Ugh. Have spent all day soaking the oven in the stuff from £land but it definitely needs doing again, and I also need a new arm.
Still I guess that probably reflects how rarely it gets cleaned!
  • I have a very poorly Miss VP at the moment, finished antibiotics for sinusitis 2 days ago and now has a raging temperature, sore chest and throat, dizzyness and coughing up green rubbish. Gp says she has a cold and her chest sounds clear, did not take her temp (despite her sittng there shaking) which was 39.6 when we got home and did not look at the sputum sample she took with her. Our biggest worry is that she is having a general anaesthetic on Wednesday and we don't want the surgery cancelling. She is now dosed up and sparked out on the sofa, temp is down but it still 38.

Will be taking the decorations down this weekend and deep cleaning DD's pit of a room before her opinion. It is your typical messy teenagers room and will probably take the whole weekend for me to do as she is too ill at the moment to be able to help much.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Sorry to hear Miss VP isn't well. Has she had her pre-op assessment? Because it doesn't sound like a GA would be a good idea right now. Green slime isn't good, and anything that compromises breathing will worry the anaesthetist.

It might be worth calling the consultant's secretary on Monday morning to discuss whether they are happy to go head or would prefer to reschedule.

TBH, knowing how long it takes me to get over my very minor surgery and opiate-free anaesthetics when I'm well, I wouldn't want to do it. I had one anaesthetic post-pneumonia (with extra pillows...) and it is definitely tougher when you're not 100%.

Sorry to hear about miss VP but it does not sound good. They don't cancel ops lightly though it does seem like they do to the layman. I would be worried about an anesthetist who did not cancel. There are too many complications that can happen with any infection it is not worth the risk. Greenbee is right best to telephone the consultants secretary on Monday.

    Morning all

Wet and miserable here this morning, lots of muddy paw prints to sort out!

Mrs VP - Hope DD is on the mend soon, hope the op doesn't need to be cancelled but better to be safe than sorry.

Had a naff nights sleep again, DH was up and down with upset tummy and now feels like he's dying with man flu - DD1 was coughing all night and I kept waking up with pins and needles.....ah well - sleep is for wimps!!

Both DD's are out for the day in various places, DH is snoring away in bed still and I'm contemplating just how the house gets so untidy over night.

I'm starting a big declutter in readiness to put the house on the market late this year/early next year. I have a couple of tea sets/coffee sets that I've picked up at boot fairs over the years, one of which is quite collectable still according to a couple of china matching sites - they seem to be paying decent amounts so I need to dig it all out and get it all photographed to see if they'll buy it from me. I have an aim to raise £1k from selling some of the clutter and making some quilts to sell - if someone could just find an extra 10 hours in a day for me??

    More tea required!!!

Are you planning on moving Pooky? I hadn't realised. So soon after all your work doing up the place
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Morning Toughies,I've been busy this morning and sorted out the fridge as part of that so I've made a big batch of coleslaw and used up half a white cabbage, a bendy carrot and a coxs apple that had seen better days and I've also made a crustless quiche and used up the last scraps of new years days gammon joint and a miscellany of little bits of cheese from christmas. I've also sorted through some cherry tomatoes got cheap after christmas so we'll have a tomato salad with balsamic dressing with the rest of it for lunch. Fridge actually now has space and I can see what's in there, can only be good. Ironing to be tackled next on the list but not a huge pile so won't take long and after I've walked the Dockling I'm starting on a sort out in the store room, DD1 already sorted through her stored stuff in there and thrown out a box of rubbish and I can see the floor Hoorah!!!

It feels cold here today, the thermometer says it's not but it feels raw so I think we'll light up the stove early today and at least warm up the lounge and our bedroom which is above it. It's odd being on our own again, not unpleasant but the house feels empty. However it's really nice to get back to the usual routine and life as normal again.

    Hi everyone

Raining cats and dogs here. DS10 was champing at the bit to go out and our garden is like Glastonbury so DH has taken him into town for a browse. Instructions for them to pick up milk (even though he bought 4 pints yesterday, we need our own cow) and some fruit as we have nearly used ours up, a single apple and some melon remains. Wrinkly apples are destined for the slow cooker today with celery, herbs and small pork joint to be eaten tomorrow. Old bananas are earmarked for Sunday pancakes. Ooh just realised 1.5 peppers and 3 cherry toms left lurking in the salad drawer, they will meet the same fate as their veggie peers. Feels good to sort out the fridge doesn't it Mrs LW?

I'm sure our 2 would love your park nursemaggie. One of my aims for this year is to visit some further flung parks with them. Found out about a boulder park (for climbing) so that will on the list for sure.

Sorry to hear about Miss VP, hope she gets better soon. Shame if the op is cancelled.

Hope you all feel better Pooky, lack of sleep plus a partner with manful, not a good combo! We have muddy pawprints everywhere. I am obsessive about having throws on our cream sofa - boys always bouncing about and DH slouches and they slide down. So grateful that they were intact when a certain poshcat decides to wipe his paws clean all over the sofa.
Floors are filthy, outside of French doors splattered with mud from footie, a pile of caked trainers, wellies and crocs and washing machine full of muddy clothes as I type. Need to wash coats later for school. I just can't keep up, drives me a bit nuts but rather mud than no exercise for 2 young boys.

I felt so chilled last night, I left the dinner dishes so there is a huge pile please breakfast/brunch and various glasses and cups - there are still there so need to tackle them. Outside of hols I rarely leave dishes and am working in the eve doing all sorts but this holiday I have really chilled out for once. :)

edit: to say I am working on my perfectionist streak. I usually edit my posts to tidy them out, spacing always weird for me and correct typos. I am going to try to leave the typos but the spacing thing I will do sometimes. Hopefully will give you all a few laughs!

We were lucky when we brought this house that it was incredibly cheap (for the area) as it needed a couple of big jobs doing - i.e. a new boiler and a new kitchen. We've spent what we'd planned and have been paying down the mortgage as much as we could so we're now in a position of being able to sell this one and buy a smaller house in one of the surrounding towns with our equity.

The thought of being mortgage free is far to tempting an offer to turn down.

I know most people plan to downsize when they retire and have a lump sum to "play" with but by my reckoning, if we do it now then the money we'd have spent on the mortgage each month will be earning us interest instead of costing us interest if we still had a mortgage.

As things stand here we could overpay the mortgage to our real maximum each month and be mortgage free in 14 years or move next year and be in a great financial position.

I've seen a gorgeous cottage in an area we wouldn't normally consider with a huge inglenook fireplace, oak beams, lovely pottering about size garden and a garage that we could afford tomorrow......it won't be there when we want it but it's inspiring to think our MSE ways could give us the lifestyle we'd like, sooner, rather than later.

    :D

Oh Pooky such exciting times for you, looking forward to following your journey :j

Nurse Maggie, I cant think which Victoria park, Blackley or near the MRI - put me out of my misery :D Whichever it is Im sure you are very near me!

I have been pondering what to do with this fresh new year and tried to plan then we got a call at 8pm to say hubby is going for another facet joint injection on the 7th  - thanks for the warning, details or even directions to a hospital miles away - needs to be done though so need to prepare for that and put our weekend away on hold again.
