02 Profiteering Opportunity?? (xda)

Dear all,
I was wondering if anyone could see a snag in this possible opportunity...
I have a posh, XDA phone (it is the only posh thing I own, but I like posh things...!!) That aside:
I've come to end of contract. O2 have guaranteed me a FREE posh new XDA (which for those who don't know, is basically a mini computer and phone). Of course, they have offered to give me cheaper calls.
1. I negotiate them down to a pitifully low contract rate... £20 per month? (not pitifully low maybe, but a good deal?) TOTAL £240 IN A YEAR
2. As soon as I receive my phone, I unlock it, and sell it as new, for it's buy it new price of about £500!!
3. £500 - £240 = £270 profit
4. (plus, I have already sold my old XDA phone for £105!!)
Of course some of you will say, "but you no longer have a posh phone"
But I do, because I have stupidly bought a posh phone with Vodaphone instead (and am looking to offset my costs with this little trick)
Snags, legalities, help...

sounds good as long as u can sell it for that much. your posh new phone with vodafone, is that contract? or will u put o2 sim into vodafone phone? check that vodafone is not locked.0
-
It won't sell for £500. I'd say £200 max.0
-
You're right, I will go and bury myself. (£500 is a license for someone to shoot me!)
Either way, my last bill (without any calls/texts etc made from it) only cost me £9.94 p/m.
12 x £9.94 = £119.28
Perhaps if I can get a little more off this/upgrade it to (the best) Blackberry (Which IS selling on ebay - new about - for £300) = £180 profit.
But can ANYONE tell me any snags legally??
Can they do me for selling their phone within the contract in anyway? Anybody tell me something??!!!
Thanks0 -
Legally you're just fine. Profit-wise, ... who knows
good luck.

o2 have certain tariffs for normal phones and blackberry tariffs so doubt you would get a top end phone/blackberry with a small tariff:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0

It's possible and legal. The downside is that usually cheap tariff customers get offered phones lower down the pecking order. For example I was offered a free Nokia 6300, which sells new for a little over £100.
To get a free crackberry I would imagine a £30 a month or data tariff would be required.
Why would o2 give away a £300 phone for only £119.28 of revenue?0 -
what happens is there is a tarriff table, all the contracts are on one side, the phones on another, in theory any phone is available on any contract if you are willing to pay to get it. taking out a contract to sell the handset online is riskythings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
I trust BH even if he's from Manchester..

Having sold phones on Ebay, it does work at times, but then you win and someone wants you to send the phone to Nigeria... Oh yes and they don't want to pay by PayPal either....
So you list the phone again and you do sell it but not for quite as much, which all increases the hassle.0 -
I do it all the time. o2 phones are unlocked, so one less job. And ebay, sell it via cheque or cash only, don't do it on 'Buy it Now' as al the dodgy dealers buy it this way and it just causes you hassle.State in the T & C's you'll supply a signed reciept with the IMEI number of the phone.
That way you'll get a genuine buyer.....and keep a copy and then you have details of the phone in case of any comeback off the buyer.0 -
IIRC O2 T&Cs specifically restrict your right to sell the phone (and sim) during the contract period. Whether or not that bothers you is a different matter.Join the Sarcasm Appreciation Society.
