Sorry to read of Docky being out of sorts...

Fuddle, of course it adds up and it depends what shops are available locally but there is a variety of lettuce on sale in Tesco's very large which needs watering so it lasts and it is 75p(but you get two for £1)and take off the leaves as and when.

I know I'll waste some being on my own but I'll get quite a few sandwiches/meals out of them. And at present there are two bunches of spring onions for £1 instead of £1 for one.

Like you I have been known to ditch items or substitute items, in my own case spring onions for ordinary onions and will choose one type of lettuce over another...

Only a flying visit as am in a meeting (there should be a naughty smiley) just to say fuddle if you get a normal plant pot and fill with soil and mixed lettuce seeds they grow really quickly - fill a few and you should be able to self supply lettuce for the summer.

MrsLW - hope docky ok :)

Morning everyone, finally a whole day off to myself. I am being so selfish and just doing nothing. Well apart from the washing, hovering etc etc lol.

I nipped to mr t, gosh some of the bits are so expensive. I received a leaflet from lidl today it has a £5 voucher from a £30 shop. I usually go to aldi so will try as its money off. Does anyone shop there? is it good quality stuff? Our store has a had a big refit so that's why there is a voucher.

Eldest DD is running the race for life in Peterborough tonight. She is looking forward to taking part. They left their sponsor forms at work, and most customers offered a pound or two each. It all adds up. I asked what was going to be her message, and she didn't know.

Im glad im at home today, feel a little teary today. No reason, just one of the darker days on what is such a nice day. It says 27 on the temp reader.

Must go do hard boiled eggs, think it will be a salad tea with some bacon that needs using up.

    take care x

My DD did the race for life near us last month. She really enjoyed it. :)

How is the littlie doing? Hope she is feeling much better now and she has had no more fainting fits, poor little mite, how's she fareing in all this heat? Cheers Lyn xxx.

No more fainting episodes Lyn. sure is a mystery - or that she's actually eating maybe. Eating well, she's doing really well and trying to eat things that normally she would snub because she understands it's important. I had a chat to her teacher about it and she suggested the lady PE teacher have a word to her about eating/nutrition. DD really looks up to her, she plays football for the county ladies team and since then she's been really keen to be healthy. Watching Andy Murray succeed has really helped too. She's talking about being a nutritionist in sport when she's older. I'm just waiting for the day she can manage to put a lb on but happy so far ;)

fuddle do you know where St Margaret's school is? you can park on Archery Rise by the main entrance to the school. it is a hill (but easy to get on and off unless it is snowing!) although there are sometimes spaces in the side roads. it is about 20 minutes to town

I know it bunbun, crossgate peth on the approach to Neville's Cross. Thank you :D;)

I know, I really should get to grips with growing. When I lose my parsely (basil is going strong) which will be soon as it looks poorly and limp I will sow a couple of lettuce seeds every day or so. It's definately not too late is it? I don't want to waste money on seeds

fuddle - I am sure some people manage to grow lettuce all year round on window sills etc,
  • FUDDLE glad to hear she's better and eating again, canny move to talk with the PE teacher, she'll listen if it's someone she aspires to be like. Would you like some lettuce seeds? we seem to have far too many and a couple of varieties that aren't doing too well in the heat of the polytunnel. We were going to pin them up on the allottment notice board, but I'd rather send them up to you if they would be any use? Let me know, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Monnagran, I cannot believe it - you taking a day off :j:j and nuttyp taking it easy, goodness whats the world coming too. :D Enjoy it while you can xx

Fuddle great news that your Dd is getting inspired, its so easy to go the other way with peer pressure. My Ds had a problem when he was a teenager but with careful work and not making it an issue he never looked back.

Hope darling Docky and Shegars little one are ok today. My cat is complaining loudly about the heat and several other things - me not jumping to attention and feeding him etc. We have this every summer, well we also have it in the winter, he is just generally a moany old moggy. Imagine Victor Meldrew in a fur coat :rotfl:

Busy crafting and other lazy things as OH is having a days respite so no cooking for me either, bag of crisps and a diet coke for lunch - yummy!

Going to try some salt dough as it can air dry in this weather.

Ugh, just got back from school run and barely had the energy to put one foot in front of the other. I feel for those whose jobs mean they need to stand out in this heat, we just aren't used to it.
Fuddle I'm growing salad leaves quite successfully at the moment and if I can, literally anyone can! I can kill a plant just by looking at it.
