I can't remember anything positive from being cold during my childhood. Like you I remember the frost on the windows and lying in bed freezing cold. My parents still live in similar conditions and it is a never-ending worry in winter as they have no insulation. I always laugh because the birds line up on the windowsill at the living room window (metal frames) when they have the fire burning - my parents think they are tame - but really the birds are just keeping warm as all the heat escapes out:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I don't know how old your parents are, but there are grants available for upgrading insulation, heating for people on a low income/pension etc, might be worth a look.

Morning everyone, I remember growing up with ice on the windows inside and out!! We had a quilt and a blanket on the bed. Infact in the winter I still do this. We have central heating, but I never leave it on in the night, instead we set the timer to come on about 20mins before we get up.

Im in agony today, I have kidney stones and they are on the move again. My lower back aches like mad, and every so often it goes into spasm. I have some tablets, but I have work later. SO I cant take them before work. OH is going to drive me in, so that's one less thing to worry about.

Its pouring with rain, and high winds here - took newspaper to my mum and said not to venture out. Checked on elderly lady next door she is ok too.

Need to get uniform on for work, take care everyone x

I'm looking for something and wonder if anybody on here can help..
I saw a sheepskin mattress cover in a shop in Edinburgh somewhere, it goes either under or on top of the bottom sheet I think , and it's real wool not synthetic. What would I search under for this? And where?
  • Morning.

Inlaws are visiting for the first time in two years today and guess what rain does to dogs ??? especially when you have four ??? yep stinky flaming kitchen :rotfl::rotfl:

"oh their house stinks" "she never cleans up" "oh what a farmyard" blah blah blah

I saw similar when we were in Wales during the summer, and again in the Cotswolds, I remember looking and thinking oooh DS15 would love that, but not buying because it was so hot.

Both shops were independant stores and big on walking type clothes type of things, so maybe look in that type of store - possibly Edinburgh Woollen Mill??

PIC - my parents do that to me - well they used to, but we dont see them so much now, would always choose to arrive right as I was cooking dinner, doing homework and reading, sorting the washing and then comment on the state of the place.
The way I now look at it, is its their loss :)

I had a moment the other day, it was DD19 birthday and we were driving home, having done the safari park and dinner out, littlies had gone with OH in the little car and I had the elder two with me, and we were all having a really good laugh and joking, really enjoying ourselves, we walked into the house laughing - and it hit me, I can never ever remember a time I had moments like that with my parents at all. I have memories of times with my grandparents, my uncles and aunts but not once with my parents.

We are a poorly house today, DD7 has been fighting a bug all week, no voice for most of it but she has still gone to school she is coughing really badly, DS9 has a cough as well and was as the teacher said when I picked him up - definitely not himself - much too quiet! DD19 is terrified of getting ill as she cant afford to miss Uni at all, but has definitely got sniffles today. ANd I am full of it too, I was supposed to take the kids to see Blackpool lights last night but just couldnt face it, so collected DD from uni and came home instead.

OH has gone to work, and I rather naively assumed that when he came in from work last night and saw how poorly we were, that he would spend half an hour getting the kitchen and dining room into order for me and maybe even hoover. No such luck, I got up to a bomb site this morning and the eldest two are having to carry out the hoovering while I tackle dishes etc.
  • MAR, Amazon have one but it is out of stock, there is a New Zealand company Sheepskins Plus.com advertising one and an english company The Wool Company.Co.uk who are advertisdion a Merino Wool Mattress Cover if that might do instead, worth a look ? Lyn xxx.

Hi, our MIL rang to ask if we all wanted join them for a meal to celebrate 50 years of their marriage. We would have said yes, but FIL hasn't spoken to OH or in fact any of us in over 15 years. He even went into the salon DD works and asked if 'that' was in - meaning DD and she works upstairs in the beauty room. When the lady said yes, he demanded that she was kept out of his way. Luckily DD boss is well aware of the problems with him, and took DD a drink up and said he was I and being horrible. She told him he could go else where if he wanted!!

Families hey, you can pick your friends but not your family. OH's is something out of a Jeremy kyle show. The thing is they all seem to be jelous of each other. I dot go to any event other than his sisters, basically she is the only one who isn't bothered what you do.

I took my painkillers and now I have pins n needles in my nose!! Its so strange, made no difference to my kidneys but it takes my mindof them a bit. OH has said if its not better tomorrow hes taking me to the drop in clinic, incase its an infection - I did say I would go Monday.

Rain stopped as soon as I put the washing in the dryer, and it was nearly dry. annoying....

    Take care x

    Hello everyone,

I haven't been on here for a couple of days and trying to catch up, few pages to go still!

Thanks for the enquires about my back - getting there slowly but a case of two steps forward, one step back but onwards and upwards all the way eh?

Thanks also for sewing comments. Kidcat - boys' school are rubbish at after school/lunch clubs, not a single one running at the moment so very doubtful they would set a sewing one up, shame :(. My sewing skills are too basic at the mo to offer myself but will try and teach boys to sew buttons on etc and do basic mending at least.

Nutty glad you got through your hearing, sorry they had to follow the "procedure" so strictly but glad you were able to give your side with difficulties with your colleague at least. Glad you are drawing a line under it and move forwards. Very proud of the way you have handled the whole work situation. :)

Burtha - :) welcome to our on-line family. Well done for sharing so openly and look forward to hearing more from you. Sending you huge hugs and positive thoughts. Stay strong and we will be strong with you on the more challenging days to hold your hand.

Off to heat some soup then back to read some more pages. I am nursing the beginnings of a cold and my back is aching lots after going out yesterday. Wrapped up in a cosy fleece and the sun is shining despite rainy forecast.

    sq:)
