Morning Toughies, He Who Knows has the boy out as it's going to be another glorious day today, this feels like 1976 and boy are we enjoying it!!!
Hello to STILL2TRACE and NITNURSE welcome to the thread, lots of fun, kindness, good advice and just a little naughtiness on this thread, lovely to have you both join in and play.
Thanks everyone for your good wishes for Docky I'm sure he'll be OK but he's my baby and I love him, so I'm a silly old duffer who worries about him! SHEGAR I hope that Rosies burst lump heals quickly, poor old lady she's had lots of problems lately hasn't she? POOKY I hope the poorly kitten is feeling better today and continues to progress back to health.
I'm off to do housework before it gets too hot and the washing is nearly ready to go out, have a good one everybody, catch you later, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
LYN, the labs send lots of SLURPPPPS to Docky and hope he is OK. Choccy Lab has everything wrong that could be wrong and is allergic to just about everything including trees!!!! He too has the odd unidentified little lump here and there, some he's had for years and he's only 6, but they've never turned out to be anything nasty.
SHEILA, hope your puss cat is OK.
We were out walking the dogs at 5.30 yesterday morning before the heat set on and came across a boor little black cat who had been run over. Someone had placed him carefully on the grass verge. This morning there was a notice pinned to the fence alongside where he had been laid, saying Little Black Cat, killed while out hunting. RIP'. Some kind hearted person had taken the trouble to do it.
Sadly we've seen a couple of furry bodies in the same area recently as a new housing estate is across a very busy road from the allotments and open fields so it's very temtpting for the pusses to try to cross.
Not quite as hot here yet today, thank goodness, but 26 degrees expected later. Just about managing to keep the allotment watered and alive. DH had to do it at the weekend as I just couldn't face the heat. I have another pan of strawberries about to made into jam, there's no end to them at the moment. We're also enjoying a few courgettes, dwarf beans, spring onions, raspberries and carrots. I noticed yesterday that there are quite a few beetroot ready to pull (but was too hot to do it and then face cooking them) and the chard is looking healthy too.
I managed to make a couple of things for the charity bake sale yesterday and made a point of choosing recipes to use up odds and ends in the cupboards. DH has requested a batch of Welsh Cakes today and Dd18 has promised to make some things for the sale too.
Can't quite manage a NSD today as we are really low on fresh fruit (apart from strawberries!!!) so will stop by Lidly on the way to water the lottie later.
For anyone who enjoys crafts and maybe would like to a bit of embroidery, I've come across The Napkin Project which is aiming to present embroidered napkins with plenty of textures to their dementia patient as they have noticed how the patients love feeling and handling the napkins and use them in a variety of ways. The project will supply the napkins and you can read about them here http://thenapkinprojectblog.wordpress.com/about/ .
Hugs to all the poorly pets0 -
Thanks ALFSMUM Docky sends his luv to the Labridoors!!! I think he's fine, he hasn't had any behaviour changes or diminution of energy i.e He's still a manic fruit loop!!! and until the vet poked his nose hard he's never indicated that it was hurting him so we'll see what they come up with next week. He's 9 and a bit now so I think it's likely he'll get some age related health issues over the next few years, he also has every allergy known to dogkind so I'm careful with him. Will let you all know when we do, have a gud daye an tew ver labridoors vat vey shud sta inna shaydey bitz tuday koz iz gointer bee Hotttttttt ergen, Docky xxx0

Morning all. I've been stewing on this (pun intended!) for a while. Apologies for the source

