Help! Urgent! How do I send a fax to...

Options
Germany from the UK please ?!

This is a serious question...

I have been emailed a document I need to fill in, sign and then fax it back to a company in Dusseldorf, Germany and it has to get to them by noon tomorrow.

I've never even used a fax machine at work before and those few who have, are unsure of which of the two numbers I was given, to use...

i.e.

The company's website (English language version) has:

Fax: +49 (0) 211 XX XX XX XX

However, in a 'pigeon english' email they sent me, they gave me the below number to use:

Fax: +49 211 XX XX XX XX

The +49 is when calling Germany from the UK, but do I type the + symbol also ?! Not sure what the (0) is in the first fax number, as it's not used in the second fax number !!!!??? I don't care how thick I sound asking for help on this, its vital I get a document faxed to them by 12 noon tomorrow.

And if you think that's bad, our department at work has only just been given a PC within the last 12 months :(

Anyway, will someone please reply ASAP !

Thankyou
.

Dial "00 49 211 XX XX XX XX"

00 means it is an International Call

49 is the code for Germany

You omit the leading zero in the local number.

    OK - step by step.

The + symbol stands for 00

The (0) is omitted (just like you do with UK numbers) when calling internationally.

So - put your document (checking which way up your fax machine needs it to be) in the fax machine - dial 00211XXXXXXXX and press start.

I think you need to key in 0049 211 etc etc

When calling internationally it's usual to drop the first 0 in the telephone number. For example if your number was 01234 567890 then calling form abroad it would be 0044 1234 567890.

So, put your document into the fax machine, (usually face down but depends on the make - if you're unsure then send it twice, once face up then once face down.)

Key in your number and press send. Wait and see what happens.

Hope this helps. Good Luck. :D

Doh! Cross posted with the above. :)

No disrespect to Emmylou, but 3 people have now told me the fax no. is:

    00 49 211 XX XX XX XX

Yes 00 49 211 xx xx xx xx is correct.

Think Emmylou accidentally forgot the 49. That's the code for Germany and a vital bit.

It's very easy to muck up international numbers!

    Edited to add:

Don't forget Germany are an hour ahead of us. If it needs to be in Dusseldorf by noon tomorrow, you need to sent it by 11.00 a.m. UK time.

    Oh shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhugar :(

Still no email from them to say they have received it, even though it was faxed on Thursday morning.

Just phoned them in desparation and the German girl (who couldn't really understand me and vice versa) said she had received no fax.

I'm meant to phone them back at 4pm to speak to someone else.....

    Oh b*gger :(
