OK Folks, let me try and keep up and keep answering
The reason we moved the side bar from the left to the right is that before it was a 'navigation bar' now it is a 'browse bar' with the navigation moved to the top. By moving it to the right it means those on 800x600 get to see the whole forum width whereas before they had to scroll. Also it means you get to the forum more easily
As noted before breadcrumb and font will be improved.
One more thing
Please remember we've worked on this for 18 months, trying to improve it. It's huge job and the team have been up all night so there was as little down time as possible, the site by its nature doesn't have huge resources. So we're all a little tired, stressed and sensitive.
Your suggestions are being read, but we will still be tweaking for a couple of weeks. Though I am trying to take on board all of it. Frankly the fact its all working and running is pretty cool - considering the huge size of the job and a one night turnaround.

we all do really appreciate the hard work that has gone in to this massive job. It is astounding you managed to do it all in one night.
It is to be expected that the regulars are going to niggle but I do feel we will all get used to it in due course0 -
Like the new look and the colours, Hate the right hand bar. Not sure why but its really not nice having the forum text shunted over to the left.0

Dumbstruck over, as I've been testing...
I'd not been 'getting' this whole 800 thing - as I have a Large monitor - but choose to browse the web in a window about 1000 wide (I find most sites look better if they aren't trying to fill a huge screen).
So - open minded to the end (ahem), I shrunk my window to about 800 pixels, and sure enough, it works, you CAN still see all the forum (in fact it cuts the green section off, which is a plus...).
Unfortunately, when you're at the home page, 800 pixels wide means you don't see the entire top menu - most notably the main link for getting To to the forum in the first place. Oops.
This site appears to be made to work best on 1000 wide (which is understandable, there are less 800 wide monitors in use now than there used to be), so altering just the one thing (the forum), to pander to 800ers, when the rest of the site gets cut to pieces for them, seems a little odd to me.
My main conclusion of course though is - if we can cut the green side panel off so easily by shrinking our browser window - doesn't the whole 'Crucial info' etc thing go (if you'll pardon the expression) 'Out Of The Window'?
Move it to the Left... and everyone HAS to see it? There's no way of cutting it off. Perhaps I've just hit the real reason sites prefer a Left column when they need one?0 -
Well done guys - a great job. New site looks great, modern and i'm sure new people will be able to find information much quicker - dab hands might have to hunt a bit in places I suppose.
Numerous mentions about the right hand side of the forum having white space - it does look odd. Do you really need the boxes at the top that are causing that white space?
Also in the "poll result" page, after the dislclaimer at the bottom, there is a white box that is not flush with the page - not really a "bug", but maybe a small design issue that can be ironed out?0 -
I hate the tree where it is - its too awkward to use. I prefered the list and menus on the left hand side as it was easier - its too cluttered now and too squashed. It took me 5 mins to find the tree!
Top bar is good
Tree is not good
Side is not goodNever do things tomorow when you can do them today.0
