Thanks for the corned beef pie ideas - I remember now it had onion in it but no veg, maybe there was mash, I'm not sure. I will have to experiment, it doesn't have to be exactly like my Grandma's anyway. Think I will have a go at the weekend.
I like cooking when I'm not really tired or haven't anything planned and can't think what to cook or have to cook in a rush (so that must be 50% of the time!)
Burtha, if you are reading along, hope you are ok, we are thinking of you lots.
Kidcat - hope you feel better soon - you are right to keep your appointment and make sure you tell the nurse how ill you feel.
I'm off for repeat blood tests tomorrow, see what my hormones are up to (been behaving a lot better lately, DH will appreciate that). Forgot to book them at the GPs so will have to brave the hospital car park and waiting room. At least no fasting so will be able to concentrate on getting into probably the only car space left that seems strangely smaller than all the rest ha ha !
talking of DH... he's just come in from college and straight to the football.... expecting shouting too!!

Rock Eel was my absolute favourite as a kid. No-one outside my family seems to have heard of it? Rock and chips was the only type of takeaway we ever had and even then it was a rare and lovely treat. I loved the bone but never thought to crunch it - the idea makes me feel a little queasy tbh _pale_!
BTW what on earth is Strangled Eggs? I haven't heard of any of the unusually named dishes mentioned before!

UUmm err cider making when vicars are visiting?? There will be a positive avalanche of prospective vicars!!
In that case, maybe a particularly 'aromatic' chutney-making session that makes them think the place will smell like that forever?
Or just apple-juice making (I've been practising. I have gallons of the stuff).0 -
SQ - are you an Essex girl like me? I think Rock and Chips is a very London thing - I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing it in chip shops outside the SE. It is very interesting how different fish is popular in different parts of the country, and some places just have 'fish' :rotfl:.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Strangled eggs are scrambled eggs - dds always insisted on the term since being small!
Managed to pick up two sets of new variofocals today and also got dd a flu jab so me , DH and her are now sorted.
Made a huge pot of veg, chicken and pasta soup and chicken curry for tonight. Leftovers for tomorrow and sausage, mash and green veg for tea.
DH looking forward to new big shed arriving this week and keeps
insisting hospital treatment has not made him tired or weak etc!! At least he has something to keep him occupied and take his mind off things.

I have always bruised easily and heavens knows what people thought! Good luck with the pointy sticks (sounds like Buffy!)
I reckon I could do a bit of damage with a rolling pin and cast iron skillet!"This site is addictive!"

Hi...sorry for the late reply just trying to get my head around today...it took ages at the hospital, another long day,..result I have a brain tumor but it is in a good place , behind my eye attached to my skull, have to re do mri scan in 6mth time , then depending on size and symptoms I have , if they operate they go through my head, via making a cat flap where my temple is , cut through skull, move my brain out to the side, remove tumor, then replace brain, fix skull with screws, hopefully not causing to much damage, may at best leave me with no hearing on one side and movement problems,..but hey ho..its a good place because it is in the most nonessential part of the brain ..so 6mth then if no change repeat 6mth ect...happy yes, dh and family happy , wish it wasnt there yes, but have 6mth of normal life before I need / may need treatment ...absolutely shattered, and still in pain , but just need to get on, booked for physio for tomorrow , dh probably thinks I am mad cause I went to pta meeting tonight ...hope this post makes sense. ? Oh burtha hugs - am so pleased for you, that you are happy, rest well tonight and thank you for letting us all know x0

Burtha, that is the best news! OK so you have a tumour, but it sounds like it is very treatable if treatment is needed at all - many people live for years with a tumour that does nothing. At least you know what is going on in your head - some of us are not sure there is anything in there at all :rotfl:.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
