Firstly my thoughts are with Burtha,
I have kind of friends I now know(Ok mostly older than myself)and one of those is not facing what Burtha is but is in for heart problems(there was talk of a pacemaker)but they are looking into other causes...so anything to do with anything other than a broken leg(you know what I mean)internally is scary.
Thanks for the advice about the drains Kezlou and Greenbee I appreciate it x
The way the water company talked to me today, they more or less put my mind at rest and said don't worry, I think they are looking for someone to blame. Also as said how do you prove whose sewage belongs to who.
Me shopping at 7am? Still I have shopped at 1am before so...
Never would've before losing Mum...Quick shop today they had "Finest" bread with discount so got a wholemeal and a Pumpkin seed loaf. Some rolls(I want a bacon roll, that was the plan but now)I an thinking of having that meal I mentioned earlier.
There were some Finest brand oven chips selling as cheap as McCains too. Also purchased some corned Beef, spring onions/mixed salad so that should keep me going for a while.
If I'm talking about food I'm back to normal:rotfl:
Until like where Pooky is, here the weather is cold, wet and the sky is dark.
Going to pop out to the bank and put a small deposit into the account to cover any direct debits that are due to come out.
Then I guess I'll take it easy...can't do a big trip this week because things are on in the evenings, music club, local concert, bingo and then a talk and musical evening with Paul Jones of Manfred Mann(Radio 2 DJ)and his wife.
If I go to the light show at that park I'll wait for a weekday when it may be less busy. Its nice to have something to occupy the mind."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Oh Pops! Sounds like a game of pass the blame and I've never found that game very fun. I do know I was told that if the blockage is on private property it is the owner of the property's responsibility. If it is under a road, in an alley way etc. it is the water company's responsibility. If the problem was made worse by someone failing to report it, then that has nothing to do with you. Stay strong Pops, it sounds as if you have done everything you should have! Those with the sewage are probably frustrated and angry (and perhaps rightfully so) but that is no excuse to blame you!
Plumber is here so I'm having a cup of tea as I know as soon as I get back to work he'll need something.:rotfl:0 -
Morning all. The weather is grey, damp and depressing and I feel a bit like that myself as am coughing, sneezing and just crawling around with a thunking bad head.:(
Was going to go to meeting at church this afternoon but don't think will bother now, don't really want to pass this cold on. So will probably spend the day on my crochet - am making bags, scarves and other little bit for our Church Fair in November.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Burtha, hope the news is better than you expect.
Pops, hope you get things sorted re blocked drains. I don't know much about the legal side of things but your neighbours must surely bear some responsibility for not reporting it sooner.
Ginny have a good time at Beamish. We used to go quite a lot when the boys were young but I haven't been for years now.
The kettle is calling - as I've got cold I believe am entitled to a little brandy in my coffee - for medicinal purposes only you understand.:rotfl::rotfl:Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -

Lovely and sunny here today, we peeled 6 kilos of pickling onions and put them into a brine soak yesterday so I'll be potting them up today ready for christmas. I always make a few jars with sweet vinegar and spice them up with home grown chillis and I got asked for a couple of jars from various friends in the village so I'll make some extras to give away. I love the end product, but hate how my hands smell at the moment, and you just have to let time remove the onion pong, I've never found anything effective in getting rid of it!!! Have a good one all, Cheers Lyn xxx.
My gran used swear by rubbing your hands on something stainless steel to get rid of the smell of onions and garlic, in fact I saw in lakeland a few months back a stainless steel stone, for just that purpose.

Custest kids--that does work! I use a spoon, usually. Of course that is no cure if you've been eating the onions and garlic--now be honest Mrs. LW, have you been sneaking a taste now and then?0

No chance FPK, I'm all onioned out, and they won't be edible until Christmas anyway!!! I'm off to the greenhouse to pick some nice fresh chillis to go in with them, we've grown 3 different types this year so each jar can have one of each type in it, it's very good too!!!0

Did you see there is an old book of remedies up for auction(something like 300 years old)and it suggests putting bread in your ear to cure earache:eek:"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

POPS I know way back they put a warm small part cooked onion in the outside gap in the ear for earache and although it sounds strange, it would have fitted and the warmth would have helped sooth the pain. and I've heard of hot outside of the cabbage leaves held against the cheek for toothache, I'm slightly more sceptical about that though, but perhaps the warmth helped there? I've heard of cabbage leaves for problems with feeding infants--I can't remember if it was mastitetis (sp?) or low milk flow, but some contemporary doc was telling women to put them in their bras! And you thought your onion hands were a bit whiffy!0
