That sounds about right Mrs LW, I just couldn't describe it very well! I will give it a go, sounds delish :p.

Cutestkids: Thanks for the apple butter recipe. Everyone, but everyone here has a bumper crop of apples and I have several sacks of them in my porch. I was getting rather desperate as I usually stew quite a lot and freeze them for winter puddings. However - no freezer space. Now I can make apple butter and store it in jars. You've opened up a new window on my world!

Still going through the ministerial posts on offer. I do want to stay in the south as I can't bear the thought of being too far away from the family. There are several nice sounding places but as I said, I am aware of 'Estate Agent Speak'.

Have also just realised that the Rev's post is also up for grabs and any prospective minister will be wanting to look over the manse. Starting from the begining of November. HELP!:eek::eek:

The upstairs rooms are full of all my hobby stuff, ironing, the Rev's display stuff, reams and reams of paper waiting to be sorted, Christmas stuff ready for ..well..Christmas...............
The downstairs rooms are full of loads of churches' harvest festival produce for the Drop-in, loads of winter clothes, sleeping bags, duvets, blankets, tents etc also for the Drop-in, Stuff on its way out to the garage, stuff on its way in from the garage, half made bunting for the wedding....and I really will fall on my sword.

Am about to tackle the Cupboard of Doom trying to make a space for some of the stuff. It would be good to let the prospective minister have some clear floor to walk on.
    I may be some time.

I am troubled about burtha today, she has been on my mind all day. Hope she is OK.

I hope you enjoy it, the biggest problem I have is keeping the kids out of it one thought he would just have a bowl of it for pudding yesterday.

MONNAGRAN if prospective Ministers do come round they'll see the reality of life and if you have 'life' in all your rooms because you're so busy dealing with church and related things as well as the Drop In Centre let them look, they are supposedly christians after all. It will give an idea of how active the parish business is and how much of your and the Revs time it takes up, don't appologise to anyone for anything pet, and don't fuss over the manse and don't let anyone visiting get away with a single adverse word, it's your home at the moment and they just don't have the right to be critical!!! Hope you and the Rev can find a lovely parish with warm and loving parishoners in a comfortable and friendly place, you both deserve it, Love Lyn xxx.

    Monnagran - I echo Mrs LW's words!

Been feeling a bit dreary like the weather this week so haven't posted. Today though weather has been better as have I, both emotionally and physically (and I guess the two are linked!) |W ished I had got my act together to get the towels out :(.

Visited another secondary school with a friend - realise how many I haven't visited and won't have to time to see them all before half term. Still we have this time next year to repeat the process before the forms need to be in. Feeling less panicky about secondary school options as I am doing something practical - lots of research!

Ended up going for lunch with my friend who wanted to treat me (as I bought her some goodies from the bakers last week) but the bill was more than I was prepared to let her pay so we went halves. We talked until school pick-up! She is the only person in RL who really gets me at the moment and she is going through "stuff" herself so we are well matched at the moment! I really needed to have a day out of the house as I have been hermit like most of the last fortnight.

Made an enormous veggie stuffed shepherds pie (call it shepherds but made with beef so a cottage really) for last night's dinner so guess what we are having for dinner/DH for college meal today? and still some in the freezer. Lovely not to have to cook tonight even if boys will grumble having the same meal two nights in a row.

Thinking ahead to end of school half term with Harvest Festival and Parents' Eve coming up as well as school holiday and Halloween/Guy Fawkes Night fun. Boys are bored at the moment as we have been in so much so hoping to make their school break fun.

Talk of cobblers, dumplings etc mmmmm running out of inspiration cooking wise lately so will try some of these out again, perfect for the colder weather.

    sq:)

Just had a thought... my Grandma who lived in NE used to make corned beef pie and I would like to have a go at making one. I used to adore her pies. Any idea what to add to the corned beef for the filling? I have only made a couple of pies before to a recipe and not with corned beef so not confident.

    sq :)
  • SQ you can actually make a nice meal with a roasted tin of corned beef too. It's one of the wartime recipes I really look forward to making and all you do is take the meat out of the tin, chop up fresh parsley and other fresh herbs if you've got them, what you use is up to you, roll the corned beef in the herbs to coat it on all sides and roast it in a moderate oven, 160 deg fan/180 deg normal oven for about 30 minutes and serve it with the normal accompaniments to a roast dinner, it's lovely and if there is any left over it's nice next day cold on toast or in a sandwich. For corned beef pie I'd add in some finely chopped onion, some grated carrot and maybe some cooked frozen peas and then top it with either pastry or mashed potato either is nice, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Ooooh - all this talk about lovely old style cooking. I love the names they get called - Snake & Pygmy, Dead Mans Leg. We have Strangled Egg in our house!
Thanks for the Apple Butter recipe Cutest - I've been given some pears & I was wondering what to do with them. Just gives me a good excuse to get the slow cooker down ;)
We get Huss or Dutch Eel here - its actually Dogfish & I love it 'cos its meaty & only has one bone! I did think that it was the same as Rock Salmon in other parts of the country but perhaps not.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • SILVASAVA I've got a lovely pear chutney recipe if you'd like it, Lyn xxx.
