MONNAGRAN good words of advice from Mrs L. It also works the other way, if you are viewing another Manse you may be able to judge how active the parish is.

Yes please Lyn! By the way - had a Pork Joint for last Sunday's dinner from Wickham (they're a bit off the beaten track ar'n't they??) & lamb chops this Sunday as there were just the two of us. A bit dearer than the Smarket but worth every penny - REALLY delish & tender. Thank you for the recommendation

  • SS It's a little way out of the village isn't it but it's a lovely little place and the quality of the meat is superb, I'm glad you found it and enjoyed the meat!!!

    Pear Chutney

    3 1/2 lbs of pears
1 1/2 lbs of brown sugar
    2 oranges
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon of ground cloves
    1 teaspoon of ground allspice
    12 oz of sultanas
    1/2 pint of malt vinegar

Peel core and chop the pears and put in a pan with the sugar. Grate the rind from the orange and add that with the juice and all the rest of the ingredients, bring it up to the boil and then simmer it slowly for 2 hours. Pot up in sterlilzed hot jars and seal.

It has the most wonderful aroma when it's being cooked, hope you enjoy it, Lyn xxx.

I'm in here while I'm "cooking dinner" aka watching Despicable Me while eating Smoky bacon crisps. The oven is heating up and that's my excuse.

I love cooking most of the time, but sometimes it just seems like drudgery and I get sick of it. As I too love eating it's one of those things that has to be done. If it was left to DH then we would live on takeaways, sausages and frozen pizza and there wouldn't be a vegetable in sight unless it was battered and deep fried. If I ever get seriously ill then I'm moving in with my in laws just so I'd get fed and watered on a semi regular basis.

I hope no news is good news burtha xxx

We also have Strangled Eggs & my schools jam suet roll was Dead Mans Leg...Boiled Baby was a meat pudden where I lived :) My mum used to make minced beef plate pie for picnics with tinned minced beef & shortcrust. Scrummy with h/g toms & a hard boiled egg, sitting on the back seat with my brothers in a layby on the old road from Ripon to the A1 :D

Monnogran, do you have long to find the Revs next parish, I can't remember :o

More worries...well I hope not...I awoke to find a note from my neighbour that her passage has been flooded with raw sewage and seeped under laminate flooring and she's had to throw out carpeting and they want to know who is to blame as the persons responsible should replace and pay for the cost.

This assumes I am to blame especially as I called the water people out and they assume I was the cause of the blockage.

But it turns out if the other neighbours(at least 5 properties)knew there was a blockage the water company told me that they should have called them out and sooner. That I should have nothing to worry about.

That I could have called them out myself instead of my landlord but I did what I thought was the right procedure calling their repair service who came out yesterday morning then passed it onto the water company who came out within four hours of them being informed.

They were only with me a few minutes and spent more time further down the street where we did not even know of a blockage.

I have contents insurance but not building insurance so I assume I am covered by the insurance my Landlord has on its properties.

The Water Company says I do not need to inform my landlord as it was their responsibility to clear the drains and there are all kinds of reasons a drain can be blocked and where its often not any particular person to blame.

I do know there have not been any blockages until they moved in and had a conservatory built(he's a builder)and I know he did something with a drainpipe not long after moving in(could that have something to do with it)who knows?

I do know they changed their back garden and added more paving tiles and removed a lot of the lawn etc...that probably hasn't helped either.

    Always something to worry.

Aww Pops what awful neighbours you have. Sneakily posting a note through your door rather than asking you to your face if you knew what had caused it.

We live at the end of a very long, shared drive and a couple years ago we had a blockage.

I thought the DGD had been throwing toys down the loo again as it wouldn't flush :o

After checking the loo, then drains, we found a blockage that big it had a life of it's own.

Of course it was dark as all these events happen when it's dark, cold and I'm in my jim jams. The water board must see some sights in their line of work.

A long story short it took three hours to sort as we are on a new housing estate and some pilchard forgot to give a map of ALL the drains to the water company so only half ever get serviced.

The neighbours never came out, not a flaming one, but the next morning they were straight over telling me how their toilets had not been flushing properly for weeks. One lady had a back stench coming from her en suite so she moved to the back bedroom

It makes you wonder if it would take a floating turd to disturb lifeenders on the box to get some people to sort things out themselves rather than wait for someone else to sort it out.

Two of the neighbours are teachers, the rest fix planes :eek::eek:
