CC thanks for telling us about Anne McCaffrey passing away, I'd not seen anything in the papers or heard anything on the TV about it. She was a very talented lady and will be sadly missed by her fans, Lyn xxx.0

:hello:Hi All - been MIA for quite some time, now trying to catch up with you all (think I've got at least a week's reading to do!) Pleased to see all the 'regulars' are still here.
Mrs L Oh, I was sorry to hear that Anne McCaffrey had died - DH is a great fan along with David Eddings & Raymond Feist & Robin Hill. He keeps all his books but I pass mine on when I've read them - but I'm into crime novels, Michael Connolly, Lee Child, Ian Rankin etc. I do intersperse them with 'lighter' stuff. I read 'The Woman who went to bed for a year' quite funny & I could see where she was coming from (don't know what that say's about me!)If you like 'quirky' stuff try 'A History of Tractors in the Ukraine & Two Caravans - I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them.
All the best to all you Toughies - you're all such a great bunch :grouphug:Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Hi SILVASAVA how is you niece getting on? I hope shes made a good recovery from the stroke and now living a relatively normal life again? Pushkin sends his regards to Pushkin!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

OMG Im so tired. I've got still got a couple of things to do for tomorrow, but DS is making some food first. (leftovers!) Then off to bed. Even if I get up early to finish off I think that will be better.
I made rice pudding, but its been cooking all day, and it's still not thick? How very odd. I've just bunged some more rice in, I'm sure I measured it right. Never mind, i stuck it in the rayburn it can cook all night and if its OK the family can eat it. I'll try again next week, my rice puds were a good seller last year, I put something in them like so cinammon/apple or caramel or a peach/mango puree!
The dogs are really hungry tonight? I've just had to feed them again :O

KATE how old is your rice? I know that if dried beans are too old they don't take up the liquid so readily and never seem to cook, could that be what is happening with the rice? Lyn xxx.0

It's been 2 weeks since i was signed off work, and it has helped me come to a descion, i have arranged to meet my manager next week to look at taking a few months unpaid leave, i will never have this time with my dh again. So need to make the most of it, and certainly as he deteriates more ican care for him. It will mean tignting 8ur belts a lot, but there are the savings there and no work eexpenses ok and no wages, could claim CA but that's not much a week.
We will survive, I will survive...... X
CC t.b.h. I think you're making the decision that is right for you two. My mum took time off when my dad was diagnosed with his last cancer so she could care for him in 1991 and my employers gave me paid time off to be with him. Then me & the youngest of my 3 brothers both did the same when mum had her last cancer diagnosed in 2005. It is precious time for you both, and you will always treasure it. Don't worry about tight belts - this period in your lives will be absolutely priceless and worth every financial sacrifice.
Have had a bit of an exciting day today - got some news about something that we had thought wasn't going to happen but it is and although it will be costly it will be worth it when I get my bakey cakey thing going....will tell all when its past the point of no return...:p
Busy day in work tomorrow, and as I didn't sleep well last night or Friday night (was ironing at 5.30am on Saturday ) I'm off to snuggle under my duvet - DH is away till the weekend so I have the kingsize bed to myself this week...bliss!0 -
Anne McCaffrey died in 2011, she was 85 and her publisher had brought her son in for her later years - as is the case with most of these partnerships, she was the name and he was doing virtually all the writing.0

Oh my I am watching the Jamie Oliver money savers program and am astounded, one man and his daughter are spending £750 a month on food shopping, I am speechless0

Ginny, thanks for the helpful comments - very few people I know have the same opinion as thee and me! My babies won't be babies much longer and who knows how much time we have with mum as she is.