Hats off to the retailers who are saying they won't sell meat from infected carcasses. I shop at Aldi and have been trying to get an answer out of them for a couple of weeks now as to whether they are selling it or not but they aren't being very forthcoming. We haven't had any beef for a while now, it's a bit concerning.0 -
hope all ok x
I have a spotty little girl off school today so no work for me. have managed to get her looked after for the rest of the week so I'll go back in tomorrow. She's sat next to me watching the food channel. I'm expecting her to ask for prawn linguine or something for teashe loves cooking with me.
She's not poorly luckily, but her chicken pox are itching. will be staying indoors today despite her asking every 5 minutes to go to the park, go to school, play in the garden...
going to get the sewing machine out shortly and run up a couple more very simple dresses, just a rectangle of fabric sewn into a tube and rows of shearing elastic in a band round the top. I've already done 2 out of a piece of duvet cover (from freecycle).
feeling a bit miffed to be stuck inside on this glorious day. will be dashing out to water the lotty this evening though. had some lovely crops off there so far, gooseberries are nearly ready toofreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Another lovely day. The yachts are out in force. My friends had a yacht once, it was hardly a Gin Palace, more a Tap Water Shack but it was called, 'Ridiculous Extravagance.'
The window cleaner has been and gone - my one indulgence, a large, tall, Victorian house defeats me - the kitchen and bathroom restored to something resembling hygenic, and a quick swipe around other bits and that's it for today. It's our fasting day so don't even have any cooking to do. YYYYYAAAAAYYYYY!
Of course I could start on the ironing and christen the new ironing board. Well, I could but I'm not going to. I'll pop up to the greengrocer's and top up my salad stuff - the garden has only produced radishes as yet, buy a paper and practise being a retired lady.
Alfsmum: I'm so glad someone cared enough to mark the passing of a little black cat. It's heart-warming and proof that there are more good people in the world than is generally acknowledged.
MrsLW: Loving slurps to Docky. Nine years old? That's positively middle aged. Tell him that he'd better start growing old gracefully.
Hang on. This is Docky we're talking about. Scrub that last bit.

Years ago I used to take my two DDs up to Durham from "down 'sarf" and we loved the place I have even climbed the cathedral tower four times (couldn't manage it now though) I loved the carvings on the tree down by the river of the Last Supper I don't know if they are still there. It is many years (over 30) since I have been.I found Durham and the surrounding area a smashing city and we stayed at a place, I think it was called Wolsingham at the Bay Tree Hotel,it was really a very nice pub
but excellant value and the girls and I loved it there.
We went originally when my late OH was working away in Africa and it was the February half term.I drove up from London and we appreciated how beautiful the countryside was.Whilst in the pub eating breakfast one morning a local chap came in and said High Force is frozen you must come and see.I had never heard of it and he took myself and my two children in his Landrover to see it I must admit I was impressed and in the summer when my OH was on leave, we went up again to see this amazing waterfall and he couldn't believe that it could have been so cold it was freezing over. The people were so friendly when we were there and always said 'Good morning are you enjoying your holiday' everyone seemed to know we were visitors
One chap came into the pub and asked if the girls and I wanted to go riding and we went up on to the 'Tops' and rode some lively ponies in the snow It was freezing but a wonderful memory for myself and my children. The cathedral is just so enourmous and awe inspiring to walk around .I got chatting to a monk and he showed me round the refrectory and the roof which is held up with wooden pegs and has stood for a 1000 years As a history nut I was facinated .Great place to visit if you have the chance
Aw JackieYou can't walk anywhere in the countryside in the North East without saying hello and a few words. High Force is spectacular... cannot believe it froze!
Please would you tell me where the free parking is BunBun  But if it involves parallel parking or nasty hill starts I will pass :rotfl:
Lightbulb moment today. DH paid next Monday. Checked account yesterday, had a little grumble but felt ok. Checked it this morning and all my shopping from last week has only just come off and altogether. So now on bare bones (but more than enough to eat, all bills paid and enough for a bit petrol for me so don't be worrying about me). Did my grocery shop this morning with cash in my pocket and calculator in my hand. It is so much more time consuming doing it this way but I halved my shopping bill by putting things back like lettuce (salads are fine without) no £2.67 mackerel but tinned mackerel for 80p (I like!) and sardines, loose bananas at 55p for 5 instead of a bag of only a couple more for a lot more money (school boy that mind, I should have known that before now)
Ploughman's lunch for our tea today:)
What is the worst thing about blazing sunshine? You can't ignore smarmy windowsEnjoy the rest of the day

Hiya FUDDLE well done on the shopping, yes it does take more time but it's really where you save most pennies, I rarely put food shopping on a card, I go to the bank once a week and get out a set amount and that then HAS to last until the next week, good incentive to find bargains.
How is the littlie doing? Hope she is feeling much better now and she has had no more fainting fits, poor little mite, how's she fareing in all this heat? Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
fuddle do you know where St Margaret's school is? you can park on Archery Rise by the main entrance to the school. it is a hill (but easy to get on and off unless it is snowing!) although there are sometimes spaces in the side roads. it is about 20 minutes to townsaving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200
£60 deposit paid :j £100 paid:j £40 paid:j0
