivery into store.

Today I am going with mum and eldest DD for a coffee and a catch up.

    Morning all :)

    ((((((((((((((shegar))))))))))))))

wondercollie I'm happy to sleep on the floor and I'm very good at cake :D

kidcat I really hope that you manage to get some more rest. If anyone deserves it, it's you. I wish there was something I could do to help. Take care of yourself please.

kezlou I hope you are feeling better today. Next time your DH does something like that whack him with your walking stick a few times and ask him how it feels. Glad the coffee morning went so well :)

DH has the whole of Christmas week off this year, so we are doing Christmas at home as that is what DS1 and DS2 wanted and then going down to see my DPIL probably after lunch on Boxing Day. I'm probably going to get one of L*dl's £9.99 turkeys and try brining it.
I've invited friends around for dinner on Christmas Eve so will cook a big ham. That's the tradition in DH's family as it is easy for DMIL to cook between all the church stuff that needs doing. DH plans on going to Midnight Mass, more out of a sense of tradition rather than a religious need.

I have an appointment to get new glasses using doubled up clubcard vouchers. I found out that it has been 4 1/2 years since I got this pair, so I think I'm entitled to some new ones. I'm really bad at doing stuff that is just for me, so I have had to force myself to do it.

My bag making mojo seems to have left me at the moment. I'm trying to make one for DMIL and everything is going wrong  I've unpicked the same seam about 4 times so far. I'm going to have a day off and have a go at stockings instead I think.

I'd better get on and see what the tumble drier is doing.

    Take care everyone xxxxxxxx

    help i'm drowning under paperwork!!!

Been putting it off and now i'm caving under it all.
Spent the whole morning doing business things, blurgh

So far tomorrow i've completed two invoices, been phoning two tenants up to arrange safety certificates.
sorted the collection and fixing of a core drill. Written out safety cert's. Emailed clients and been trying to get in touch with Ideal to confirm a fiver year warranty.

Still have masses to do but its a chunk off i hope off the little to do list.

Housework, waiting for washer to finish the load so i can shot it on the line. hoovered and sorted out most of the front. The part thats left is the paperwork mountain :(

I'm shattered now, so going to have a cuppa and make some lunch ready for when i crack on with receipts.

sdg sounds like a lovely christmas :D enjoy it!

Deja vu here. Wrangling over poor communication with my letting agent. We've been out of the house for 1 week (did I tell you we ha to do our own checkout with LL as they had no clerk arranged and LL followed us to office to blast 'em for their lack of what they are paid to do?) we've had no contact all week... I don't know what the clerk reported on Wednesday when she came, I have had no call regarding the wrongly posted CCJ letters (too much to ask for an explanation let alone an apology?) we don't know when we will get out deposit back or even if the LL's want to dispute anything (not likely as they checked us out commenting on how immaculate it was!)

Instead of dealing with the office I've gone to complaints. Hopefully someone will investigate it all on my behalf and get back to me with some answers.

I'm struggling with MIL at the moment. She's a very kind person but she as to be a martyr about every thing. She enjoys a wholier than thou comment and cannot refrain from telling me I'm only playing at OS because its fashionable - she likens me to one of those very expensive kitchen aids... Pretty as on the surface seems practical but actually 'bludy useless' when it gets down to it, all based upon my putting my eggs and milk in before the flour when making yorkshires because a true OS housewife would put the flour in first and make a well.

I have to be so strong as not to bite but I did say to her that I haven't been able to watch the old fashioned way of doing things and that when you learn via the Internet it's probably lost in translation. If in honest I feel like a downtrodden housewife one minute and a kid the next.

At what age in life are we respected for our experience... not 34 it seems.

I make canny good yorkshires too :( oh I could go on but I won't because that's not fair. She must be demented with all us in her space.

There's hints that they are not coming down with us now which means I will have to drive the micra down but to be honest I am dealing with a much more difficult driving experience in 'rush' (stand still!) traffic on the A19 to get the girls to school! Ill be fine and secretly it means our first night in our new home will be just us and that'll be special (if not hectic) ;)

    All is well. :)
  • I have a confession to make here FUDS I always have put the milk and egg in first and given it a whisk before I add in the flour and I've never had a faliure with yorkshires in all the years I've been making them. I don't think with most things that there is a 'right' way that must be adhered to, it's usually what works best for you!!! The way to make good yorkies that really rise up is to make sure that the oven is really hot before you put the pan in with the fat to cook then, and to make sure that the fat is smoking hot before you put the batter in, never fails!!! Just remember this is only for a couple more weeks and then you'll have your own kitchen in your own home and no one to tell you that you're doing it wrong either, patience is a virtue, I hope you're feeling virtuous today little one, deep breath and......... Lyn xxx.

aw fuddle you are a saint!!

yep my MIL and FIL are the same, even though they can't cook :mad:

what a nightmare, that letting agents are blooming useless. They won't want to give the money back as it eats into they profits:(

Oh and my mum and nana harker (who went through 2 worlds wars) did egg and milk first then flour!!!
how more old style do you want ;)

aha! I'm grinning. Tell you though it was worth mentioning because I don't heat the oven before I add the fat, I will from now on ;)

At least this time Kez I'm dealing with an agent with a complaints department and not a bullish landlord. I think I'll try and keep this house I'm renting just to avoid the deposit stress!
