Thank you Lyn and yw
fuddle Get proper sock wool as it is designed to be hardwearing. There is no point spending all the time knitting them if they get holes after a couple of wears.
HH That sounds like a lovely way to pass time.
monnagran I can just picture you sneaking around the room hissing at people. It's a wonderful image
jem123 I am so glad that he is doing better. Long may it continue.
Well I am taking a break from the kitchen that is hot enough to be classed as a cruel and unusual punishment and that I am sure breaks the Geneva Convention. I need to cook in my bikini but that would put everyone off their dinners.
I've cooked all the onions that DH peeled and chopped down to a mush by mistake and the YS chicken drumsticks that I brought yesterday have gone off overnight.
On the plus side the vanilla and chocolate puddings are made, so is the pepper and coriander relish and everything else is in hand so far.
I'm going to try cooking standing in a bowl of cold water I think.
Take care everyone xxx0 -
I am another who really does not do well in the heat and prefer it to be warm rather than hot.
Our school hols started last Friday so that's the first week done, weather has been OK mainly dry but not too warm.
At the moment just thinking of cheap ways to keep the kids entertained for the next 5 and a half weeks, eldest's Birthday in the middle of it as well.
Also need to start eating more healthily and get back to walking and toning exercise 2 stone has managed to creep on over the last 2 years and I need to get rid of it.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

Fuddle can you get hold of some elder, thinner bendy branches are good. Cut them into pieces about an inch long, push out the squishy inside with a tent peg or similar. You now have beads, paint and string for home made jewellry, belts etc. The children I work with at Forest School love this. There are lots of free printables etc. on the Woodland Trust website. Hope this helps.
Sorry not very good at the moment, feeling very end of termish and still 2 weeks to go.
Loving all the labour stories and glad to hear that poorly peeps are on the mend.0 -
Evening all,
I remember labour and giving birth as if it were yesterday. My girls are now late teens and thinking about going to uni soon!
It has been really hot here so I preferred to stay in, boring I know but I hate the heat (sorry, I know I shouldn't be ungrateful, it's just I prefer the colder weather) and managed to cross stitch My eldest DD a bookmark, she is an absolute book worm so she loved it. I stitched 'Jo, made with love Mum xx' she says she isn't going to use it as she doesn't want to spoil it! :rotfl:
I am off to Winchester for a week tomorrow and will have limited access to the Internet, hope you all have a lovely 'what's left of it' weekend and look forward to catching up with you all next week.0 -
Evening all - hope you are all ok and those (like me) who are not sun lovers are not too melting and grumpy!
Had a good day out at the farm park (yes, again - we might as well move in!! Still it is very MSE as the children have very special VIP cards, although we do always try to spend something as I'd feel guilty otherwise). We took picnic stuff today and bought drinks and ice-creams later in the afternoon. DD was very pleased to see her donkey friends and spent ages with the guinea pigs blowing kisses to them!
Monnagran - DH was convinced for years that that was how you got babies - you went to the hospital and picked one up! - as that was what they did with his little brother, DH is adopted too (but obviously doesn't remember that bit!) he has never been interested in his birth family, it was a bit odd when his mum gave us the file last year when we got DD's diagnosis (it is genetic but so rare as to be highly unlikely to have appeared in his family before), but he still didn't want to find out more. It was weird to discover that his birth mother has the feminine version of our DS's name though! Speaking of weird name coincidences his brother got in touch with his birth family last year as a result of a major health thing that was genetic only to discover that he has another brother with the same name as DH (Dave so not uncommon) and a sister who has the same name as he would have been if he had turned out to be a girl!!! (private adoption from birth arranged while birth mum was pregnant so PILs had a girl name and a boy name picked out as for a normal pregnancy) - De de de de (spooky music lol) moment or what?
Lyn - love the bored sticks idea - I am so storing that up for the kids when they are older, at the moment they are so good at occupying themselves I'll not need them yet.
We have the SEN stay and play in the holidays for 2 days a week which is my lifeline as the kids do like to get out of the house and I struggle on my own due to their disabilities - I can't walk DD or help her in her walker and push the pushchair on my own so can only do stuff they are either in chair for or where they can crawl round. This year will be fab as DH has reduced his hours and no longer works Monday so he will be able to come with us then and we have been granted direct payments for a supported place on the Wednesday ones so DD will get a 1to1 while I get to focus on DS and maybe actually get to sit down will a cup of tea occasionally and chat to some of the other parents.
