Ask at work if you can go on dementia traing course,I'v just done one last week, and I'm only a scrubber in a nurseing home, hth.
And what a lovely "scrubber" you are to
Was the course useful?
Not much going on here in Prada hills unless you count the jam factory that used to be my kitchen. Has anyone else suddenly had an influx of donated jam jars now it's jam season? I wonder if they would like them back, filled of course.

I've done a couple of training courses boult but no training can help you when a service user refuses help with personal care and begins to get angry if you push the issue. In that situation I am in someone else's home and alone so I back off.
Not everyone with dementia reacts the same way. I have ladies who go down the anxiety route and worry obsessively about food stocks or don't think their home is their home but a hotel or even a care home. I have a lady who resents the fact that she needs care and is verbally abusive 80% of the time and wishes to stab each of us with a sharp knife. We have to adapt and understand in order to keep ourselves safe while ensuring the person feels safe so therefore if someone refuses any kind of help then I stand back and allow the person the right of feeling control, not threatened in their own home and avoid heightened emotions that can force a behaviour that is not safe for anyone in the situation.0 -
Oh my what a day, I was in town just at the checkout when my phone rang and it was a neighbour who said that He Who Knows had just fainted in our porch and she'd grabbed the dog and shut him in the study and what to do? I sopke to DH and he was feeling groggy as you would and had tingly hands and feet so I said contact the GP Surgery and ask for advice. I got home on the next bus, bless my neighbour he offered to come and fetch me but the bus was due in 5 minutes and by the time he'd driven in I'd be almost home. I rang DD the GP and got her to talk to her dad who seems to be OK now but I'm watching him like a hawk. We're just off to give the lurcha a leggie stretch round the block and then supper and a quiet evening, and if I'm even a smidgen worried about him I'll make sure he's seen by our GP tomorrow, what a day!!!0

Oh no - poor He Who Knows, hope he is ok - X
Well DD has had her very first proper playdate - she brought a friend home from school and they had a lovely time playing on her bouncy castle, then friends mum arrived with his little sister and they ended up staying another hour as the kids were having so much fun, it was lovely.
Just got to calm her down enough to go to sleep now as she is worn out from all the bouncing.
Trip to Ikea yesterday and yesterday evening I put up the wardrobe and new drawers for our room and did the show rack this morning so we are really beginning to get there, just got to sort cabinet/mirror/storage for the bathroom and we'll be getting there. Think we've seen the sort of thing we need at B&M so will be off there tomorrow. After that maybe the money will stop running like water - it's been an expensive business this moving lark.
Hope you are all staying safe and well - hugs where needed or wanted - Hx0 -
Oh dear Lyn, he need to get a check up at the drs soon, best to always check on things like that , need to know it wont happen again, drs app ASAP...
Inever leave anything im not sure on, espeically now we have a wealth of information on the net to check out, its easy to diagnose your own symptoms these days , then go to the drs for him to confirm it....
Im off to the private hospital in the morning again for the MRI scan , its about 27 miles away but its something I definitely have to do........Then I suppose I have to wait for the consultant inform me , he is also ordering a pair of insoles , which he says will help out ......I may need them if the operations are out of my financial reach , and go on NHS list.......
Weather is super , cant ask for better, only that the garden needs so much done to it right now, all the sun is making everything grow quick... I cant believe its the 7 th month here today already , where has this year gone..?....I havent got much to report at all....
Only that hubby is loving his new home overlooked by the sea ....They all treat him so very well , he is very well liked cos he do have a super personality and sense of humour...........He has now got a friend in the next room called Roger , he is 41 years old , type 1 diabetic but got MS , my hubby like the responsibilty of checking that rogers blood sugar dont drop too low, he got use to looking out for me ...........They have dinner to gether and each got to know each other very well, Roger is there on respite because his poor wife is finding the 24/7 caring too much for her, I havent met her yet.......Roger thinks he will stay there permanently ......Most people in the home are well over 65 and have dementia , where hubby and Roger dont..........Ive been getting hubby home every other week end and he is happy with that........
.Well I hope your all well and take care ....Sheila.0 -
Oh Lyn I am sorry, hopefully it was a combination of heat and exercise, but you are quite right to keep a close eye on him.
Best to be seen by your GP anyway, it might just be a warning sign of something else. Perhaps a good nights sleep will sort it.
Take care both of you

Lyn hope poor HWK is feeling better - have a restful evening. Hope the weather is as glorious for you as it is here.
Sheila money spent on your health is money well spent in my book. What else could you save it for that could be of more value.
Fuddle well done on looking after your service users so respectfully. The carers in my Mum's home are just wonderful too. It's not a job I could do but DD1 is training to be a nurse and takes it all in her stride.0 -
Oh Lyn it must have been an endless bus journey, I hope he's ok, fingers crossed x0

Hope HWK's is feeling more sprightly now Mrs LW....must have been very worrying for you.
Shegar - Glad to hear that your DH has a friend and is loving his new home, I'd imagine it makes it that much easier on you knowing he's got someone there to keep him going.
Everyone has just left for the cinema - it's deathly quiet - the parrot is grinding her beak and trying to sleep - the neighbours little tots are in bed so no screaming from the garden....all the kittens are flaked out in the conservatory so no one is demanding to be fed.
It might just be an hour or two on my own but you really do appreciate it when you're looking after someone 24/7.
I was tempted to have a nice soak in the bath but I've decided on a big bowl of strawberries, a bit of a foot soak in my foot spa and my choice of TV viewing! Bliss."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Just wanted to offer hugs to all.
Lyn, my thoughts are with you and I hope HWK is fine.
Sheila, good luck with the MRI and not a minute's thought for the money! This is your health!
Stilty--nice cup of tea and a sit down? I don't know how you've got the energy!
had a nice day to day and have just taught myself to cast on with two pencils and some plastic twine. I'm a lefty so it always takes me longer. Might splurge on some needles and wool soon!0
