Accident damage to car
Monday 3rd June
The son’s car has suffered minor damage to the off side front wing and bumper. Done by a young female driver backing off the drive opposite. No one suffered any injuries.
We’ve spoken to her and she would like to pay cash rather than use her insurance company so her premium doesn’t go up. She is insured as we paid a small fee to search just in case she wasn’t. We waited a week and offer of the cash to repair the son’s car which is circa £400. She has said she can pay in 6 weeks from the date of the bump.
Do we wait or do we try to pursue the matter with her through the insurance companies?

Six weeks from the bump would be Monday 15th July. You need to make it crystal clear to her that should the money not be paid by that day then you will go through insurance.
Then stick to your word.Pants0 -
Do you honestly think she will cough up the £400? How much is her premium likely to go up if her insurance company was involved and paid out the £400 to your son?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

We are doubtful to be honest
Don't know how much it affects her premium0 -
She is concerned that her premium will go up and that she has to pay the £250 excess on her policy. Now I know her premium will go up but does she have to the £250 excess on her policy? She also says she can’t afford the excess fee at the present time.0

No she would only pay the excess if claiming for damage on her own car. There is no excess on third party claims.0

OK, let's take the kid gloves off, we all know she won't be paying, not a cat in h*lls chance.
OP, call the insurance company today and get it sorted. She messed up and has to be responsible for her actions, not you or your son.Pants0 -

Like I said we are doubtful but prepared to wait until due date.

That is our next move if she doesn't cough up.0 -
You should call her insurance company. Ask to speak to their innocent third party claims dept.
(No need to tell them about this private arrangement)
You do need to tell your own insurer about the incident, though tell them you are not making a claim off them, and you are telling them for information only.0 -
Op if you ever need to search to see if a car is insured use this site, it's free.
