I can't believe that the lovely weather is still with us. S*d's law isn't it? The best summer we've had for years and I've spent most of it packing and unpacking. I hope that you've all made the most of it and boosted your VitD ready for the winter.

Ivy: Thank goodness you will have a smaller dressing on tomorrow. Hope it makes life a little easier

Stilty: Your day sounds wonderful - hope it all worked out, you so richly deserve a break. Yes, I know what you mean about the boxes. I still have several cluttering up my study but can't unpack until I have shelves etc to unpack them into and I can't get shelves and cupboards in place until the electrician has been to put another socket in for me. At the moment I am reliant on extension leads for my computer and printer and the piles of STUFF on my study floor are adorned with a spaghetti junction of cables. When I have sorted that out that's me more or less done. The garage is full of boxes but they are the Rev's baby. Although I'm hoping that she will discover a few things I am missing - e.g. all my kitchen foil, baking parchment and cling film!

Fuddle: I don't think it is the time of year making me feel tired. I usually have a huge spurt of energy in the Autumn, the sort that other people seem to have in the Spring. It's probably anno Domini together with a fairly strenuous few months. Your DS2 is a caution, isn't she? I wish I had that sort of confidence now, never mind at her age. She is going to sail through life hopefully, trailing a retinue of faithful admirers behind her. What a blessing to have that sort of character. Not easy for her family though!

Well, I've decided that Christmas isn't going to wait until I'm ready for it, (probably sometime in March) and Christmas Fairs, and even Fayres will need some knitting input by me. Hence I have dug out the Christmas Stocking patterns and the wool and am going to spend a couple of hours tonight getting in the mood.

Just spent last couple of hours catching up - I turn my back for a couple of days & you lot get up to all sorts ;)
IoW was lovely Monna - we stayed at Appledurcombe (dont you just love that name?) we went to a motorcycle 'thingy' at Arreton on sunday - DH had a lovely time chatting to blokes about the different motorbikes. I snuck off & found a sweetie shop that did coffee Fudge - yum! I've had a surfeit for cream teas & home made cakes so not going to look at the scales for at least a week. Pushkin came with us - she wasn't too sure about the ducks on the site though!

SQ - my husband sounds very similar to yours - there are times............! When you re not feeling 100pct yourself a tone of voice can sound so very hurtful. Mrs L & Ivyleaf are spot on as usual
Fuddle - so glad your DD got her new school
Possesion - hope the viewings go well & you get a firm offer.
Monna - do pace yourself = you have a hectic time coming up and you do need to make sure your energy reserves are up to it. I forgive you for mentioning the C word before haloween & bonfire night ;)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Ivyleaf....I went to drs yesterday and he said he wanted me to have blood tests done , which I went back at 10.50 today , obviously it will take about 3 days to get the results , I expect the dr will phone me if theres something up, Ive been tested for anaemia , and other vitmins deficiencys....So thats a start , I dont think theres any serious issues with me but I have to wait for now.......Thanks for asking...x
Fuddle Glad your DD got the school of choice...
Possession....Hope your viewings get you a result, I use to hate people coming into my home when it was up for sale , it just dont feel right , but its got to be done ...
Monnagran You must have been very tired to have slept the afternoon away , you wouldnt lay there if not......
Savingqueen...Stop and breath woman , your like a robot....
Stilty....Yea I agree its so nice to line dry everything, its been a super September so far , and definitely dont need the heating on ,which is a BIG plus for all of us.....
Lyn...Cor your applesauce cake sounds so delicious, Im strictly on a diet for the past 3 wks need to lose couple stone so beings theres only me in the house it should be easier as I dont have to have sweet thing in the kitchen for pack ups etc ......I dare not go on the scales for at least 5 to 6 wks , then it would be nice to see a reduction on the scales.......Im sorry if ive forgotten something from other posters, but my memory is !!!!!...Ive been eating pasta quite a lot and ive gotten to liking it , first time I had was 4 wks ago, yea im so behind and old fashioned with most things..........sheila ..(shegar)...

Glad to hear you're alright Sheila. I'll be interested to know if the sad lamp helps at all, I'd been thinking of getting one for DH.
I just found out that my friend's results for her neck dissection aren't due back until Oct 4th. That's a long wait.
  • Morning all,

So pleased to hear everyone sounding so upbeat and making the most of things!

Maggie the cat has woken us up two nights running trying to tunnel under the bedroom door. She is generally allowed access to all but a few rooms at night, but has had to be confined to the dinning room two nights running to allow us to get some sleep. We're hoping it is a short-lived phase and that she'll cotton on that we aren't going to play with her at 3am. She has hidden her favorite independent play toy and none of the others will do, so I'll see if I can find it for her and perhaps that will help.

Just going to throw a wash in and get to work. It looks like it will be a bit gray today, but I can't complain--its been lovely weather!
  • Morning Toughies and it's another lovely one down here but definately cooler now which I'm enjoying very much. It's been a bit hectic this week but I'm going to have an easier day today and catch up on all the 'little' jobs that need doing. Yesterdays visit from DD and that Zebra was lovely but he's almost got toothiepeg No3 and is suffering a bit with this one but was mostly a happy chappie. He changes so much from visit to visit I'm sad that they don't live closer so I can see the changes happening and be a bit more use to DD but we can't change that so I'll enjoy him when he does come.

DD1 has a big day today, the choral society is performing tonight at the Festival Hall in London with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Essa-Pekka Soliainen (hope that's how it's spelled) who is one of the top conductors in the world, such a wonderful experience for the choral society and something they'll treasure for always. She's so looking forward to the actual performance but has butterflies too which I can understand as it's such a big thing for an amateur choir. They're singing some Berlioz which is beautiful music and I get to hear them do this piece again as it's the autumn concert on thier home patch and the Philharmonia Orchestra is playing with them in the cathedral, should be fantastic.

We won the quiz last night which has added substantially to my christmas fund and my lovely nephew Tim passed his driving test yesterday too, well done that lad!!!

Hope you all have a lovely day and enjoy life, Lyn xxx.

How wonderful for the choir Lyn :) A memory to treasure!

Fairy Princess You sound a lot better today :) Hope you manage to find Maggie's toy. I've been hunting without success for our cat's catnip mouse!

Sheila Good luck with the SAD lamp, a lot of folk seem to find them a big help.

Possession That's such a long time for your friend to have to wait :(

    Monnagran I hope you're feeling better x

Jem Glad you were able to get your marriage certificate. Ouch at how much you had to pay, but at least it's one thing you can stop worrying about. I know I've been very lucky to have had quite a lot of holidays over the years, but I always find it so stressful getting ready to go away that I often feel I'd really rather stay at home :o

Consulting the collective wisdom of OS again: I am hopefully going to see my friend tomorrow, she's going back home today. I'm trying to think of something to take her, given that I already gave her books, I don't want to give flowers as she'll have had lots and I know from experience that's not a good thing, she can't eat well/at all so chocolates are out. All I can come up with are books again or a DVD box set given that she's going to be home a lot over the next few weeks. Any better ideas?
Had a house viewing this morning and the farmer nearby must have been muck spreading, the whole neighbourhood stinks! Not so great for the purposes of selling your house!
  • POSESSION would she like a pamper session at a spa or a facial at a beauty parlour? both will be relaxing and nice to look forward to and perhaps you might both be able to go together which would be nice too. If not, does she have an oil burner to scent the room? if not it might be nice to get one and some essential oils like lavender and lemon which are both calming and mood enhancing as recovering from cancer must leave you very tense and anxious and might help her to recover better from the experience.
