Daughter has wide feet! Only 15 months old

So our DD is only 15 months old and is currently a size 2 G - We went to the shoe shop today, which had nothing in her size.
As she's started walking, we want ot get some shoes to stop her wearing out tights, but we can't find anything.

Is anyone able to recommend a UK company (ideally online) which would help meet these needs?

Thank you!

To be honest I don't believe you should buy shoes for an infants feet, especially a first pair, online, even though you have the size (and both my kids feet were width G when they were small), different shoes fit differently and need to be tried on and checked by a specialist shoe fitter to ensure they fit correctly, even if they are the right size.

I would find out where all your local specialist childrens shoes shops are and take her, if they dont have anything in in her size, can they order some in?

Startrite have a few styles in a 2G.

I'm not recommending them - my last experience with their shoes was when I was a toddler myself - but they might be an option.
  • We went to Brantano where they had one in our size which didn't fit and we were told to order online which is where we are today. Looking online at Clarks appears to be the same problem as no shoes in a suitable size. In which case I shall re-word the qn, it appears that both Clarks and Brantano don't have any shoes at all. Grr

Have you looked at more boyish styles? They tend to be more common in wider fittings.

My three didn't actually get shoes till they started walking outside and iirc they were around a 5/6 when that happened. Before that they wore soft fabric or canvas "pram" shoes, which were fine for inside events where they sort of needed shoes. In the house though they didn't wear socks or tights, bare feet were thought better for newly walking babies and balance. So you could ditch the tights indoors perhaps?

  • It's when she's outside on the grass really, we don't have much of a garden but she loves walking on the grass and the outside area. I'm getting some useful feedback though which is great :)

I had always thought Russell & Bromley were hideously expensive but my boys both had wide feet when they were little and I ventured in. They have a great choice and are no more expensive than Clarks.

Just on the side, my boys are a bit older now and their feet have thinned out :D

I had opposite problem with DD have very narrow feet. Clarks shoes just weren't narrow enough and their solution was to offer an insole as a fitting aid.

I went to an independent retailer who stocked continental brands as well as Startrite and the owner really knew his trade. Before he fitted a child he asked to watch them walk barefooted. A lot of continental shoes are beautifully soft leather and come up either very wide or narrow. I bought a few pairs of gorgeous lace up boots for DD which never rubbed or slipped. When the shop closed down I was stuck with Clarks but DD older then, but I used to ask to see a certain sales person as she was the best fitter and knew her styles and availability. It used to be if you ordered a pair of catalogue shoe in store if you didn't like or they didn't fit you had a full refund.

My daughter was a G till she was nearly 4 then went into a H unfortuantely, making it harder to find nicer shoes.
I buy from C larks only, I look online to buy them in sales or off ebay.
I wouldnt trust her feet with any other brand.

My daughter has always had broad feet. Would never keep socks, slippers, footsie things on as a baby as they dug in. Well, once she had grown from her initial preemie start!

Her first pair were a 2.5H from Clarks, she is now almost 4yrs old and in a 9.5H.

    Gonna get flamed......

Think you should try a "proper" shoe shop and get a second opinion re shoes. I know my Kids had the Cl@rks first shoes which were very soft - I still have them - and they were all wide except my DD who was narrow!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
