You could buy a Roku box from currys (£39.99), or a Raspberry Pi and load XBMC onto it (£25 but needs technical knowledge), or an Android USB stick (about £30 upwards)

    There's loads of options

    That Roku Box looks interesting!

I just checked.. it doesn't directly support Youtube - you need to use a 3rd party channel

How about this for £60 - a wifi bluray player with 'smart' functions (e.g. Youtube) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/o/ASIN/B007QR4R86

Personally i'd have a punt on an Android 'stick'

ETA: Oops, ignore this post. Mis-attribution conflict.
Really every reader understood that? how long did that take you to poll? this forum is so strange.

So from "my HD" you understood not only that he meant hard disc but also what type of storage device he had and its connectivity? genius.

Personally I would have though getting a comprehensive list of hardware would be best from the off.

No. I understood/assumed he meant 'disk'. Take that and tangle it in your hubristic ironic petards. I don't know, making a fuss over 'HD' vs 'HDD' and then making such a sillly typo yourself. (Yes, yes I know there is some leeway - a Brit can always maintain 'disc' as a valid spelling - but that was pretty well immediately supplanted by 'disk' and anyone writing today in English should be using 'disk'.)

I am using my laptop already, it's right in front of me and I presently run about a 4m cable to the back of my TV, I also have a usb audio interface connected to my laptop as well for audio purposes. It works very well but I have wires all over the place. If I put the laptop right besides the TV I have no way of controlling what I want to watch without having to get up all the time to change what I wish to watch.

I use a wireless keyboard and mouse with mine, works well for me

Sorry you are confused, and very very strange.
I can't deny either claim and each is valid even devoid of context.

I do apologise - my comments should have been addressed to Inner Zone (post #4) and not you. Then again, they did not mis-spell 'disk' so point was invalid.

Ed Balls are full of strange Ed Balls, it takes Ed Balls to sort the Ed Balls from the Ed Balls.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 yesterday, and I was playing with it whilst watching TV. I clicked on the uTube app and clicked on a video, and my TV flickered and the uTube video appeared on the TV set in perfect clarity. The set is a new LG Smart TV and connected to the home wifi.

I'm still trying to fathom out how it happened - it's either the wifi or Bluetooth.

There are lots of options. I think Roku boxes are great! search on YouTube for roku. There is a basic model for £40 or an HD model with Ethernet for £75, you can sometimes get cheaper on eBay. You can also get american Netflix on it - using unblockus or Unotelly if you are interested in that. You can also get Huluplus but need an american card or some people just pay a website to get them an card and credit to use it. Roku also has lots of private channels which you can add to it. No official YouTube app but there are ways to get YouTube on there using Plex or other apps that act a bit like airplay..I think one is called Twonky Beam.

Good review here if the basic unit which is now £40 at Currys:
