  • I have a book with POLISH recipes!!!! but I promise not to use it to feed you!!! Seriously I've got a lovely handwritten old book that belonged to He Who Knows Grandma and it's got lots of' how to make' cleaning things in it. I've got a couple of old recipe books with household tips in the back of them from very early in the 20th century, so if you want to play at old time housewifery, I can give you ideas, Lyn xxx.

FUDDLE try Wilkos for the Childrens Multivitamins they have a very affordable range in thier shops, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Mar: I've noticed that if anyone is nasty here, everyone else surrounds the hurt one with lots of love and encouragement and the prickly, critical ones fade away from the picture pretty smartly. This is why I stick to this thread. Life is too short and difficult enough without people adding to the horribleness - if that's a word.

My DD went to 2 universities last week, I took her to one in Liverpool and was surprised how many people were there without parents! In fact she met 2 people she knew!

She had to go to one in Birmingham alone but was fine. Sods law says she didn't find anyone she knew but She found a "nice looking mum and daughter" and latched onto them.

I went to all mine alone. I travelled from Kent to Liverpool alone with no phone, cos we didn't have them then, and I'd never been further than London! Mind there was a very fit lad at Birmingham, sadly though I went there - he didn't!!
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Yep, one thing about the "toughies is that they are rock solid strong ladies :)
MrsL maybe when you get time post one or two of the more straightforward recipes, I think people would like that :)

Mrs LW there are some lovely Polish mums at our school who always make cakes for the school fete, and they go down a treat.
VJ's Mum - yes I lived in Kent too, in the days before mobiles, such a pain having to go through London to get anywhere, but we all managed. The furthest uni I visited was Durham I think, and it took so long it convinced me (when my parents hadn't!) that it probably wasn't a good idea to end up there. I went to Nottingham, which was a 2.5 hour trip up the M1, perfectly doable for the day when my parents visited. Ease of access is something they should consider if they want you to be carting all their stuff for them to and from uni!
I work part-time too, from home, and it has been perfect in terms of not needing childcare. I feel very lucky to have the best of both worlds and I wish more work could be available from home. I saw a study today which found that home workers actually put in more work hours than those in an office and I can believe it. Although I do the school runs etc and play around on here I also answer e-mails from my boss at 10pm if I get them, and on Thursday and Friday which are not my work hours. Flexibility works both ways.

Well, I've finally caught up with you all. :)
Had the shift from Hell last night. :( but now I've had 5 hours sleep and I'm just having a cuppa to wake myself up. :)
I would love to be a stay at home mum- I do have the next best thing and only work part time.
I just wish I had friends near where I live-I have work friends but i have only ever seen one of them socially on a couple of occasions. Since I moved (over 5 years ago) I miss the coffee and a chat with a friend times. :(

Can I have a little gloat, please? I have just finished clearing the Dining Room of Doom. For the last four (or five ...) years it has been a dumping ground for anything we didn't know what to do with, until it had grown into such a mess I didn't know where to start with it. My small family generally come to us for Christmas, and we have been crowding round the small kitchen table, which has been cosy, but not ideal. It's my sister's 70th on Sunday, and a couple of months ago we offered to have a party for her here. It has taken me most of that time to clear the room - car loads to cs, dump, auction, you name it. Filing all the paperwork! Finding nice things I haven't seen for years!! The room now looks lovely, and I bought some bunting on the bay of E, so it also looks very festive. There is a philadelphus bush just outside the window, so the room even smells lovely. All I have to do now is buy and cook the food, stay calm, smile a lot and hope everyone, especially my sister, enjoys themselves. I feel so relieved to have got to this point, there were so many moments when I really didn't think it was possible .... this thread really does help to keep me sane, in so many ways. Thanks to all of you, xx the cake xx

    Morning All,
emo35.gifto those having a difficult time...the AD's are helping me still and with some of the plans I have I should feel great as I have been lately but even I have been feeling a bit down, that usually means something is coming to mess things up. I sense atmospheres. Or is it coincidence?

As Fuddle and AOT have said it looks more like winter out there, a dull cloudy sky and quite bustery, hope that heatwave arrives at the weekend for the concert in the park and bands in the streets the following day especially now that I have invested in a picnic blanket and cool bag.

For anyone wanting ideas and cheap meals using a basic vegetable try the following site...

    www.peas.org

They even send a free recipe book on request too. Mine arrived today.

I read today that the branch of my bank at the bottom of my street is changing to a TSB outlet but as I am registered with Lloyds TSB I will no longer be able to use it and will have to travel in the area if I stay with Lloyds.

As there are more Lloyds branches that may be a better idea, it does mean if I need to pay credit card bills or keep the account topped up to pay direct debits I will have to travel to neighbouring towns up to 7 miles away:mad: There is a website where you can put your town/postcode in and it tells you whether you will be affected.

I mentioned the use of food banks yesterday and how now my town has two and it ties in with the good works Crankey and Monnogran do in their communities...last evening there was a debate on the increased use of FB's and why in Parliament...you know how many MP's attended the debate from all parties?

Twelve, kind of says everything doesn't it. Cynically I suspect many were in the bar or commons restuarant where they get the best of food and drink at subsidised prices and making use of their food allowances.
