I think out of allowance texts work out at 5p each on a PAYG type arrangement. If all the OP's friends and family can be presueded to use Whatsapp then shouldn't be an issue.0 -
Mobiles.co.uk do the iPhone 4 with 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb of data. It works out at £12.00 after cashback.
I've found cashback is really easy to claim, although you have to follow their very strict procedures. I e-mailed my bill to them and the cheque arrived about 3 weeks later.
In terms of the phone, I have the iPhone 3S and I love it. But I'm a phone/text/check emails occasionally kind of person and not worried about having the latest technology. See the link here for. Phones:
