Mixed day here - Had a fab day out with a lovely friend with some seriously delish lunch, last pressie bought apart from DH - and we are having useful things plus a £10 box of little bits all wrapped up individually inspired by the perfect strangers project which someone on here (sorry can't remember who, but thank you) put me on to. Then went to pick up DD to be told she had been really off her game today, disruptive and uncooperative and they had seen a spot and chicken pox is rife at school at the moment! - Gee, thanks! by the time I got her home to have a proper look she had 7! Some people will do anything to get out of endless nativity rehearsals. DS now looks like he has a couple coming out - trust my little guys to be the oddities who get to have chicken pox more than once - DS had millions of spots last year and DD had just the one. Mind you DH is convinced he had it more than once (once as a child and then again when he baby sat his niece - GP told him at the time that contrary to popular belief you can get it more than once) so I'm going to blame him!

Hugs all round - catch you later - Hx

Good luck at the dentist Mardatha.

Stiltwalker, sorry to hear you've got a house full of fun right now. But yes, more than once is indeed possible. I had measles twice (once without the spots would you believe), mumps 3 times, chicken pox twice and shingles. It would have been prudent to buy shares in a calamine lotion factory. :rotfl:

Feeling a bit better today, it's so up and down. Trying to wear real pants today (not quite fastened yet), because I'm due at a friends kids graduation later this week and I can't do that in my fat pants :o
    Softstuff- Officially better than 007

    Morning everyone :)

The best of luck with your op Sheila xxx

I hope the dentist can help and that you feel better very soon mardatha x

Oh no stiltwalker At least getting it now they should be better for Christmas. Stock up on bicarb and good luck xxx

I hope the pre-op stuff goes well and is done quickly ivyleaf

What has been going on in the SDG house......well the tree is up in all it's multi-coloured, unco-ordinated glory. Complete with a knitted gecko, a fairy from NZ (along with various other assorted decorations) and Tigger and Piglet sitting at the top of it in place of an angel. Most of the present shopping is done, but some are still bugging me and I have no idea what to get.

I'm waiting for a delivery of more diet food, some of it has been lovely and some of it not so lovely. DH says that at least eating means that you know you will be able to po*p with ease. We are sharing it between us and having a "proper" dinner in the evening.

Can I pick your brains with regards to freezing and defrosting mince pies? I have made hundreds and hundreds of the things, but they never last long enough to make it into the freezer. This year I want to have a stash of them on standby for when DS1 comes home for Christmas. So any advice would be welcome :)

Pastry making time, so bye for now everyone xxx

    Hi SDG31000

With DD living abroad and unable to get mince pies I usually mange to but away a couple of dozen of them for when they come home in the summer. I usually buy them at less than half price straight after Christmas and they keep for six or seven months easily. I just take them out of the freezer a few hours before they arrive.

I expect you can just put them in plastic bags and freeze them the same. As they have lived in Muslim countries the last few years I have also bought pork pies and sausage rolls a few weeks before and they keep OK as long as you defrost them slowly. Pastry does tend to go soggy if you try to defrost too quickly. When I know they are coming I watch out for their favourite things on offer before I buy.

So many poorlies :( Hope you all get over these medical quibbles with speed and ease.

All is ok here. Very cold, although I suspect it will get colder. The heating is set to on with the room thermostats coming on regularly. We still have back ground heat but that background heat appears to be needing to be warmer and warmer.

I have stewing steak in the SC with gravy. Will make some round pie toppers as a way of having steak pie without hurting my insides with to much pastry  plus steamed veg and mash potato, using up the last of the cream ;)

I didn't buy more of my expensive wool for my cardi on payday. I decided to wait till after Christmas. I bought some acrylic wool for the picnic blanket instead. It keeps me in a project. DD has added her second ball of wool to her blanket. She is enjoying her crochet too.

Our house is Christmassy and enjoying the twinkle feel of it of an evening. I am however, very tired at the constant requests for money from the girls' schools. Honestly, it's Christmas. There's the spirit of giving and then there's the spirit of trying to make as much money as you can, while you can. That's how I feel anyway.

Know what you mean Fuddle when DS was at school I found they were after money almost every day for the last six weeks running up to Christmas.

I would have up to 6 begging letters a day from charities during December. I wounder where they expect it is coming from. You end up resenting it all and giving to no one.

I hope you have something that works by now Mar.

Get well soon to all the poorlies.
