Kidcat, I'm nowhere near a Mr T with a opticians. It's kind of handy having them in town, as I wear contacts too, so at least I can go collect them. Was a bit of a blow though. We lost our NHS card last year (goodness knows why - we are worse off than ever!) so this was the first time I've paid in full for some time. I pay for my contacts by monthy debit, so that spreads the cost of that.

Fuddle. You do what you have to. At least you acted responsibly. Plenty of people just move and leave the dog behind. Can't tell you how many tales of that I've heard of  and they don't always find out in time...

Fuddle - losing Alfie must be devastating for you all but you made the right choice based on the circumstances. I wouldn't expect anyone to judge you for doing that.
Have you found a local school for the girls? I bet they're excited about the move.

Kidkat - take it easy with your back! (easier said than done I know).

Ginny - how's your ripple doing? I'm expecting it to be 20ft long by now ;)

Deb - Glad I'm not the only one. DD has an 8hr per week contract but normally does at least 16 hours, she gets paid every 4 weeks and as soon as she gets paid she transfers a set amount over to us (based on her 8hour week) we keep 1/3 of it towards her "keep" and petrol costs to get her to and from work and the rest is put in her long term savings account. If she's done a lot of overtime she pops an extra £50 in the savings straight away. She's getting really good at budgeting for the entire month and hasnt yet asked to borrow any back from her savings. She's doing far better than I was at that age. I worked full time from the age of 16, got paid weekly, handed over my "keep" and spent the rest that weekend :)

Your feeling ashamed saddens me - at what point did we become judge, jury and executioner?
This thread exists for the benefit and support of all, even if we may not personally agree with all situations.
Everybody should be able to feel they can come here and share their pain and receive comfort, support and hopefully some advice, and the same for joy, someone apologised for sharing joy last week??
Life is a long hard road, and each of us walks a different path, we are so fortunate here as whilst we have always walked separate paths, we have had the chance to hold hands and help each over over the hilly bits.
Personally you have all supported me through so much, I can never put into words what you have done for me and my family - I just hope I am able to give a small portion of that back.

    Nothing to apologise for, honest.

Has anyone ever considered why someone might need to buy gadgets and talk about them, fill their days with trips (mainly on their own), worry that they are being hounded out of their lifetime home, that their neighbours are are taking advantage, that the future is a frightening place? Rather than judge, perhaps a bit of time considering what we have in our lives we should be grateful for, that other people don't have, would make us all a bit more forgiving.