Ok this has turned into a bit of an essay (and I am avoiding that dirty word this weekend as I really ought to get on with my next essay and I'm not going to until Monday so there!!!)
The kids ate early tonight and DH is in the bath so I'm going to put our tea on and maybe even take him another beer up if I'm feeling nice
Take care and catch you later - X0 -
Grumpy the house elf who is 8 fell 6ft from the top of the slide last night and has a nasty scrape from waist to armpit so he has been allowed to sit on his bum with his laptop today. He has been out for a few little bounces on his trampoline and a smallish sit in the garden though. He does have a tv in his room. I think he may have watched a dvd on it last year - it's not been on since. He watches cartoons in the morning downstairs before school and that's his lot usually.
I did take him to A&E last night but the doctor had phoned in sick at our local, and in the bigger one there were still 4 children to be seen before us at 10pm. They gave him pain meds at 8pm, and I reckoned that anything serious would have already made itself known 3 hours after his fall, so I brought him home. I knew he was alright when the nurse had to go and find him some biscuits.
I was very ill when I was pregnant and had lots of those technicolour scan thingies. They told me he would be about 6lbs full term. My aunty who was a midwife before such things were invented had a feel of him, winced and said I may like a section if offered due to the size of his head. Sure enough, he came out of the trap door - 3 weeks early and 7lb 10.5 oz.
Anyone not in favour of the trap door, well trust me, when your four year old asks how the doctor got him out of your tummy, a section scar is good to show:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
p.s. If you don't mind the smaller people making free in your garden with their artwork, Tesc0 Extra has tubs of jumbo chalk for £1.50. They had packets of pipe cleaners of all colours for £1.75 too, but those are for the cat0 -
Poor House Elf, hope the putty cats are making him feel better, they heal so fast at that age but that is a pretty spectacular fall, I hope his 'ping' returns very quickly, Hugs Lyn xxx.0

If he's stopped talking it has only been because he's been eating, so I assume there's no real damage done. The cats have been cuddly and Pixel the Korat always gives him lots of kisses anyway, but she did reach up to kiss him instead of him having to bend down today.0 -
Cranky arent cats generous
Glad my little mate is doing ok, scary thing to do!
My DGS really can take or leave cats but when he is asleep on the couch here mine always gets next to him and they both sleep well. He decided tonight he wanted to sleep in my bed not Grandads and we had an hour of giggling and singing before he retired gracefully to grandads room and fell asleep right away.
Stilty sounds as if things are falling into place for you at last. Talking to adults and drinking tea, whatever next :rotfl: Im just glad to still have the tinterweb as I may have gone crazy by now. OH spends much of the day in bed now and I do struggle somedays to keep occupied but as long as I can pop on here Im not too bad.
Have booked a short break ( at a bargain price as the site is no where near full this season). hubby has another MRI in 2 weeks so thought it would be a good idea to get away the week after to Licolnshire while we wait for the results in case we dont get a chance again for a while. Im taking lots of craft stuff so I can sit outside the cottage whilst he no doubt snoozesClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Good to hear about your FIL jem, take care of yourself too xx
glad you have booked a cottage break ginny.... something to look forward to
monnagran... 170!!!! no wonder you were hissing :rotfl:
thinking of the current hot weather and our forthcoming holiday near the beach, I bought one of those sunshelter tent type things from Liddlies. DH won't want to use it but thinking of kids and myself, we are all fair skinned/blue eyes and need to be careful on the beach. Also handy if boys want to get changed as it has a front flap that can come right down. More than likely it will be used as a shelter from the wind... don't think it's waterproof though :rotfl:DH will moan if I tell him I spent £20 so I will pack it discreetly and bring it out triumphantly if the weather is hot and tell him it was a bargain buy.
Just wanted to share latest words of wisdom from kids.
From DS9 who already has a very good head for moneysaving and a keen interest in the business world (we sometimes watch Dragons' Den together).
"what's the point of having money, if you don't know how to use it properly?" . We were not even discussing money so not sure where that came from!
Then not to be left out... on a different but equally wise note, (again unprompted by anything apparent) from DS6
"you should use your skills for only good things and never bad"
and on that note I will bid you all goodnight...
