Morning all
Monna - Hope the move goes well - just think of the fun you'll have at the other end unpacking it all again!!! (sorry x)
SQ - Sorry to hear you're all under the weather - the girls always got summer colds when they broke up from school - it's just as the body relaxes and lets the germs in.
DD1 spoke to us yesterday from France - she sounded so down, she's got a sore throat, tight chest and has a rash on her legs....everyone else has been drinking themselves silly and not wanted to go out so she'd taken herself off for a walk so she could speak to us. I just wanted to go get her. They got themselves together last night to go to a local lake that's safe for swimming - she said it was like getting into a bath it was so warm but lovely to be swimming with fish. Think a bit of a dunk made them all a bit happier - they still don't have any running water so it's a real eye opener for them all.
Builders are here but not so noisy today - a relief as I've got a stonking headache. DH is so stressed as he has a trip to Kings tomorrow to see the ward they want to admit him to, he's got himself in a real state about it so I've parked him on the sofa with a book and I'm keeping out the way. I did mention that he cancel if it's upsetting him so much but he wasn't in the right frame of mind to hear that.
Chicken carcass in the SC bubbling away for stock and I've peeled the spuds for tea! Now need to think about lunch - I had breakfast at 6am and I'm starving!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
I think you're right Pooky about the connection between school ending and germs. Better to get it all out the way. I never plan anything much the 1st few days of the summer holidays.
Hope you're headache shifts - you have a lot on just now what with the building work in the heat, DH and DD. It will all pass and some sort of normality return. Poor DD, still she will soon be back and can notch her holiday onto life's learning curve and appreciate home comforts like running water.
Talking of which having a bath and hair wash soon - peace and quiet and a relax. Hopefully make me feel a bit better.
I have been collecting up more things for sewing repairs - the pile is massive. As soon as I get a couple of bits done, several more appear. I guess in a previous life, things would have just been binned or given to my mum to sew instead. great feeling when something can be used again. I have fixed one of the car blinds today, will do the other one later.

Morning gang
Another one with a stonking headache here, pain meds not shifting it, but made it manageable.
Gas service engineer just been, he was concerned when I mentioned the headache, and was questioning me about symptoms , but reassured when showed him my CM detectors and test shedual on back of boiler cupboard door... Nice chap, he came last year and asked about DH , seemed genuinely sad to hear the news, said he remembers chatting to him.
So hot here again, think I will do some indoor jobs and save the gardening jobs till later.
Might have a mini BBQ later ,... Just me and , if the headache has gone a glass of wine.
Pooky and SQ. I always get some sort of a cold as soon as any annual leave starts, your right, the body sort of relaxes and the germs get a hold.
Ivy, deep breaths and find a space you can retreat too, a calm space.
Right, more paperwork to sort. And shred. Trying to work through years of DH's lists and need to keep everything.
X CCtoday's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

monna good luck with the move, hope you enjoy your pastures new.
Hugs to all the poorlies, so many bugs about and the heat makes you feel worse. Boiling hot here, nearly melted when I got into the car after work. Not looking forward to taking Dd for allergy tests tomorrow in a hot hospital
I'm looking for inspiration on what to do/buy for a colleague who's had a bad run of luck and now her beloved cat has died - at a ripe old age and after just a short illness but she is devastated. I can't think of a little gift that's not the usual chocolates etc - I don't know her really well, just want to bring a bit of comfort. Any ideas?0 -
Would she like a nice picture frame so she can have a nice photo of the cat up on the wall, I know she'll be glad of it in a little while if not right now.0

Lyn, I was thinking exactly the same, just a small one.

DGD is on her second to last day of school today as they break up tomorrow. She's had enough and wants to "stay off" as she's "toooooooo tired" lol. Wanting to skive at 8yrs old, she has her whole life to call in sick when the suns out
I'm going to moan if I may.........
Yesterday morning I had the Npower meter reader round to read the gas meter and I asked him if he wanted to see the electric meter and his reply was
"No, I Know it's stupid isn't it? I will get a list next week and it will be nearly all the same houses I've done this week but for electric, then, then they have the nerve to moan about us spending too much money on fuel.........idiots"
Well at least I know the men on the ground floor are making their point as he wasn't one to be messed with, either that or someones fiddling somewhere and they will dump him on the dole queue.
Hot here without breeze until I put newspaper down to paint the fences then it all blew away, figures!
Moaning over

Not this for sure. Honestly I was looking for some cheap tea towels and just stumbled on it your honour :rotfl:0 -
paidinchickens, the fence and the gates are looking good, you worked hard on it, and in this heat as well.
A gold star for you I think and a glass of something very cold:)

Thanks for the suggestions folks - I'd also thought of a pretty little frame so it sounds as if you think it would be a good idea too. As you say, it may be appreciated a little more in a few weeks/months when the loss is not so raw. We have a little gift shop in the village with all kinds of trinkets - I rarely go in but I've usually found something to fit the bill when I've needed it so I'll pop in first thing tomorrow.0
