Fluffy kitten seems a bit brighter today thanks Fuddle. She's eaten her own body weight in ham, not ideal but any food is better than none....the fact that it has a high water content helps with her fluids too. She's made it upstairs onto my bed today, the first time in nearly 2 months!

Another glorious day here but very windy which is keeping the temperature much more bearable. Had a walk to the cafe on the cliff this morning for a cup of tea and some fresh air, came back via the park where they've just installed some outdoor gym equipment. DD1 and I tried it all out, it's great. We shall make good use of it.

I've been hunting through my fabric stash for a bit of something for some patchwork I'm doing and came across 3 bits I'd forgotten about. Ive made a simple sun top out of one bit, will do the same with one of the others (when I've got some more sheering elastic) and I've enough pale green jersey to make myself a couple of pairs of pj bottoms. Fabric was gifted by a friend of my mothers, so aside from a roll of elastic, 2 tops, 2 pairs of bottoms and all free!

Pleased kitten seems to be improving.
Any piccies forthcoming for the sewing you're doing please?

It gets hotter! Holiday makers here can be spotted by their beetroot colour faces and arms, (and probably other places that I don't wish to know about).

Had my hair cut today so I certainly don't look like me. The Rev distinguished herself this week end by breaking the ironing board in half. Don't ask! This necessitated a trip into D*n*lm to buy another. It's a hard, hard life.

Pops: Love the sound of your straw hat, I can just picture you. Our school Summer uniform required us to have a Panama. Unfortunately they were terribly expensive and those whose parents couldn't afford them, or chose not to afford them on the perfectly justifiable grounds that their darling daughters would undoubtedly ruin them in the first term, bought the cheap imitation straw hats. These passed muster until the first time they got wet when the top of the crown started to rise and continued to get higher until they were cone shaped. Those girls who ended up looking like escapees from the cast of The Mikado were easily identified as having poor, or mean, or sensible parents. On the day that we left school we had a glorious bonfire in the corner of a netball court.

Fuddle: I think you'll enjoy The Diary. Not very applicable to today as it was written in the thirties and although the 'lady' was watching the pennies she still managed to have a cook/maid/cleaner. But it is a real slice of 1930's life.

Pooky: You are an inspiration and a conscience stabber. I collect material like I collect wool and simply never get around to using it. Well, the wool I do a bit, but my patchwork languishes (unfinished) and I really want to use some of the cotton to make a summer dress for a little girl I know whose family has fallen on hard times. All I need is her measurements, a pattern, time and a kick up the backside.

The Rev has taken a group of BB anchor boys on a trip round somewhere - can't recall where. She'll be back soon, tired, sweaty and cross so I'll go and lay on cool drinks and a sandwich or two.

  • Evening Toughies, we've just been up the garden and watered everything inside and out, definately cooling a little and the nicest part of the day so far so being outside was a real pleasure. Poor Docky, we had him to the vet today for his annual jabs and he's been scratching at the side of his muzzle on and off for a couple of months so we got the vet to check it out and he has a little pea sized lump not attached to anything but under the skin that has her mystified. She has never come across anything remotely like it in practise before, she says it could possibly be a foreign body that has been enclosed by his skin and just stayed inside. He's off to have his teeth cleaned next Tuesday under anaesthetic and they will investigate while he's asleep. He squeaked when she rolled it around to see if it was attached to anything so I know it's sore poor old fella. We'll wait the jury on this one but it's a worrysome thing to have hanging over him. Pets eh?

Hot has been the day, very hot in fact and we've been doing what we needed to indoors and staying out of the heat as much as we could. Nights are a bitty uncomfortable at the moment and we're both, like all of you I suspect, quite down on sleep so the evenings are a bit of a blur and we're falling asleep watching TV. He Who Knows has declared it a no cook evening, it's just too hot and decided that a Chinese Takeaway is the way to go, not something we do often but very welcome this evening. Hope you all sleep a bit better tonight, stay cool, Cheers Lyn xxx.

ooof - not really the evening for it but there has been cake baking and chilli making going on chez nous. DS had a successful dentist trip but has delicate gums so chilli is ideal. The cake baking is to cheer him up - not that he's miserable but "will you make lemon drizzle as I have poorly gums" combined with pleading puppy dog eyes is hard to resist.

