Mrs LW I love you! No more blanching and kitchens filled with steam.
Yes, the lovely man survived. He is a darling who walks with two sticks but does the most amazing amount of things. last month he weeded the front of the church - between the paving stones - while leaning heavily on his sticks. He produces amazing stuff from his garden and is always cheery. He just loves the Rev and at this time of the year makes a weekly pilgrimage to the manse with flowers, fruit and veg. Salt of the earth.

What a star, I'm glad he lived to grow more beans, flowers too? A rare and precious being, cherish him, do not ever refuse bags of beans from this man, even if you have got to the point of despair we all get to at the end of the bean season, smile and love him more than you do already!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Hi everyone...delurking to mention the school uniforms...
Did you know that tesco sell their school clothes online, and if your school is registered with them, they will embroider the logo on the items?
This is a link..http://www.clothingattesco.com/icat/embschoolwear/?setpagenum=
My local primary school participates, and the school gets 5% cashback.
If your schools not on the list, maybe some lobbying would encourage them
ETA: I'm not actually recommending tescos because I've never tried the service, but was just so shocked at the prices some of you were quoting! at least tescos are cheaper.
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
Monnogran, i'm getting the same way with French beans - will try the no-blanch method MrsLW suggests!
Also, Blackpool town centre has a big B&M, Wilko, Home Bargains and Poundstretcher...heaven for bargain hunters!
Re uniforms - i'm glad my boys are grown up. I can remember having a new outfit every Christmas, woe betide if I grew out of it before the next Christmas. I have 3 brothers so little was passed down, and elder bro went to the grammar school on a scholarship but his uniform & bus fares still had to be found.
Must go, got bramble jelly, plum jam and apple & rosemary jelly to make, as well as slicing beans for the freezer!0 -
Ellie my DC's primary school is registered with Tesco, and I've bought reversible fleeces from them which are actually very good, I've heard polo shirts weren't so good as the sizing was rather haphazard. The secondary school isn't with them though.0

When I was at high school some forty years ago, we had three choices of shops for the uniform. I do remember that some of the things we had to have didn't get used. Also, that it was considered more cool to try and get away with slight variations of the official uniform. So that made it cheaper and after the first couple of years no one actually had the official stuff, just the school colours.
Autumn: I love summer and panic now as it seems to be going too fast. I have been really interested in what you all like about autumn and yes, I do love the colours, but not enough to want it to come any faster. By the way, in New England, America, people go 'tree peeping' to see all the colours. There is a saying 'New England in the fall'? Theres probably more, probably from a poem I would imagine but not sure.
I can't remember what else I was going to say, have had pages to catch up on again but then can't remember what I have read.

thanks ellie, his probable school isn't on there but some in the area are, so perhaps I can suggest it when I ring up about 2nd hand clothing sales, and perhaps letter drop my neighbours!
floss - bramble jelly mmmmmm. my blackberries have been pretty feeble this year, am going to go foraging this weekend when the monsters are back from grandparents.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
I was given one courgette plant which is producing masses of fruit. What on earth do I do with it????Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j
Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile
Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say

AAAAARRRGGHHH!!!!
DS2 has a stomach bug and has been back and forward to the bathroom all night.
DS1 has his second attempt at his driving theory test this morning AND his AS results are out at 10am
To say I'm stressed is a bit of an understatement *where is a nail biting smilie when you need one*
Apart from that and feeling shattered, I am doing ok. The ADs made me a bit more anxious, but thankfully that seems to be lifting.
DS1 wants to attempt some toast, so I'll be back in a bit. Xxxx0 -
That does sound stressful SDG, glad your ADs appear to be working though. Hope DS2 feels better soon and DS1 has lots of luck.0
