Ladies I also have a confession to make, DS10 school had a mcmillan coffee morning today. School asked at 3pm yesterday for cakes. I finished yesterday school runs at 5.10 and was back out to DD8 school for trip meeting for 6pm. So this morning I sent DD19 to Mr A to buy cakes to donate rather than bake. I feel awful for it and like I have let the side down but I just didn't have a minute to bak.
  • Good sense on your part M'dear and where is the wrongness in being so tied up dealing with very necessary things to the point of having to buy in what you haven't had the time to make? It just shows your priorities are very much in the right place and your kindness in not letting down the coffee morning people is commendable too. Put your feet up and have a cuppa girl, you've earned it and stop worrying yourself for just being human, xxxxx.

kidcat - if the school wanted home made cakes then they should have given you more notice than three o clock the day before! They are damn lucky they got anything!

    :wave:Morning All.

Kidcat - Why do schools think we have nothing else to do but respond immediately to their demands - talk about emotional blackmail! Totally agree with Nargle & Mrs L

DH & I went to a friends funeral yesterday. Beautiful service. I had worked with his wife many years ago so caught up with many old workmates & reminisced. We were all saying its such a shame that we tend to meet up when situations like this occur so a few of us have swapped details to meet up again before Christmas.

Have a good weekend everyone :)

    Afternoon all

Is everyone off out having fun?

Busy doing work designs today so it will be a NSD - I will not be tempted to pop to the shop for chocolate!!! (but if someone else goes for me then it'll still be a NSD for me!!) :)

It's really autumnal here today - was crisp this morning and a bit chilly now it's clouded over - I feel like putting lights on and snuggling on the sofa.

Dinner this evening will be a concoction of YS left over bits and bobs, DD1 is working, DD2 is out but maybe home, who knows....it's hotel Pooky day again it seems.

Need to make some room in the larder for the AF order due on Monday, I've forgotten what I've ordered so it will be a big surprise :)

Right back to the drawing board.....literally!

I'm in making a huge vat of ratatouille for the freezer and taking many sweetcorn off the cob to freeze too. It's silly season with crops at the moment and I always seem to have a big pile of something or other to process or pickle. It's lovely to have it all in the colder months but by golly gosh it takes some time to process and store it all doesn't it? Next huge pile will be butternut squash and He Who Knows reckons we've got 60 or so of the little blighters to harvest this year and put into store so I'll have to get my thinking cap on as to how to use them up in different ways before we get sick of them. Housework done, ironing put away and hound walk on the books next. To think I said I'd not got anything on in particular today on the daily thread, just goes to show how wrong you can be!!!

It's now 20 past 5 and I've just been up and picked outside tomatoes and the tiny ones from the greenhouse............and now I've got even more than I started with before I made the ratatouille!!!AAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH there is such a thing as too many tomatoes (and I have green hands and green stripey arms....... and I smell!!!!!!!).
  • Well DH and I haven't spoken about the row but I didn't make any dinner for us adults yesterday - I had some tea earlier with the kids ;) and he didn't ask where his was or anything about the plumbing. I know he knows he is in the dog house. I am not in the mood to have a big talk but will do when I feel like I want to.

Anyway.... today guess where we all went? Yes another open morning at school which was (mostly) really fun and well organised. DS10, DH and I tried a dried insect snack ala I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Can't believe we all did it. They did offer a chocolate after which I had ready to pop into my mouth! At a previous open eve I had a go on a big drum set which I've always wanted to do as well. Almost makes me want to go back to school.... we spent half our schooldays in the 70s copying pages from a blackboard and having to share text books.

I was up at the crack of dawn to get ahead with chores and now shattered. Boys have finally had a bath and all homework done. Just need to make up boys' beds with fresh bedding and DH is making dinner... oh yes even if it is pasta and jar sauce and frankfurters and cheese stirred in... calorific but nice for a treat and our alternative to a takeaway when I am really tired. Tomorrow will be more restful, we are off to the cheapy film showing for "juniors" and I am booking myself in for a long soak and sitting with some sewing repairs and then my beloved Downton Abbey. Oh and dinner something with turkey mince to be decided.

silvasava - sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

Mrs LW I have a picture of you as some sort of gardening alien!!
  • Sorry I have been MIA most of the week my browser has had a sever case of narcolepsy. That is the disease that means you go to sleep all the time even when standing up. It has been going to sleep permanently in a split second so I have spent all the time either waiting for it to respond or keep refreshing my browser every few seconds. Yesterday I knitted a pair of mittens for DGD9 just while waiting for it to respond.

DS20 does not know what was wrong or if the fix is permanent. I hope it is fixed.

Good idea Silvasaver I think that sometimes goes for families too. You get to a stage where there are so many funerals you only meet at them and don't get round to a pleasanter get together.

Kidcat and SQ you make me dizzy with the amount you get done. I could not do a quarter of what either of you do between my constant side effects from the cancer treatments.

I have been a naughty girl this week I bought two boxes of Mince Pies. DS said "Good god mother it is not even October yet!" they are delish though.

My mother made mince pies every week of every year she was married. She stopped when my father died. I think he had one nearly every day of his life.

I have managed to read every day but I can't remember what is happening so hugs for those who need them and everyone else too.

Hi all, nice to catch up again. Spent all day either cleaning, catching up with the washing or trapsing around aldi. Had to invest in some of the usual cupboard items, and start the store cupboard again.

Have been back at work for a week, and it feels so tiring. Have admitted that I cant do everything, still lots to catch up with tho. More course work and final exam on the 6th.

Family are all at war, all arguing with each other, its OH family. I have little or no contact. So hopefully I wont be included..... but you never know.

Does anyone have any information on how to help our puppy, when we leave he barks constantly - any ideas on how to stop him or at least make him feel a bit calmer ??? thankyou all for reading x