Dentist put gel on his gum first so when the needle went in, he didn't feel a thing. She had to drill a front tooth to make a stump and fixed a temporary crown. In 2 weeks he will have the permanent one fitted. Hopefully all will be well then. He chipped his tooth 4 years ago (walking the wrong way up a water slide ) and it has been a problem ever since - as well as giving him an odd "pirate" appearance.

The weather looks set to last until the weekend at least :T which is good as DD is having her children's birthday party (i.e. she is 17 but wants a "jelly and ice cream" party) so I have to organise pass the parcel with dares, who am I game (post it notes with a famous persons name on, attach to forehead and person has to guess who they are!), chocolate game (big slab of chocolate, on a rolled 6 of the dice person has to don hat, gloves and scarf and cut chunks of chocolate off with a knife and fork - as much as they can till the next 6 is rolled). We were going to have a piñata but decided that 17 year olds bashing hell out of it is vastly different to little ones. Anyone got other ideas? There is a large bouncy castle and food is typical party finger food but to include traffic light jelly (not vodka!!). Honestly, I thought my days of organising parties were behind me.

Right washing up, hovering and Ironing (2 hours worth, GQ!) to do. No rest for the wicked, is there?
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Good evening everyone and a belated welcome to Amber.
We have had two very hot days here and I am definitely wilting. Yesterday was so busy with lots of rushing round that I was exhausted by evening.
Did find time to have lunch with a friend. We sat outside for a couple of hours and I have been punished, for not being prepared, by having a tomato red chest with a white cross embedded where my necklace is.:eek::eek: Quite sore but my own fault as I just didn't think!
Love the photos Mrs C. I must learn how to post photos here but my technical expertise is not improving much.
SQ sounds as though you are coming round this way. I hope the weather holds for you as it just gorgeous round here at the moment. Well it always is but sunshine helps.:)
My husband had one of those hats for whenever we abroad on holiday. I thought it looked quite smart but he suffered terribly from our two son's witticisms about it. :rotfl::rotfl:
Right, got to go and catch up with chores before bed time.

VJsmum - our girls used to like 'What's the time Mr Wolf?' at their parties, but I'm not sure how it would end up with a group of 17 year olds! Hope you all have a good party.

I'm enjoying this heat, find the hot weather gives me energy somehow. Been sleeping like the dead and finding it hard to get up. We've been out on the bike a few times and generally just enjoying the summer. Long time since we last did it!

    Welcome lurkers:wave:
    Hello everyone:)
Hey SavingQueen You are coming to near where I live, You have chosen some lovely places to visit:D
When you are in Seahouses to do the Farne Islands trip you can get the kids crabbing gear to use off the pier. Very cheap in the Farne gift shop:j
(The pier is concrete one so no issues for people like me that don’t like see through ones.)
Most beaches in the north are sandy

Alnwick Gardens is def worth a visit as well as the castle- Not sure if you can get an “all in” ticket. The gardens have the poison garden, a lovely waterfall and there is a part where the kids can play in the water features….Swimmers are acceptable in this area

Check out the Northumberland website for any offers and the Tourist information sometimes have leaflets with discount vouchers on too. There is one in the car park at Seahouses:)

VJsMum. I too have been cooking up a storm. A huge pan of chilli and my favourite paella….:):)

    Well, off to prepare baits

    Bye all.............And don't forget your sunscreen:D
    xx
Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j
Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile
Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say
    Loving de-cluttering

LYN I do hope your woofy will be okay, my little rosie as lumps and bumps all over now......

She as breast cancer, had it before, but vet wont operate as she is 16 years old.......But last few days the small lump as burst ,its right on the nipple, its not infected, I was hanging on hoping it would heal over , cos she isnt in any pain at all but as soon as I go into the vets it wont cost anything under £80 for sure, consultation, then antibiotics, and here we go again..........I give it a few more days to see if it will heal naturally.........
