thanks nutty for boots suggestions. I haven't bought any for years due to cost but have no sturdy shoes for winter and the hems of my jeans keep getting wet in rain so I have caved in. Want to be snug this year! Let you know how I get on

Sq - I've got wide calves too but found a lovely pair of boots in Mr A, they are mid calf, with a zip up the inside, hidden elastic acted bits and part leather. I was amazed to be able to zip them up but they are so comfy. £45 though :(

I popped into LidI for my turkey crown and they had an enamelled cast iron frying pan (nice and deep) for £15 - it's gorgeous (if you can call cookware gorgeous....yes you can!) it will replace my old cast iron pan which has really seen better days. I also found a tea percolator, same idea as a coffee one but a nice round teapot/kettle shape clear glass jug. You pop a couple of tea bags in the top and it boils and brews 8 cups (4 mugs) of tea.....pop the tea bags out of the little brewing chamber and it will keep the tea hot! (you need to pop the Teabags out or it will rebrew it - Blugh). It's low wattage so saves popping the kettle on every couple of hours (I've tried the flask method but it doesn't stay hot enough for me). I'm so pleased with it....I do love a cup of tea :)

  • Hey PX87 well done pet, they say the longest journey starts with the first step don't they? well first step to debt clearance is well and truly taken, I'll bet you're happy, happy, happy pet and justifiably so!!!

NUTTY glad they are going to rota you so as not to have to work alongside the 'iffy' colleague, it sounds as though they're looking after your interests lovie, as they should, but it will make your life less fraught if they can manage it won't it?

SQ well found on the nice warm coat at such a good price, thank goodness you're going to be warm this winter, well done.

POOKY that is a really good price for a cast iron frying pan, well found and yes cast iron cookware IS georgeous!!!

    Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Morning/evening. It's quiet here today. Husband is off for his final Nov. 11th as a member of the Air Force. Oldest son is off to a ceremony in a nearby farm town (he's a Combat Engineer). Spouse said he'll be back as fast as he can because he hates drinking and doesn't like explaining his medals to people. He's out retiring after a lifetime in the spring. He thought he'd done 42 years but his discharge papers are saying 44. He forgot he joined the Reserves (I guess your TA) in high school and they counted that service into his retirement.

Youngest son is at work, he found a job in the pre-Christmas hiring blitz and is doing a shift for a coworker so she can go to the parades to watch her husband.

I'm working up to taking dog out. It's -14 and the windchill is taking it down to -18. So frostbite warnings all around. My son wore his muskrat hat and took his beret because unless everyone in his unit brings the muskrat he can't wear it on parade. He looks like he's escaped from the Russian Army being a 6ft blue eyed blond.

Shegar - i still miss my tubby old cat and he's been gone 3 years, we've moved house since but I still expect to see him.

DD2 was sent home from school again with chest spasms, she then proceeded to have a massive panic attack in the car on the way home, 2 hours later shed calmed down enough to speak. She's seen the GP who wasn't helpful, just upped the pills! I'm all wrung out now, I hate seeing her panic like that. She'll be asleep before long as it always wears her out.

How much is is turkey then??? We used to get a local organic turkey crown (it was huge and fully dressed) from the local butchers for £45 but I'm more than happy with the LidI frozen turkey crown for a tenner now.

  • We're not having turkey, we never do as He Who Knows doesn't like 'bird' of any description so we're going over to my lovely local farm butchery and buying a nice big piece of beef to roast and I'll expect to pay £30ish for it but that will do the four of us for lunch on Christmas day, Boxing day and cold cuts for sandwiches too, anything left after that will either be a curry or a pie with gravy and puff pastry so although the initial outlay might look like a lot, it's going to stretch a nice long way so worth doing in my mind, Lyn xxx.
